Not sure what changed but I played 6s tonight and there was less delay. Felt like how it was prior to the latest patch.

Poke check and stick lift was perfect.... Skating great... puck pick-ups working perfectly... my player was intercepting and blocking shots as expected...

Basically it was like playing offline.
The difference is like night and day.

Its obviously something that happens out of your system and it's pretty annoying there's literally nothing you can do to fix it.

Those who don't suffer or have never suffered from it are the blessed ones...

I mean, I can actually see it. As in, there is a frame stutter which may or may not be associated with a latency spike then the client (console side) is juuuuuuust slightly out of sync until an opportunity for a resync (i.e. cut scene or intermission or timeout) but then I'll see it happen again.

    Some games are perfect.

Some games have what I described above (meaning it is "introduced" mid-game).

And rarely I see a game where it is just fat man lag from start to finish, with ping times solid all the way thru.

I believe the last two there are different scenarios altogether.

I've said for years now that I believe who you are playing with and against impact game speed and input response. But the mid-game scenario I see is the one I am most curious about. Wondering if anyone else sees this or if my console could be introducing this condition. Although I must point out that it's not every game so there is some scenario triggering it, multiple factors I have to assume.

Were you playing prime time? I personally think it’s all the time of day! During prime lets call it 5pm est - 12am est the game is chunky spikey and deylayed! Before and after these times it feels great! For me I seem to be having all the trouble during peek server load times!

    Hmmm...

I know this isn't as common anymore, but there are some internet providers that like to throttle your internet download speeds between 5 p.m and roughly 1 a.m. This was common a few years ago for DSL providers.

I would suggest you do a speed test around 2-3 p.m and then do another around 6 p.m.

Would be curious if this is what is happening to you, although it is most likely not applicable to you. Worst case scenario you lose 3 minutes or less of your time.

Thanks @WainGretSki I’ve been through it actually having the isp tech testing on their end while I played a 6s.There was no interruptions on their end! I pay for the best internet they have. Played through prime time all year even with the kids streaming Netflix and since that new server (apex legends releases almost exact same time) it’s been hell for me. I’ve been hardwired my entire gaming life. I clear everything off the wifi before I play now and still having issues.

Sorry Bud. Just throwing ideas around. Sometimes it pays off. I am getting certain that pretty much all ideas we are going to bounce around won't have a solution in there. Really does coincide with the last update they did and I see it as well when I play.
  • Took a break from the game.

Played tonight and my ping started at 30 and slowly rose to 70 before everyone lost connection to the servers.

Go back to whatever we had before this last update please. This new server idea is not working. This is terrible.
  • Servers are down now. Fingers crossed they are fixing this garbage.

Also. Maybe post here or put a message on the game for scheduled maintenance like most other games...

Or you know... "we are aware of a server issue we are working on it"

6s felt terribly sluggish and delayed all day before the servers went out.

Do you play pc game at all? Sometimes servers go down. It happens. They usually post on Twitter which soclair linked in another thread. It's going to be ok.

I have noticed and had to play with this for years even. No difference from P2P and server play, same delay kicking in. Always random times. Game is nice and smooth then at some point fat man lag kicks in. Mostly a couple mins in sometimes, in the 3rd and occasionally get a full smooth game. Always end up a .5 sec behind. The game still looks like it’s in sync but is definitely not. Got some great clips the other night where once the poke animation starts the stick is nowhere close to the player yet he goes diving in the air. Love to post them if I get the time.

Whatever changes they have been making made is so last Saturday was the first since next gen came out that I was able to play a smooth game. Monday night used to be my go to smooth night and it was unplayable.

If you don't mind me asking, what console do you have, is it one of the original releases (console), where are you located and what ISP do you have.

I am just trying to sort out if this mid-game intermittent fat man lag that is being introduced is due to a latency spike along the path, my console or if this is happening to everyone (again - the mid-game introduced intermit / not every game fat man lag) cause.... I didn't use to have this issue over another ISP I had. So, yeah just trying to sort out what the cause is.

A lot of changes have gone on here of late from EA adding servers to me changing ISPs to net neutrality related changes with how ISP's can now handle traffic streams.

I’m in Kelowna and when I was on Shaw I had the worst lag 90 ping and up unless I played after 11 pm. Switched to Telus last month, now I’m between 30-35 ping and always a straight line no matter the time of day. Shaw sucks their problem is old infrastructure under ground. Old cable lines designed for 20 standard def tv channels now forced to try and carry hundreds of high def channels, internet and phone. Switching to Telus 300 fibre optic has worked wonders for my gaming experience.

Bobo I picture your place looking like the scene from the old Heroes series when the guy had strings all over the room leading to different people to locations on the map etc. But your strings are from IP addresses to servers with time and ping tabs on them.

I think the most useful info we could get is probably people doing a trace when things are going well AND grab another one when the fat man gets you. But we would need more than one server ip unless both happen when we KNOW we are on the central server. Doubt EA wants to let that info out though.

Unfortunately smaller towns always get upgraded last. This is just an area problem Shaw spent the majority of their $ over the years upgrading the infrastructure and continues to do so. I think Telus still only has about 30% of of their serviced areas able to offer straight fiber to home. Their tv also runs off the internet. In my area and most others with underground lines the best they can offer is 50 down. Fiber straight to the house is always better but with new technologies The HFC companies will still do GB speeds easily.

My ping is a straight 40 no spikes ever since dedicated servers.

EA, please implement some KPI logging and allow players to simply rate the subjective experience upon exiting or finishing the game.

I am not buying the ”opponent’s connection doesn’t affect you on dedicated server bull”. Either it does or, as I have suspected for a long time, something else is causing the delayed games.

Played 3 GWC matches on 25ms ping, all good (my normal ping to the best available server from south-eastern Finland).

Next I decided to try the ”Playoff Push” compseason. 25ms ping (avg and high), huge input lag. Felt the same as I would be playing someone on US East coast. The delay was completely apparent from the puck drop, my players were not fatigued.

The lag suprised me so much I wondered why I was playing swedish sounding nickname on a weird server. To my suprise network grap read all 25ms.

E: moved suggestion above the rant.
