Absurd

Prev134
Its almost sickening that EA can feel good about selling these packs? "Hey guys, spend 20 bucks on this pack, but there is only a 27% chance of getting a card you may consider using (85 overall)." So you keep buying packs until you finally get that 1 85+ card... and its something like Kopitar... theres 80 bucks gone for a card that resells for 4k. Packs used to be so much better in previous games and they were cheaper! I hope the pack sales are going down steadily. I shouldn't have to pay 800 dollars just to be able to pick up one single card (like the legends). It used to be fun opening packs, now I just feel ashamed that I spent money on nothing. Nothing but silver players and other crap. Crap that is barely selling for over the quick sell price!

  • I feel you man lol. I spent over 300 or 400 bucks. Best I got was a 88 panarin team of the week. I got my game late and was trying to improve it fast. But it’s a waste of money of to buy the packs. You would think outta 300 bucks you would get atleast one draw dropping card. Nope. All 83-85s. It’s sickening. Literally. Jesus you do draft champions and you can’t even draft a decent team. Very shady with the cards EA is this year.
  • The trick is to not spend money on packs
  • I splurged a couple of weeks ago and spent $25, that got me 2 mini player packs and 1 gold plus, got nothing in the gold plus first mini I got 92 trade deadline Hemsky, second mini I pulled 97 Crosby. Sold Hemsky for 260k, using Crosby

Might as well just play regular online instead of HUT. My point is that this is ultimate team, build a dream team. But this year you literally need yo spend thousands of dollars. Think about it, to just get one of the master cards like Forsberg. You needed to spend at the bare minimum 200 bucks (for 1 97). If you want 1 playoff predictor card, a 90! You need to spend at the minimum 150 bucks (and hope you pull 2 collectible each pack... which never happens).

You should have bought a lottery ticket with that luck. I cant remember the last decent pull I had. I'm thinking really hard, and nothing comes to mind. Maybe I just have the worst luck in the world. I spent more on this game than i would like to admit and it has been zero fun opening packs... even watching YouTubers. Their pulls are so few and far between (and they put a ton of time, money, and all the free packs.) The packs are so overpriced and weak. Unless you are super lucky.

I spent real money on one of the early legend choice packs and got Leetch who's been on my team all year. The rest of my players come from grinding the game and the market place. I now have a 99 overall team that I'm very happy with. If I didn't have Leetch I'd have plenty of left handers to choose from to add to my blue line so in theory I could have not spent a penny after I bought the game...

Been playing this game since October, biggest card I ever pulled from any pack is an 89 Paul Coffey, and that was a gold re-roll. It would be nice if EA upped the coin payout for winning games so I can buy better players in the auction house, 800 900 1000 coins for winning is just pure chump change.

Lol, ive gotten every master card that's been put out and haven't spent a dime. Buy low, sell high there are always deals to be had if you know where to look.
  • Breaking news, ea packs dont net a good return. In other news, water is wet.

If you gamble you dont get to tell the casino that it's unfair.
  • Or you know, you could just play HUT & “unlock” a team instead of trying to buy it.

Since the 97 gaborik was specifically mentioned, I’ll share how I got mine.

I received a 90 trade deadline gaborik in exchange for 2 2k cards in gold rare re-roll set. I did the few challenges and received the 2 free trade collectibles. I played the trade deadline competition seasons and I got 8 tdl collectibles from the free packs I received after. I then bought the remaining 5 collectibles I needed for 150k in the auction house. I then traded all that in for the 97 gaborik, which I then sold for 700k because I didn’t want it. Easy 500k in coins for just playing hut as normal. Or you could spend $200 cuz “I want it and I want it now!!!!”
  • i don't see the lack of good player cards being the problem. that is the lottery aspect of the loot boxes/packs and the rush EA is counting on.

i do thinks there is a big problem with themed packs not returning the themed Collectable. one should be guaranteed in the top 1 or 2 packs of the theme. i can agree the mini could be luck of the draw and not a guarantee but that top pack needs 1 at least. you'd still have to buy a dozen or more packs so it's not like EA would lose here. i'd even argue that it would increase pack sales since more would opt in knowing they can buy the Master Set player with real money and not need to waste time in the auction house and grinding coins.

