Here’s a solution...once we go back to the beta...just tone down the nudges from behind causing a puck loss (while chasing/gettin beat) a bit....and bam.
The game will be good again.

    Tripping penalties with beta
I didnt have a problem with it...but trips where they are at now would be cool with me

Everyone had a problem with tripping in beta, even if you managed to stay out of the box you were on a pk or pp most of the game

    I had a problem for about 6 games....until I figured it out.
It was harsh at first...but it made me play more responsible.
    I really liked it.

Adhering to crappy mechanics isn't playing responsible. It's like playing through a glitch almost and the reason why it needed to be tweaked.

Funny. We say the exact same thing about the crappy hitting mechanics and all we hear is some version of "get good."

Mechanics on poke weren't crappy, they were just unforgiving. It was better in 1.00, but poking was still very predictable in beta - you knew if you were going to get a penalty or a successful poke before you poked. It's not even remotely close to the crapshoot of stick lifting and hitting we got with 1.03.

No, this is you being consistent in demanding trash mechanics for the benefit of your apparent inability to play the game in its current version.

It's in the tuner notes and Ben discusses it in the "what's going on" thread. Formerly trips were triggered by a ONE inch overlap stick to leg. You didn't get good at that, you abandoned pokes for running into people for an easy take away.

Poking was harder in beta. If I couldn't play beta mechanics I might be here arguing against the reversion like you.

I, like all good defensemen, use all my tools. In beta I had hit, pokes, stick lifts, and incidental contact. All were reliable when used consistently. Now only incidental contact and pokes are reliable, so they're all I use.

  • The skating needs to be back how it was in Beta:

    1. Poke Checks are fine right now.
    2. Stick lift needs to be tweaked, to many penalties called the way it is right now.
    3. AI goalies are in a good spot now. Reverting them to BETA will result in easy scoring on just about any deke.
    4. Bumping people off the puck needs to be somewhere in the middle of where it was in Beta and now.

    Game will be fixed.

Also we really need to get rid of the speed boost defenders get when catching up to offensive players on breakaways. It's really immersion breaking when you have 5 steps on anyone near you on a breakaway from the red line in only to watch your player struggle to skate and the defensive players catch you with ease. This is in EASHL, not sure it's as bad in other modes or not but it's ridiculous the way it is right now.

Ps: I dig the casual stuff. It’s what I resemble most on the ice these days and that’s pretty cool. I want to play hockey, not play make believe nhl’r.........

It's called NHL (insert year) for a reason..........

That may well be so, but at least 80% of the tripping pokes I see are newbs poking from behind. It is almost a guarantee to hit the skates when trying to poke from behind. Go play drops and it is still that way. People don't want to learn.

Beta or not, this will not change.

You should be able to poke from behind if you have the angle. It happens all the time in real life in form of back checking.

The outrage from some of the bubble curl forwards in here is strong.

I can already hear them yelling into their mics "I PASSED IT, I PRESSED PASS" as they held onto the puck too long and turned it over for the 15th time that period.

    [EASHL comment/response]
A major problem is making the players who play defense "adjust" or have to learn how to play the games new mechanics every year while all the people who play forward can jump in a game at any given time, at any skill level and don't have to endure a learning curve and their only form of negative consequence is from not pushing a single button on the controller (the pass button). Must be nice to be given all the tools to be successful right of the box.

The games made way too easily for forwards. The 1 touch dekes, higher agility and speed while being in possession of the puck, auto animations, the force fields, etc etc etc. The 2 major tools for defensemen don't even work properly and must be perfectly timed or else.

A lot of these complaints stem from personal skill level and the competition they're playing against. There's a huge difference between playing versus drop in players who you can smash and poke easily but once you start playing real competition, then you realize how broken the game truly is. I have played defense in top 20 clubs since NHL12 and I do play the occasional drop in game from time to time so I know.

That's why I have said that this current survey and any future survey should be directed to them leagues. There's all sorts of skill levels there and those players are the most consistent players. If the leagues made their members fill them out, you would get the most accurate feedback. I dont play in league anymore due to my work schedule so I'm not being biased.

Hmm, so let's handicap defenders even more? You forwards already get extra speed and agility with the puck (which defies physics) and if you learned how to properly manage your endurance you wouldnt be having this issue. Defenders have a chance to catch forwards because forwards spam hustle all period long. Why even make this request knowing it's impossible to poke from behind or hit the guy in the back anyways?

I'm starting to get real concerns if these types of requests actually get entertained. All these requests to limit defenders even more is mind boggling. Might as well just have defensemen play with only one skate and no stick right?

And they still have you strapping the pads in for club. Seems a good natural split to me.

That said..with all the changes to penalties etc in the league over the years I’m kinda on a break from the nhl. College is still fun to watch though.
All Comments pertain to 6v6 drop in unless otherwise stated..

