NHL 20 news doesn't make me as mad as this video:

Video
First, I never played 2k10. I remember I tried it, but I didn't feel like learning new controls and I never liked the feel of 2k games.
That being said: watching this video and seeing all the "little things" that haven't even come close to being implemented in the EA series (ya know, hockey things)... I don't know... I'm kinda mad!... I kinda don't want to play another EA game knowing that this was possible like 10 years ago.
I mean, the penalty killing looked like penalty killing. The board play looked liked board play. There were so many little things that looked like hockey. How many more decades will go by before someone is going to make a game based on the actual sport it's trying to represent instead of focusing on system that seems to want to loot its fanbase with loot boxes. I mean, I'm tired of playing this half baked version of hockey year after year and this friggen video just enraged me.

I kinda wish I hadn't watched that video because it really made me sad for EA NHL 19/20. That footage is a decade old and those details he highlights crush current EA nuances. Is this 2k10 still available/downloadable? Has someone out there updated the rosters SINCE A GAME A DECADE OLD HAS ROSTER SHARE?? If so I'm getting it.

PS: does 2k10 have GM Connected? My buddies will get it too.

I was first who was playing nhl2k10 at the close door 2k. It was my job as gamer journalist.

2k10 is not better than nhl19 gameplay. Trust me there is too complicate controls. The game look good until in your hand usseless.

Do you want the same feel on PK&PP? Try use my FinalGoldenSliders as first.

2k servers are shut off. It is only history, truly sad.

Heh, I remember how I was implemented the penalty box window to the nhl2k10. The 2k developer wrote me email about this. My answer was: "you can do it the same as EA hockey did this window" The same as zamboni race....
  • The little things 2k does is amazing.

  • The gameplay isn’t better but the depth is. Tendencies absolutely need to be implemented in the NHL series.. helps distinguish players rather than having them all play relatively the same. Cup celebration needs to be very similar. It’s basic but the goalie mask creator is something that a lot of fans would appreciate both on and offline. As far as I remember even the faces were more accurate too

I've never seen that kind of perimeter PK play in an EA NHL game. Regardless of the changes we make to our team's strategy in game, EA's base AI is really just a puck magnet - all EA's AI does is take the shortest path to the puck. There is no intelligence in EA's AI.

Why do you think the AI is always stuck behind the net in weird animations when the puck is there??

    I don't know anything about developing A.I., but yeah, I"m sick EA's A.I.
You're probably right - it seems all based on a core logic that would be considered primitive 10 years ago if you compare to 2K10's A.I. We should have a much better game by now, but I guess EA doesn't want its developers to develop, just focus on micro transactions and gimmicks.

Wow the save and shot blocking animations, that Datsyuk sweeping shot, St. Louis shooting from his knees, Cammaleri fighting to keep his balance were all amazing.

Also the way the PP looks, the ref ducking from the puck and the players skating onto the puck for penalty shots. The defensive skill stick looked like it probably worked better too, but I can’t say for sure since I never played the game. I feel like the puck physics were better as well.
  • It really is sad to see, I just watched this video earlier today and had the exact same complaints. The 2k games 10 years ago played more closely to hockey than the “realistic simulation” EA NHL tries to be.

Unfortunately EA doesn’t do it right and it feels the game is more directed towards players who have never laced up skates in their life.

Yes I just ordered it off amazon for $15. I’m so excited to play it I know I’ll have a way better experience than in NHL 19.

I've heard that it doesn't have a great "feel". Yes, it looks soooooo much more like real hockey and has waaaay more depth for franchise, but I think they were a year or two away from getting the game-play to feel good.

I have heard that, but none of the last gen games EA made had exceptional gameplay yet those games were way better than what they put out nowadays. The things I was impressed about 2k10 was that hockey plays like cycling in the offensive zone, drop passes entering the zone etc that doesn’t have any presence in EAs games.

You can cycle in the offensive zone. You can drop passes as well. How does this have no presence in the current game?

I didn’t necessarily mean they have no presence in the game. I meant they aren’t as good at creating goals and chances as some of the other “non hockey plays” a lot of people pull in the offensive zone. Specifically when players just curl in the corner until they can cross crease or snipe it short side on the goalie.

Yea it’s super easy to defend in just standing in one spot blocking both plays but that’s so boring. I want to actually have to worry about being in the right area to defend in the d zone and actually have my defenders shifting around properly in the zone, not just sit and stand in place.

  • NHL 19 is also a chore to play. It feels like work.

I'd be willing to bet that if 2K10 were played online as much as 19 or NHL 10 at the time, people would have found non-hockey ways to play as well. In the end, many who play online are looking for the easiest way to win. No matter the game. You're talking about a 10 year old game that had very few playing it. If 2K were still around, I imagine people would be complaining of the same things. Exploits, glitches, etc. We've had one hockey game for 10 years now. People have mastered the mechanics of it. If you watch the computers play themselves, they'll use real hockey plays. It's the humans that choose to exploit the game and take the easiest route to winning.

The deep of realism is unbeatable 2k king of the world. From 2k7 to 2k10.
    But not hockey basic, why?
Each hockey game has 3 periods, players are up on ice with any ceremony, the zamboni clear the surface 3 times! Not race!
Both companies has lack of this basic presentation. It is annoying if any nba, madden, fifa can do it better.
What is better? The stats, holy numbers, the basic presentation how you can watch in the TV. How easy, right?
It is the big different from any other sport, the ice? Really not, I think.
I wrote about this 10 years back at the gamer's newspaper...the 2k was born the Zamboni race! Why? Why the S.... Race? Who care of this race? Who want it? It can be only animation from EA's nhl1996. Yes 1996 it was last good idea how use pause menu to any interactive! 15 years we are awaiting...

The same with the "battle of heroes from nhl20"
It is not only low budget ?!. It is about the EA's vs. 2k's name. 2k10 has new engine, there is no defense after 10 minutes of play. Yes, 2k10 has the "Real Cup celebration ®" for this price...history is still the same.
2k7-2k8 is still unbeatable if you want to find the best CPU logic&gameplay. Why? Because the basic elements still missing at the EA's hockey. It is not only deep of details.

2k hockey stay as king thanks 10 "basic" things:
    faceoff mechanism
    fights mechanism
    puck physic
    open ceremony
    presentation
    zamboni cleaner /without race
    cup celebration
    highlights
    refs
    5man celebration

EA will never win this fight until this will not create better, do it basic at first (cup celebration roller is basic do you know it?),do it more polish at second, do it a "bring new s...." as 999 :)

If 2k were still running a hockey franchise all of our players would start as 55 overalls and you would have to drop 30 bucks per each position and player type to get them to 85 ovr to skip the first 100 hours of grinding, before any game in any mode you would be forced to watch 30-60 second unskipable commercials, and the servers would be twice as bad as EA's. Those nhl2k glory days are long gone, like the team that worked on them.

You can easily do this in NHL 19 when you're not holding LS all the way, all the time.

100%. Absolutely, no question about it.