i like to gamble and i like fantasy leagues so i love HUT but i'm a weekend player and HUT is not friendly to a weekend player. i have the resources and the desire and would love to continue playing and paying for HUT but it's too focused on online play with random matchmaking without the proper infrastructure to handle it.

i'm not sure if the other UTs are better in terms of server quality or if they go P2P like HUT did earlier in the season but i'm looking at moving on from the NHL series. problem is any sport game i want to buy will still be with EA....just like Comcast....and in more ways than one.

i hate rerolls so much....almost as much as the new servers, almost.

i've rerolled 3 decent cards all year, 89 Howie Morenz, 88 ToW Dustin Byfuglien and 86 ToW Brent Burns. this is all year! since drop day! i've scored some other low rated (81-83) Alumni cards but many are the one's that don't upgrade and are more useless than the Loaner cards.

i was buying 1 of the largest packs available every week from the start of the season through the Xmas event and only pulled one decent card, a 1st series EVO Marner. as i said in the other reply i'm not after players in packs, only the collectable.

i also agree with you on the payouts.

Packs are potluck. Got a gold plus and gold with coins yesterday highest card was an 80. Got a lot of healing cards and enough silver logos to finish out my silver logo set. I open that silver pack got 2 gold collectibles and a silver totw player. While the totw player was a higher rated silver it was still a great pull for a silver pack. I have bought a lot of packs and my best pulls have come from gold packs or rerolls. I have got close to 50 playoff packs and have got a total of 2 playoff collectibles. But I did get a playoff LeBlanc out of a gold pack. Makes no sense.

getting 8 collectibles from a competition season takes serious skills in this game (I think you have to be top10-25) so this is irrelevant totally
  • I've opened easily over 50 packs in total, bought one of every level (Gold,Silver, Bronze), bought a few of those trade deadline ones 6 to be exact, bought a couple mini ultimate ones, and the rest I have gotten from completing events, competitive seasons, challenges, trading in Jerseys, Logos, Arenas, re-rolls. I've opened quite a bit of gold and gold plus packs I'd say roughly 20 in total and no joke this is why I can't stand EA and buying anymore packs again, I've NEVER got a player over 84 yet I still can't believe it myself. But that's EA logic for you, keep on buying more sucker.

Soooo, get really lucky in a reroll... and be a top 25 player in the world.... ok bro, makes sense.
  • Just spent 100 bucks... got 5 collectables and an 85 diamond Kuznetsov.......................... at this rate I will get a 1, one, uno, SINGLE toty of the year after $500!!!!! So Stupid!!!! Open a pack for 20 bucks and get 2 silver collectables!!! What is the point!?!?! I am trying so hard to not swear and tell you exactly how I feel about you greedy ×"&#(<....

Casinos are gambling, packs on a video game are not (to an extent they can be) I am paying money in exchange for a "good". I am not paying to possibly win more money. I am paying to improve my team. The point here is that the asset I am purchasing is way too expensive and hard to attain. This is like me saying "hey guys, 10 of you give me 100 dollars. I will give you each an envelope and inside there is something. The something could help you in life, the other you can sell for 5 bucks". And btw only 1 of the 10 envelopes will have something that will help you.

I would love to. Except I am one of the lucky people who get an error when trying to "buy now" on the marketplace. I can only purchase items through bidding. And nobody at EA can fix this... even after I have factory reset my xbox. I used to work the marketplace hard in 18.

Nobody says you have to buy these packs. I'm sorry but i hardly feel bad for anyone who is dropping a couple hundred dollars on packs for a game that's been out 6 months already.

It's amazing how much people complain about this game, but yet continue to drop money into packs. It must be really nice to have all this disposable income to drop on a video game that will be worthless in a few months.

EA got the $60+ dollars I paid for the game. That is all they'll get from me as well. You all complain but yet to continue to put food on their plate.
