Tilt

If there is no tilt can someone explain a player with a 99 Gretzky a 97 forsberg 97 Gaborink and Horton with Roy in net haz a bronze backup. Did he run out of gold backup goalies. Or is there tilt.

I'll answer the question first as best I can and then explain why I'm sad questions and comments like this keep coming up on the forum. I'm sorry @TreborMalkin that it's your email that triggers this response from me, it's nothing personal towards you - just the nature of the post:

Answer: It is probably because the goalie has good synergies. Bronze players have 3 synergies, and unless you spend a lot of coins on a special goalie from a master set or special alumni it's hard to find a good gold rare who has all the synergies you may want - but a Bronze one easy, and cheaper.

My thoughts: You could have made this a much better question by adding a few facts, but as it is I'm sorry to say it sounds like just another rant about ice tilt. Simply by saying who the goalie was could have made my answer much more responsive.

The long Answer: is of course we don't know what is the reason for an individuals actions. It my have been his favourite player from his local team. It may be he has a bet with his buddies at the pub and every 5 games swaps his 97 best goalie in the history of the game (my humble opinion but check out The Hockey Guy on YouTube if you think otherwise...) for the worst one in his collection and they compare results every week over a beer.

What was the result of the game by the way?

  • I lost 4-3 on an own goal after Webber shot a one timer that hit the post and stuck to the goal line. I outshot him 43-6. I just played cs qualifier finished 5-4, ranked 1522 my 4 losses were against teams with a bronze backup. The games where a fresh gartner can’t out skate a d that isn’t skating just gliding back. It is what it is I just wish I wasn’t addicted to the game and I wish I wouldn’t have bought another copy.

Every game I play I look at the other team. There are games based off the players the other team has I understand the results.

I played a d3 game against #254 then played a D1 team that was using 2 human players.

There is a point where losing to quality opponents I get but losing because AI sticklifts and pokes is crazy. The puck was on their offensive side of the ice I had a controlled d on the puck carrier on their break I stole the puck and was called for a hook, problem was it wasn’t my controlled player with the hook it was my AI controlled player on my offensive side of the ice.

Maybe it’s just bad luck, maybe i just get lucky to draw the top 1500 every time.

One serious question I do have is the top 250 teams in season 24 get a season 25 collectible they don’t “get” it til tomorrow when the packs come out so are they eligible for the qualifier 1 since they don’t own it yet. And if they play in q1 is it really fair?

Fair for a cup type competition is a moot point - anyone can play anyone in HUT Champs or CS. Q1 is always harder than Q2 because the better players play in that one and get their card, and the worse players play Q2

This game has own rules, one day you can play like a god and other day yours players are like on the drogs... Absolutely diferent game play in day and night,,,, sometime players just comletely ignoring puck. Game balancing is Definitely implemented, call it how you want...have try many teams and players in my team, higher overal do not mater so much, if you are not one of those bad players from top where 90% of them play like rotting in offens, never ending bord game, glitch by glitch, and thay call them by self good players,... They are actually breaking up this game,... Game is call game because pont of that is, have a funn,.. Get away some high overal players, put on roster somebody who you like, feel free silver guy from your favorit team,.. And play hockey,, you will see how your frustration slowly disapear... But do not think, that the back up goalie have a effect on game... Is there myth, that get you easyer oponent, if bronze back up, I do not believe that...
  • I have 89 Andy Moog as my backup goalie. I only play On-line to meet daily objectives, thats when I substitute my backup goalie to Bronze, 58 David Honzik. Yes both of these backup goalies carry the important BU Synergy that my team needs.
However, the real reason I swap these guys is to drop my OVR team rating from 96 to 90, hoping to get a weaker opponent.
As much as I love this game, play it every day and have all the time in the world since I’m retired and almost 70, I’m not improving very fast. Of course I win every game played off-line.
I’m very happy when I lose a game on-line as long as I score 1 goal. Actually last night I got lucky and was promoted to division 8.
Today I’m going to spend the big bucks on a new PS4 controller. I’ve been playing with a bad controller for months, where the left stick keeps freezing the player holding the puck. Seen much advice how to fix the issue, however, nothing working.
Watching some videos and will try to learn how to defend better. Never poked checked, stick lift or hip checked before.

