NHL games vs xbox controller
I have found that since EA moved 'hustle' to be the right direction trigger button, trying to hustle skate and turn, results in my controller direction joystick thing to break.
I'm about 3 controllers in now just due to NHL 19 (I don't really play any other games on my xbox).
Does anyone experience this? I buy the standard xbox 360 controller, but is it worthwhile buying an upgraded controller, and if so, what are some suggestions folks here play with that prove to be more robust/reslilient?

But like most other cool and FUN features, it seems this current dev team won’t quit until they’ve taken out everything that made this series fun from last gen. Looks as if they want to make backwards skating and step over the blue line wristerrrrs the new go to moves for this game.
I think you mean LEFT thumbstick button (L3).
Yes this destroys controllers. On my PS3 I went through like 5 controllers, the L3 stopped clicking on all of them, also destroyed some thumbsticks.
For the new gen controllers I got some aluminum thumbsticks to replace the stock ones, those seem to hold up much better.
I only see the standard xbox1 controllers or the elite controller that is almost 4x the price, so am clear if it's worth it.
These are what I use: https://amazon.com/Gam3Gear-Aluminum-Analog-Thumbstick-Xbox-ONE/dp/B00VWPFC3M/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=xbox+aluminum+thumbstick&qid=1561483290&s=gateway&sr=8-4
They work great. They have a few different colors.
Just make sure your screwdriver set has the proper torx bit.
Swapping the thumbsticks on the Xbox1 controller is pretty easy, much easier than the PS4 controller.
PS4 controllers are cheaper than the One. I have a PS4 and absolutely hate the controllers.
They feel cheap and flimsy and are actually cheap and flimsy.
Agree with Wain here. I have both and the Xbone controllers feel a lot sturdier and have held up better.
But yeah, the L3 use is brutal, no question. Pretty sure it’s led to having drift in my left sticks too.
I have both, both feel equal in quality, prefer the shape and layout of the PS4 controller MUCH better.
Yea my left sticks drifts and or sticks a little at times. Brutal on those controllers.
Also, I hate how close the analog sticks are to each other on the PS controllers. It happens often enough that both my thumbs will touch each other as they slide a bit of the sticks. The Xbox controllers are better set up in that regard.
Exact thought as me. Xbox is better for stick placement, ps4 has a more ergonomic placement for the dpad. Ps4 controller feels completely unnatural for where your thumbs rest, when using the sticks.
I hate every game mechanic from any game that utilizes L3 or R3, and guarantee its sole purpose is to generate controller sales. Can't buy the excuse for more input options, when modifiers can easily be used. (holding a bumper to change what the face buttons do for example).
It's actually the opposite. Symmetrical thumbsticks are more natural, not one stick high up and one down low. I don't know who started the asymmetrical Xbox controller is more ergonomic thing, because it's definitely not. Some people might not like how close the PS4 sticks are together (PS3 it was even closer), but for games where the majority of the time both of your thumbs are using the sticks, it's more natural for them to be symmetrical. I think what people are mistaking for more ergonomic in regards to the Xbox 1 controller is just more space between thumbsticks, which some people prefer.
What I would like to see is each system offer a similar type controller.. PS offer and Xbox style controller, and Xbox offer a PS style controller. I don't know why they haven't, maybe they're proprietary.
For the record I have had both systems since the start of this generation, play the Xbox slightly more, far prefer the PS4 controller.. thumbsticks aside, it just fits my hands/fingers better.
I disagree. It's unnatural for thumbs to have to reach into the middle of the controller. Otherwise, on classic controllers, the dpad would be in the middle of the controller. Ergonomically,Imo, xbox controller is better for the sticks. Ps4 is better for the dpad. Argue all you want, but it's literally 100% subjective, based on the individual.
For the record, i have all current to sorta current systems.
High end gaming pc, Xbox one, ps4, switch, 3dsxl, vita, and still have the classic snes (real one from 1992, not that garbage mini one with built in games). Out of all of them, the xbox one is ergonomically most comfortable. And for the record again, ergonomics is literally just a fancy word for comfort. Symmetrical has zero to do with it.
OP your best bet, if you’re not comfortable replacing the sticks (which doesn’t fix the push down L3 mechanism if that’s broken) is to just buy the optional protection package for a new controller and then you can replace them free of change (well depending on the length of the “warranty”).
Or, if you live in Canada, buy one from Costco... I’ve been told they’ll replace old worn out controllers free of charge.
Costco you say? I'm gonna check that out next time I'm there.
