My biggest hate with this new deking system (well what they have implemented now) is that garbage toe-drag. You should at least have to hold an "initiator" button to do a toe drag. I hate when I'm trying to just use the stick and get sucked into a toe-drag because they had to dumb the game down for scrubs.

If you want to just go left to right or right to left, you cut through the middle in a straight line, not roll under. Rolling under towards your skates from one side to the other is a drag move. It’s ironic to say it’s for noobs when you can’t distinguish the two gestures.

Oh, is Ben getting a little testy because his skill stick is trash? Its ironic that the company's slogan is "EA sports, it's in the game," and yet you take out a bunch of stuff that was already "in the game" and replace it with crappy gimmicks.

I don't need to be told what the difference is. When I'm coming at the goalie or a player with the stick held at the 4/5 o'clock and try and manually drag it the other way, I shouldn't be sucked into a toe-drag because controllers aren't perfect, and sometimes you roll by an accident. I should have to hold a button that initiates the toe-drag like past games.....Oh, but I forgot, you brought in one-touch dekes for the scrubs lololol

There's really no arguing this, Ben. So I'm sure this post will be deleted. You guys dumbed the game down hard when you went to Next Gen. It's why the product is suffering.

Personally I haven’t ever accidentally toe dragged. That said, I don’t like hearing that you are having trouble with it because we would want it to be intuitive for everyone and it is unfortunate to hear you are having a hard time not getting it by accident but it is better to have a different move when you cut through vs roll under as it gives players more contextual options based on what they are asking for instead of both gestures producing the same thing. It actually allows us to have more moves rather than less which was one of your other points.

One touch moves are quick access moves. Someone isn’t more elite because they can press a modifier and flick their right stick. Player skill separation should be more about timing, context and angles relative to what your opponent is doing more than it should be about memorizing a bunch of button combos. If the game could be purely mind controlled, it wouldn’t lower the actual skill gap we are after as it has way less to do with complex inputs and much more to do with what, when and with who.

I took that console off from gaming but dang. It does seem like a ton of cool stuff got left in the cutting room floor between generations. Like most of it. Perplexing because they took an extra year off in between.

    Why
    Why!
    Why!!!

All those moves except for that side hop are in the game as it was replaced with a move that was more reliable as a quick lateral move.

We removed the old one hand mechanic where it was just a static deke node and opted for the new one handers that could be done to either side in a more realstic way.

It was a choice to make attributes have a bigger effect on deking both in terms of quickness of hands and ability to pull off the moves.

Fair enough! Have to admit to giving up easily with the one touch..just couldn’t find the flow. I’ll go back again and give it a shot.

Hey, dumb question..is there anyway to do the tutorial as a righty?
No you can’t. Just jump into practice mode and check out a YouTube tutorial that suits you.

Hold LB down and try the different gestures on your right stick. Different moves from
Different starting right stick locations at the point you first press LB and different moves depending on how you pull the stick over or roll it in different directions.

Think of your right stick as where you want to send the puck and your left stick your body.

No worries and will do. Going to give it a shot over tomorrow mornings coffee.

Not gonna lie...I’m a little salty over this...lazy on EAs part not to give an option of handiness in the tutorials.
  • I would really like option to turn toe drag off. I got kinda large hands for small controller and do the unnecessary move all the time. Nhl14 skill stick is was so much better...
  • I played so much 14, and after 4 years, muscle memory still has me doing the dekes I used back then...Needless to say, I either a) get rocked by a defender or b) lose the puck :(

I still love 14. It's free to play to get my fix. If you all miss it so much..there's plenty of used ones.
