College Hockey Teams in a future NHL?

I am currently watching the ND vs Minnesota Semi-Final while writing this, and it's a game I hate to look away from but it's a good cause, because I personally like College Games more than NHL, because they are highly skilled anything can happen games, And after research I am not the only one that believes this, and Many people want College Hockey to be it's own game, but why make a whole new game if EA can get all the rights they could add it, where we could see authentic jerseys, arenas, and rosters, and maybe mascots, and realistic bands. I would like to see this, lets keep this going if we want to see this in a future NHL!

  • No element is feasible. First off, there are probably dozens of people who want a college hockey game. Worldwide, there has to be at least 12!

Of course, how do you get rosters? Are you going to pay the players? You can't use the rosters. It would be an NCAA violation. It can't be done.

How does EA get the rights? They negotiate with the NCAA of course. They afterall used to have football. And with two dozen or so people that want the game, figure a $900,000 fee would need to go on to each of those copies. Perhaps you'd pay $900,060 for the game, but I suspect few others would. Afterall, the NCAA isn't handing over its brand on the cheap.

[/quote] I think your statement is kinda irrelevant, if they had a NCAA football game before so it must not be that hard to get rights, and why would they pay players? they don’t pay NHL players to have them in the game.
  • it’s a privilege to see yourself in a sports video game
  • The NCAA holds all the rights to the teams. EA would have to pay to be able to use the teams and players. If EA thought it would be profitable they would do it. I bet they would lose quite a bit, so why bother.

I’m just bringing up this idea because many people like watching College Hockey more than NHL (including me) and most people want to see a whole different college hockey game, when it could just be put into NHL games

But it won’t be put into the nhl franchise and probably won’t get a stand alone game either. No money to be made= no game made.
  • I’m sure they could make some kind of partnership to make it cheaper
  • Not only should the NCAA not be featured in a game, they should lose their "non-profit" status.
  • You guys also have to think about how many other leagues they added like the ECHL being the most recently added, I’m sure it wasn’t cheap getting those rights, plus I think this game should show where every hockey player comes from (NCAA, OHL, ETC)
  • Go Google "O'Bannon v. NCAA".

You will never see NCAA in a video game and even if you did it certainly wouldn't be EA who makes it.

that was a great case, i recommend reading it.

i do think the NCAA will be back in games very soon. they are losing their argument regarding amature status and revenue from video games will be the 2nd easiest way to get the athletes some pay.