Wow @rgollin60 still gaming in your 60's good on you man. I know you didn't ask for any advice or comment so please feel free to ignore everything else I say, but it's meant in good spirits to help a fellow older NHL-er get the best out of the game.

I picked up NHL19 after years of not playing the franchise seriously - my kids have had NHL17 and 18 and played some and I played some games against them but never really got into it. All the fuss about the NHL19 beta and how it was the best version of the game piqued my interest, and a new work / life schedule meant I could spend more time on the Xbox and less time commuting.

When I started playing NHL19 my HUT strategy was the same as yours - play online only to complete the daily objectives and grind the offline challenges. As my team started to improve with the addition of the free legends so my confidence did, and I ventured online more to try and improve my divisional standing. By Christmas I had made it to Division 8 and was feeling pretty good about myself. My team was rated about the same as yours (I didn't have Moog yet and was rocking a 52 Bronze backup goalie for the synergies).

I think I can say with confidence that for me, overall team rating has had no visible impact on the level of my opponent. My division standing of course pit me at lower rated players more often, but even in Division 8 I could match up to high ranked teams and guys from Division 4 - heady heights indeed at the time.

After climbing to Div 8 I spent more time in online matches.... and crashed back down to Division 10 with a bump. My gold rare players were out skated, missed one timer shots, couldn't defend (yes I know that was me really but much better to blame the game and ice tilt it seems...)

That crash was really the best thing to happen to me though, I learned more about strategy, about defending. I learned what my strengths and weaknesses were and played to former and tried to eliminate the latter. I got a new controller - an Xbox Elite and set up the buttons so they worked best for me - and from that on I have improved.

Enjoy the new controller, make sure your connection to online is wired, not WiFi, and by all means learn to use the poke check but in it's skill stick form - hold down the R1 button and use the right analog to direct the hockey stick. It's much more forgiving than a random push of R1 which brings the refs whistle more often than not.

I'm on Xbox so we won't match up, but I bet you'll be climbing the ranks soon with that new controller - the grind for Division 1 is hard but worth it, especially if you have room for Tim Horton on your defence. Good luck and have fun.
  • jetset95 Thank you for the memo and advice.
BTW the new controller does not fix my left stick issue.
Today I will get my hands on an old version of NHL 17 on disc and see what happens. I downloaded NHL 19 from the PS web site for the 1st time this year. I believe that may be my mistake.
If NHL 17 has no left stck issues, I will post a video when playing NHL 19 for the EA Dev.
Also, I played Madden 15 last night, you guessed it, no issues with left stick.
  • Yep oolzphja7lk4.jpg
    no tilt.
  • I had 2 no goals and multiple posts and multiple missed nets.
  • s0gso9uphp13.jpg

This was the final nice 50% save percentage for 88 luongo.
  • I agree with this post. Not the bronze goalie part, I get that. But there is horrible ice tilt. It comes on so many different ways there is obviously some mechanism to even the game out when two teams of differing overall values play against each other. I don’t notice much in Division games or in HUT champs, but I could post 100+ screen shots like the one the OP posted. I’ve held guys to 2 shots and under a min TOA and lost 2-0 on weak goals.
I just played a game where right after a time out my MSP kucherov with 99 skating got caught on a breakaway by base Kris letang. I also just lost that game because I got called for a penalty shot against even though I was in front of the player I “tripped”.

Something very wrong in this game. Doesn’t seem like there is any point to going for good players or legends because their attributes aren’t true in the game play.

    @BrownIdentity @TreborMalkin

Really? You still think this and continue to post screen shots and expect the rest of the community be convinced. Post the video evidence, the connections speed, the video of the moves you made on the controller, how many times the cat jumped up, blah blah blah, ad nauseam, ad infinitum.

Post the same game twice and show the same thing happening... What? You can't? You mean you're human and stuff happens?

OMG is that why I sometimes lose? I play different players? On different days?

Is that why the Stars beat the Avs last night? It wasn't the same game they played the last two times? Or does American Airlines Arena have hydraulic ice...