It’s actually called EASHL....a totally separate league.
    NHL has plenty of modes.

  • I am not able to play online vs mode, keeps searching for opponents and then failed to find opponents, is there any fix for this?

Players should have lower acceleration so they can't catch people on the back check as easy.

And It should be easy to poke it from somebody from behind when you are right behind them and everyone's moving slow. Right now it's hard to get a guy off the puck because you can't get it off of him with his back turned to you!!!

I see you are another forward trying to handicap defensemen. This makes absolutely no sense. First you say to lower acceleration (you would want top end speed lowered not acceleration as acceleration is what gives you quick first strides) then you say make it easier to poke from behind. Let's take your two ideas and put them together. So if acceleration is lowered to the point where you can't back check or catch the puck carrier, what would be the point of upping the poke from behind then? Like I said before. Might as well just have all defensemen play with one skate and no stick then right? I don't understand with how op forward attributes and builds are that we need to further limit defensemen abilities? It just seems like everyone who plays forward wants to be able to do end to end rushes unscathed and never loss the puck in any situation. The new Ones Mode might be all of your best bets. You never have to pass and if you have the right build, you can puck rag the entire time.
  • Once again it would be very helpful to us if we could get information on the legends in offline modes other than the play now and the other current modes. We want full access to legends where we want to play them in franchise mode. And it makes no sense to say legends have come. Yes it is very much true they have come, however they have not come properly. And I will say that not having legends like Mike Richter and Scott Stevens along with many other legends, and I’ll include Dave Schultz from the 70s flyers is disappointing. And if no information is coming in on exactly how they are coming in then it’s hurts us as fans. This is a great game. And it hurts me to not know what’s going on. If ages are really the issue then you may have to take a look at the teams from MLB the show and NBA 2K, some how they have figured it out and they sell like crazy. I would love to see them available with absolute full access.

I’m not sure about the rest of the fans but personally I believe this is a great game. But is not cool, it’s not funny, it’s not fair and it’s not right to mislead us as fans by saying very vaguely that legends will be available in some modes. OK but what modes? In the IGN interview it wasn’t explained at all properly exactly what modes and how much access we would have. A lot of accountability needs to be taken. Honestly if we were told what modes and what type of access we would have that would have been fine. And I understand as a fan that this type of deal has never been done before so it tells me that there is something like this happening in the future. But the thing is this. It was advertised that we would have access to them.

As an apology I believe that the legends and alumni along with the names that I have mentioned in my many posts should be added as an addition to NHL 20. Just look at the names in my posts and make a list of them. And we should have absolute full 100 percent access to them in offline in all modes, not just the modes you suggested to put them in.

Once again I am hurt. I do not like being mislead. It’s not right, not funny, not cool and not fair to mislead us as fans. If you’re going to tell us there is legends then tell us exactly where we can play them. Not have a post on the website 3 months after launch.

There’s some bit time fixing in that department. And I’m positive you’ll get it right. As I have been telling people to stay positive. But don’t mislead us. Not nice, not fair, not cool, not right.

I strongly suggest you look at this post if you want feed back. As well as looking at my other posts on this forum for my ideas. I think you’ll find them interesting.
  • The is by far a new low for this franchise. And that's coming from a loyal gamer since 94. This is the only franchise I know of that has digressed over time. While other games make their franchise better NHL keeps getting worse and worse. I've never heard of a game having it's tuner rolled back. This game has so many broken features and yet don't get fixed. Really makes you wonder what's going on with this company.

So you're complaining that the game keeps getting "worse and worse" and you're also complaining that they are rolling back some of those "worse and worse" changes. Sounds legit

You're actually wrong. I'm a versus player and HATE puck danglers. That's why I think it should be easier to get the puck from forwards. With bumps, checks, etc

I suggest a slightly lower acceleration because it's far too easy for Dmen to retrieve a puck on a dump and chase (yeah cuz I actually do stuff like that) and it'd be harder to catch up and do stupid stuff like check a guy off the puck from behind on a breakaway.

Stick lifts have to be buffed. Way too many penalties for being side by side or only slightly behind!

I think it's way too hard for. A defensive player to do anything to an offensive player when in close range! I think all defensive tools should be better - just that acceleration should be slightly decreased - if you're burned - you're burned.

[When you're a defenseman and your hits are nerfed so you do the next best thing]

    8VNkBX3.gif

Poking here would be a penalty, so that's ruled out. So would a reaching stick lift. Ruled out. Positioning and hitting is all I have left. I think my positioning is great, and you'd think that my back-skating crossover would give me enough momentum to separate the puck from a guy who isn't skating and is just holding the puck away with a slow speed, off-hand protect. However, attempting to hit here not only does absolutely nothing, but slows me down and doesn't slow the forward down any.

And some of you guys want to keep hits nerfed and slow the speed of the D.
