Skip to :33, we need this skill stick back in the current gen games.

Replies

  • I dont think we NEED it.
    .
  • That does look pretty sweet in all honesty. Does anyone actually use the one touch dekes successfuly?

  • @RSall14 I just creamed my pants watching this. we NEED it back. Half the crap they've put in now (between the legs, etc) players just end up losing the puck anyway. @NHLDev
  • i hated the ability to pull the stick directly behind you. a mix between what we have now and the old skill stick would be awesome though.

The moves they have now are too slow and cover very little ground. Skill stick in its current state makes everyone look like they have hands of stone, going from forehand to backhand is extremely slow. Not to mention if you do it too fast it triggers some auto dekes which is another problem in itself.
  • As long as when you hit them while doing that, they end being carried off the ice on a stretcher.
  • OMG l miss NHL14! I would pay $80 today to play it if it had a large enough online community. So much better than this NHL 19 mess.

I took that console off from gaming but dang. It does seem like a ton of cool stuff got left in the cutting room floor between generations. Like most of it. Perplexing because they took an extra year off in between.

    Why
    Why!

All those moves except for that side hop are in the game as it was replaced with a move that was more reliable as a quick lateral move.

We removed the old one hand mechanic where it was just a static deke node and opted for the new one handers that could be done to either side in a more realstic way.

It was a choice to make attributes have a bigger effect on deking both in terms of quickness of hands and ability to pull off the moves.

You should bring back this skill stick because it was great and actually took time to learn and get better at it. This new version is nothing more than a dumbed down version for scrubs to use and have success with because they want everything handed to them.

Fair enough! Have to admit to giving up easily with the one touch..just couldn’t find the flow. I’ll go back again and give it a shot.

Hey, dumb question..is there anyway to do the tutorial as a righty?

  • My biggest hate with this new deking system (well what they have implemented now) is that garbage toe-drag. You should at least have to hold an "initiator" button to do a toe drag. I hate when I'm trying to just use the stick and get sucked into a toe-drag because they had to dumb the game down for scrubs.

It's annoying and definitely needs to be removed. Get rid of the causal friendly one touch dekes and then they can map it back to L1 + roll LS.

If you want to just go left to right or right to left, you cut through the middle in a straight line, not roll under. Rolling under towards your skates from one side to the other is a drag move. It’s ironic to say it’s for noobs when you can’t distinguish the two gestures.

No you can’t. Just jump into practice mode and check out a YouTube tutorial that suits you.

Hold LB down and try the different gestures on your right stick. Different moves from
Different starting right stick locations at the point you first press LB and different moves depending on how you pull the stick over or roll it in different directions.

Think of your right stick as where you want to send the puck and your left stick your body.

No worries and will do. Going to give it a shot over tomorrow mornings coffee.

Soo this is going to take some time lol..pretty much a hot mess when it comes to getting the l1/lb press to register. I’m still pretty white knuckle though.

  • Last gen skill stick was so damn good. The control you had. Now its auto dekes and stone hands. Im sorry but realism should not be more important than control and skill.
  • I found it easier and more fun to use the old skill stick - Could never get the flow of this 1 touch deke. Don't know why you can just let us choose what we want
  • The old skill stick will always trump the new skill stick because it allowed for better movement. Especially in EASHL where going forehand backhand is so much slower
