Who’s with me ? Why would they take out this intense level of customization? This gave everyone a huge variety of on how build your player for online team play / club. Removal of these stats has not been for better ! If you agree shoot a comment below so we can get stats back.

  • I’d guess that they went to the class system because it was seen as a good way to achieve balance. Personally, I’d like attributes going so far as to have stick curve, stiffness etc affect shots and stick handling. Loved tinkering with my toon during the mmo’s days and would like to tinker here too. Just doubt they would go for it.

I'm with you. Attribute Customization has to 100% return to the game. All they did with this new system was cater to the scrubs who complained they weren't good at the game because they couldn't "Grind to Legend 3". These are the same people that stop playing 2-3 months after the game comes out now because they just aren't good (attributes or pre-sets). There is one major solution that makes everyone happy and it's been reiterated here by plenty of posters, including myself. Just take out the grind. Return to the glory days where you're given X amount of points for Offensive, Defensive, and Athleticism categories. Build your guy how you'd like. If you want to be a 6'5'' 230 lbs. playmaker, have a ball. If you want to be a 5'7'' 120 lbs. powerforward, go for it.

I really don't see what the big deal is. Custom attributes, pre-set builds.... The weak will be separated from the strong and we will just end up where we are now..... The Hardcores playing year-round.

The problem is this happens and the player base is smaller because of the horrendous decision to go to this new system, which turned off a lot of good players.
  • I'd like to see it, there are gaps in the current class system that I would like to slip into.

The 2 major complaints were more experienced players having more points and easier to balance with classes but I dont really see it. Just give everybody the same points from the start and put caps where you need them to keep balance.

I absolutely loved being able to customize my guy how I wanted. I feel super hindered playing as any of these pre-set builds and they can't seem to even do their specific job all that well either

Do you have examples of the gaps you aren't able to fill right now?
  • i love the current setup...it might work with points to, it could just be the way the game is tuned currently compared to old gen. I see a lot of different player builds, and there's a lot of different ways to play and be effective.

I have a parallel issue with player classes. Such as Defensive D. Why does a Defensive D have to be big, heavy and physical? Why can't I have a smaller, more mobile and less physical Defensive D? These are the types of questions I have for a good portion of the available classes.

This is so true for most preset classes. You can be a defensive d-man in NHL and not huge. Great stick, great defensive awareness and just not a beast in the physical department. Or a bigger guy with a great first pass and bomb but doesn't just hit. PWF that are strong on their skates very fast but not super aggressive. With the current system, we are forced into 10 ish (really about 8, not many take enforcers) builds whereas the NHL could not put all the players in 10 buckets.

Now whether the current system is better for competitive game play or not is another discussion.

Finally I am sure to read at some point in this thread again that having broken 5'2" speedsters is no better. I agree. Old attribute system was flawed. So fix it instead of just ditch it. It would be hard but it can be done.

For esports competetive games you can force builds on players. Why take something away from a community for 10% (if that) of the user base.

the clearest one is sniper being capped at 6ft, when i think of snipers i think of laine, kovy and ovy who are well over 6 ft.

i hope we go back as well, people claim balance is better with these builds but let's look at it a different way,

currently if you are a sniper who relies on speed and carrying the puck to create goals you are in luck but if you are more of a off the puck type of sniper who battles in the slot for position to create goals you are at a disadvantage. It's the same with playmakers, if you are one who lives with speed and carrying the puck you are in luck but if you play a heavy cycle game down low to create passes like joe thornton you are again at a disadvantage.

People will of course say just use a powerforward or a grinder then but both of them waste half their attributes into hitting and pokechecking instead of being able to keep the elite shooting or passing those faster sniper and playmaker builds get to keep. ( the loss in speed should be enough taken away shouldn't it? )

yes we can adjust and change our playstyle but those guys who perfectly fit these builds will have an advantage, and we are limiting the amazingly creative game of hockey to fewer successful styles.

i also type this as a guy who perfectly fits the 5'10 sniper, it is the build for me but that doesn't mean i don't realize certain play styles are being put at a disadvantage in this current system.
  • Yes please. Stop the cookie cutters and gimme my points to use as I please. Good idea.

There was no reason to remove the builds how they were on the old gen system. Why should somebody who buys the game months after release or doesnt play as frequently as I do have the same build as me, attribute points, whatever, as i do? Why should they be rewarded and have an easier go for being not committed and I have to work harder? It should be the other way around. Everyone talks skill gap. How about loyalty gap!

The others in the thread have pretty much nailed it. A hybrid of pwf/snp, dman who is d specialist and not big, when I play center I would like a playmaker who is more durable and better at D than being quick. I guess the size to athletics ratio with the cap'd ht/wt values are at the core of my issues although I'd also like a little more creativity allowed with the point distribution too. I understand the issues this could introduce with everybody trying to jam as much athletics as possible etc. a la NHL09-14ish but I think we've come far enough at this point as a community and you guys as programmers to come up with possible solutions if it was decided that it was a worthwhile pursuit.

    +1
  • I like it the way it is now, the traits are sufficient for customization. The current set-up is great for balance. Maybe a lot of players wanting customization don't remember the old days when everyone was playing as a grinder for the athletics. But I do.

Is it unfortunate that we can't be an Ovechkin like player? Yes. From a balanced perspective though, it wouldn't work. Ovechkin is fast, has a great shot, and great hitting. Only his defensive awareness suffers in the game. It would break balance to have a build like that, because everyone will use it.

In Sixes games now they have a very diverse range of builds in them, there's usually only 2 or at most 3 people using the same build instead of all 6. This is far superior to how the game used to be when you could customize everything because there was a meta that everyone used. There is no meta now, you just have to pick the best build for your position that fits your playstyle.

We can't have builds that are able to do everything, and the builds we have now are adequately able to allow specialization and customization.

they aren't forced to give grinders the best athletics again. 2. snipers and danglers have the best athletics currently but not everyone plays them.

You are just assuming people want to be Ovechkin but when you actually think about it a taller sniper would likely just trade speed for more strength to battle for positioning in the slot. A small sniper doesn't have hitting so why do you just assume a tall one would have to have it?

i'm not so sure i agree, in lghl not only are most centers running the grinder but most defenders are using it as well.

after typing this i think i realized you aren't actually against the idea itself but it's more that you don't think ea is compentent enough to do it properly, you are probably right.

Bigger sniper would have more hitting this year because checking and all athletics are tied directly to size right now. Enf and DD only move slow and hit harder BECAUSE they are required to be bigger. That is kind of where I have the bigger issue, I don't want my size limited by the class, the range should be the same for all of them. As for all the other stuff from the past that was from poor planning and balancing from the start, it could be done better this time around to avoid the same mistakes. I would however choose this system over everybody playing an OP class if there was one.
  • There is no meta now, you just have to pick the best build for your position that fits your playstyle.

Instead of a single meta we have two - David and Goliath. I don't know about you but there isn't a single build that fits my overall playstyle. I have the skill and know how to do everything but I can't do anything with how these builds are.

Every build can only do one single thing relatively well and everything else sucks. We're already allowed to play as a Sniper on D so why shouldn't we be allowed to fine-tune a truly custom build?

These traits make zero sense as well - how does having better core strength hurt my shot for example?
