Yeah, this is not the beta.

Nice try EA. In the beta, I could skate. I still can't skate. Not gonna fool me. Please stop making hockey. You've had enough chances. You made a great beta that needed just a few small tweaks and you ruined it for some odd reason. Go away.

Skating is awesome when you’re playing on your regions server.
Servers are the main issue. I get bogged down when playing on a east server.
Not a game issue at all.
    It’s all connection based.

In the beta, skating felt amazing on my east coast connection. West coast still very very good as well. Ever since the game released, my east feels like its west and my west coast matches feel like I'm playing against people in Antarctica. I have great internet and have zero issues with it on any game but this one every year.

Again ...server issue. Beta=limited people on the server...full launch=bogged down servers.

I’d like to remind everyone that, while yes, this isn’t the “pure beta”, the purpose of this experiment is to compare the beta tuning to the latest tuner we’ve had; not to compare the beta to this beta tuner. Please don’t dismiss the feedback of those who didn’t play the beta.
If you see Grammar or Spelling errors. I am starting to experience the long term effects of ten plus concussions.
  • Hah, true. I had reasonable expectations coming in, knowing that it was going to, in the end, be about horse trading and compromise with the end goal being a game that’s both fun and more representative of the sport. It is harder to get those quick feet going without the puck but after switching to a long stick on my LS it’s easier to lead the corner and get the feet going a little better. While there are some issues this is overall a much better experience. I’m kinda staying away from comments like 0-15ft accel could stand a 7-10% boost and crossovers could engage maybe 5% sooner until the end of the test.

It’s like stick lift. I love it and it’s correctly changing how I approach playing the game. But to think I can undo all the muscle training in my hands from the past couple months in a day or two is naive. My biggest fear right now is that when they revert to the dumpster fire in 1.03 it’s going to feel like a 2x4 to the face.

  • Skating speed and acceleration feel fine. Agility is down from beta, but it feels fine to me. Feels more realistic.

Skating is perfect in VS. Just gotta realize EASHL builds aren't designed to be stars, they're designed to be 3rd liners.

    79 overall to be exact.

How though? I get an extra two or three steps on a defender and that guy is always catching up to me. Breakaways are almost nonexistent. Even when I use the hustle feature on a fresh line. I'm not seeing the speed of real hockey players from this tuner.

We have completely different experiences then. I play as a defensive defenseman, and I can't catch ANY forward who gets past me lol. I played probably seven or eight drop-ins now, and every time someone gets behind me I lose ground and never catch up. Maybe the defenseman chasing you is smaller and faster than your guy?

What height, weight, and build do you use?
  • I think it really is down to size/class. I got caught tonight and saw someone power through and maintain the lead. Usually it plays out that I’ve got a guy hot on my tail but can pull something off. Feels as if working pretty well

online versus. It really doesn't matter who it is. It also doesn't matter if you are slightly ahead or parallel with the opponent, there's a weird catchup mechanic or something that prevents breakaways. Everyone hits top speed in just a few seconds. Positioning doesn't make a big difference unless you are like 15 feet past their player when you are 1 on 0 against goalie. Even then, you can see the opponent catch up to you at a faster rate.

There's no way this tuner copies the same speed of skating from the beta. It feels the exact same compared to 1.03. Also the thread EA posted doesn't mention anything about the skating in the notes. The AI goalie, agility and player/stick collisions are what I noticed being different.

I have had clean breakaways and been the victim of clean breakaways in my 4 versus games as well. Idk, man. Does it happen all the time to you? It's only really clean when the D is caught flat footed.

    Agreed.
I even use a 6'7 260lb power forward in club, and the skating is fine.
  • This might not be the actual “beta”, but it’s certainly better than what we have been playing the last few months.
  • Going to have to disagree.

Based on my experience from the games I played last night it felt a whole lot like the beta for the most part.
  • Really need to fix the stick tripping issues...maybe if someone from EA would actually watch a hockey game, maybe they might understand that sticks don't cause trips nearly as much as they think they do.

And they don't if you do it right. If you learned to utilize the mechanic correctly, you wouldn't take so many tripping calls. It's a case of user error.

    Exactly.

People think EA literally believes that the blade of a stick touching a skate causes a trip in real life.

What people need to understand is that the trip on a poke check is there to maintain balance. They don't want people spamming the poke check and introducing penalties was likely the only way stop that without making significant changes to poke check that may or may not have gimped the mechanic altogether.

Why risk gimping a mechanic that works well when you can simply introduce a penalty for abuse.

It may not 'look' real when you guys slip in to instant replay and analyze every polygon of stick/player contact - but in the context of a free and fast-flowing game, EA nailed what they were going for: balance.