EA instead of implementing a policy which means you can't quit out of a horrendous online match with 200 ms ping, how about banning posts which support a flat earth on the back of four elephants riding a giant turtle, but one of the elephants is scratching his foot so the disc is tilted a bit... but only when you lose...sometimes...

I won this game, but I guess your games are 10 shots to 12 shots 6-5 games. There is no reason a 88 goalie stops only 3 of 6 shots for the game. I scored my last 2 goals with less than 2 minutes in the game thank goodness I was able to hold him to 2 shots a period. When’s the last time you played the same player twice. I’ll play anyone with my team you play 1 game with your best rated most synergies squad and then we play again and you use a base team and you tell me which one is easier to beat me. As brown said there is no reason for a base card to outskate a fresh card with 99 speed. I’ve had my thanksgiving malkin lose a face off to base malkin because of the red bar lower skill. It may not be tilt or it may not be anything but my imagination. But there is no consistency with which my team plays, I am not talking just making shots but skating ability and maintaining possession of the puck. Maybe we all face the same thing but it is frustrating to make a pass out to your fastest skater which is what you would do in a real game for them to get run down by a slower skater.

Jet I respect you and your opinions but just because someone says or doesn’t say it exists isn’t going to make me think my team plays different against teams that are rated lower than mine. I wasn’t happy I was matched up against a player ranked in the top 250, but I knew why he beat me 6-0 and held me under 10 shots not from tilt but because he flat whipped me.

TC thanks for your last comment there I appreciate your thoughts and your opinions as much as the next NHL-er, but you hit the nail on the head - what I say may not change your mind but what I prove should have an effect. Posting scores and text about a game don't help convince anyone you were facing anything more than a different opponent at a different time of day.

I've tried to comment on the points you made that I pulled out as the number list above
    1. Any goalie can ship x goals on x shots in HUT, 3 goals in 6 shots is not unusual at all
    2. Played the same player twice in a row in HUT Champs qualification last night actually - have done this 3 times in total in NHL19
    3. You have just identified the key to HUT - stopping you opponent shooting. Block shots, block zone entry, use skill stick and the players to interfere with their puck control
    4. Base Malkin 86 - TG Malkin 88 - FO can be won based on FO rating if all other factors are equal, but timing, and counters are more important. If you are a millisecond slower pulling the stick back base Malkin will win the FO if he times it perfectly.

So based on 1-4 - no ice tilt, sorry.

    "Stop your opponent from shooting."

FYI.. People are looking to play something realistic.

Also, people with average human comprehensive skills and who aren't wearing EA-logoed blinders will recognize the tilt...

"Good defence is the best offence" I'm paraphrasing of course, but you get the point. All goaltenders in NHL 19 are fallible so the best way to avoid them looking foolish is stop your opponent from getting into good shooting positions, and taking the shot away from them. Exactly as @TreborMalkin highlighted in his post. That is about as realistic as you get talking defence in a team based e-sports games like NHL or FIFA.

Since we are talking who and who isn't wearing eyewear, I could argue that you're wearing glasses like the characters in The Matrix so you can't see the false world you inhabit.

It's always Ice Tilt, or someone else's fault, or the fact that you played a team with a lower rating than your own when things go against you. The glasses prevent you from seeing that you're controlling the game, that you're not perfect, that you are connected via an imperfect interface to an imperfect simulation of an imperfect game. From that you are linked via an imperfect connection to another imperfect simulation of an imperfect game, connected via an imperfect interface to a human controller that isn't perfect.

Gosh darn it - you think I'm wearing blinders, when you suggest that none of that can possibly account for the fact that some games you win, some games you lose...

Do your Matrix glasses let you see the elephants and the turtle I wonder?

Personal call outs or passive aggressive insults will always lead to post removal or threads being closed. This dwindled into “EA fanboy-ism” and conspiracy “matrix living” “flat earthers”.

There are other threads on this matter including this mega one https://forums.ea.com/en/nhl/discussion/comment/2032401#Comment_2032401
So if you really want to talk about tilt, use that, but please be constructive and civil.
