Leagues and national teams to add in NHL

I’m gonna make a thread on this. If anyone has opinions on league feel free. I feel two priority leagues that need to be added to NHL is the KHL and NCAA. KHL is the second best league in hockey behind NHL and it’s country is one of the biggest hockey powers. NCAA is another priority. Big draft picks these days come from players playing in NCAA (ex. Johnny Gaudreau, Jack Eichel, Brady Tkachuk, Quinn Hughes). National teams from Div 1 that are not in the game should also be included (Hungary, Slovenia, Lithuania, Estonia, Romania, Netherlands, not sure if Poland and Ukraine are in already).

Post if there’s any other leagues and teams that should in the game.

  • i'd love it but it won't happen for thousands of reasons.

1st up is licensing, the KHL is not going to give up on their trademarks for anything less than the NHL gets if they even wanted to be in the game.

the NCAA is out because EA and other's stole the images of the athletes for years and Ed O'Bannon finally made them have to pay up. they decided not to produce the games instead, so no go.

each nation's Hockey Federation owns their license and EA needs deals with each and every one to get them in the game. it's the reason Team USA doesn't have their sweater in the game, only Canada and Finland have a deal as far as i can tell.

and that's just to name a few.....

Well I’ll tell EA to get their horses on getting the licenses cause we want it and we’re the ones that buy the games.

Doesn't work like that bud. Since we don't have the exact contract that the NHL has with EA we don't know how much control the NHL has over what gets placed in the game. I would have to imagine that much like the KHL being unwilling to sign a deal to be a second fiddle league in an NHL game the NHL would exercise what ever content clauses they have to keep the KHL out.

*sigh* Well why doesn't EA call it the KHL in Russia and everyone else it's NHL, kinda like how country's use a national player for their cover, idk. Either that or maybe KHL and NCAA grow up a bit.

Maybe how they get NCAA is they do something similar to how they got the CHL leagues. Or maybe not do NCAA but get the licence for the conferences instead.

Because they have a contract to put out an NHL game not a KHL game. They would be two different games. They Russian play style is different then the North American. On top of that there is geopolitics at play when dealing with the Russian Sports Federation. There are many variables you wouldn't be able to grasp. In laymans terms: You are never going to get the NHL to give up the name rights to the game they have a contract with EA to sell globally under the NHL brand. NHL 14 did have every team in the Finnish SM-Liga get their own covers to sell at their teamshops but it was still branded as NHL 14.

Not to mention other teams outside of Russia (Kazakhstan, Belarus, Latvia, China, Jokerit from Finland.)
