Just get on with the game already... Don't care about the sillyness before or after I just want to play ...

It's faster to dashboard to get to the next game, and it seems the game is only loading the silly pre game animations, as you are still waiting for users for a solid minute or two after ...

People asked for more presentation and they got what they asked for. Only thing really missing from what they asked for is 3 Stars of the Game
• Agreed. Presentation should be reduced by about 50%
• Presentation is good. Just have option for people to turn it off.
• I think a good solution would be to cut it in half for online games to help the experience go by faster. And let offline players watch (or not) at their own leisure.
• Likes:

The in-game stats that appear, like the scorer's face graphic that appears.

Dislikes
Scoreboard at bottom of screen - just doesn't make sense and there was nothing wrong with how it was. The game is played facing upwards.

The robotic noises that appear with the graphics are a bit too much, I would remove them or reduce their sound. I find them off-putting.

The 'GOAL!' graphic that appears quickly becomes very very annoying and it's utterly pointless. Just skip straight to the scorer's face graphic.

Couldn't agree more.

Like, really, the pre-game intro stuff... It's cool, but offline only. I really don't care to see a player doing pushups before the game....

Forcing me to watch the play of the period, again, just time consuming. And it also isn't even precise. Last night our D man steps up at the opponent's blue line, crushes the carrier, and swoops in to deke the pants off the goalie and score. 1-0 for us. Couple minutes later, other team gets an open net one-timer. Who got the play of the period you think? Yup, that easy one-timer..... sigh.

Forcing me to watch highlights after the game and I can't skip out of it..... Seriously? Now it takes longer to get into a game, and longer to get out of a game. Aaaaaand we still have pauses in an on-line game....

I want to get in, play, get out, rinse, repeat. Glad too see gimmicks and dressup is more important than actual gameplay. I feel reassured for the next few years....

The highlights are better, but I make a spin o rama Deke, Deke the pants off buddy, then sauce it passed two players for a tap in, we watch the tap in over and over , not the miraculous pass or nice Deke ... At least get that right please lol ...

• My first impression of the Beta makes me sad. I haven't seen a year where there was so little effort to refresh or bring something new to the presentation of the game. And the thing is, the menus and the functionality were NOT good in '19.

First thing's first, I like that we're switching up the commentators a little bit -- but why this dude alongside Ray Ferraro? There are so many more electric broadcasters out there. And I like Ray Ferraro, but give me someone else. Ray's between the benches most of the time for a reason. It feels like they're shouting at you too often.

And so along with this, you bring this very arcade-style feel and presentation to the actual game. I hate it. This italic, robotic font looks like it belongs in the logo to the original Back to the Future, not a modern-day game. Who's bright idea was it to move the score ticker to the bottom of the screen? "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The font, combined with where it is on screen, does not give this a TV presentation feel, which, if you ask me, is one of the better things about NHL 19 when it comes to this.

A goal is scored. Why are we looking at such a huge mug shut of the goal scorer? It takes up the whole screen. I know it's been a while since we've refreshed the goal celebrations, but we don't need to hide it.

And the most glaring problem? The functionality of the game menus. I commented on this last year. Take any game mode. Why does hitting "A" to signify I'm ready just lead to another prompt to confirm I'm ready, or that I want to start matchmaking? Why are there so many different steps to get from point A to point B, even in game modes like Threes that are designed for the casual user just trying to play an arcade-style game?

It's as if the developers a) never actually play the game from the perspective of the average user and b) also never play any other sports games (NBA 2K and Madden get better when it comes to efficiency in their game menus and presentation every year).

Small tweaks can at least give the perception that there's some good thought and care put into the series.

Sure everyone got “more” presentation, but I don’t really think I feel more immersed nor do I think the “play of the period” feature with a guy dabbing really adds anything immersive to the game.

Sure, it’s a fun little cut-scene for drop-ins but the offline presentation is still mile and miles behind 2k10. I don’t think they had enough time to really nail presentation this year, so I’ll give them a pass for 20, but I’m expecting bigger and better things in the future especially for us offliners.

I totally agree with the menus. How the heck are the menus exactly the same as last year? One of the most complained thing in nhl19 beta was the menus slowness and still nothing was done about them on release. Yet the menu is still super slow and has multiple "are you sure you´re ready?" buttons. Way too many times I find myself wondering how long it takes to find a game, just to realize I wasn´t even searching.

Then there is the player customisation menu.... it is just horrendous. Sub-category after sub-category. Good luck trying to find where the heck the shirt you just got went. How hard is it to make menu fluent and fast with no fancy trancition noises and animations to slow it down? Does there really have to be million different sub-categorys for every clothing item?. I personally rarely even change any clothing or celebration etc, just because it´s such a pain in the **** to do...

Yes people asked for more presentation, but is this what they were asking for? Much more presentation is more than fine for offline modes, especially Be a Pro and/or Franchise. Make it more like its tv counterpart.

Seeing players doing pushups pre-game, or a goalie somehow doing pull-ups from his stick that is hanging in mid-air..... something tells me this is not what people meant.
• Presentation is the thing what we offline players want! More authentic feeling the better game it is, so i guess more presentation is good and cannot be too much. Online gamers should have some own settings for that.

Fortnite and it’s influence on gamers is dictating certain creative decisions on the NHL game.

Think about that.

Not sure where the feedback on stuff like this is coming from. My guess is the “streamer” crowd. Their feedback is less and less about the game itself. It’s more about getting viewers and monetizing their Twitch streams.

Proof: Sleevless Gaming literally tried to pass off video from IGN as him playing the NHL20 beta before everyone else just so his viewership would get a tiny little bump.

Feedback from these guys should be taken with a grain of salt.

Fully agreed. But to sacrifice gameplay and bugfixes to add pregame pushups and the like.... If at least the game was for the most part polished I would get it. As it is, I simply don't get it. Seems like this Fortnite craze has thrown NHL's 5 year plan out the window.

Keep the presentation, **** add so that if one guy from each team presses a button you skip and move on. Like HUT coop was last year.

This community has GOT to start appreciating what we actually get. Be constructive, its alot easier for the devs to relate to.

But it's not fortnite though. Siege was doing cosmetic upgrades well before fortnite. Same as Overwatch and Rocket League, the later being huge in the cosmetic lootbox department. To a lesser extend CoDs gun camos as well.

It's games in general. Especially a mode like World of Chel which has a lot of room for cosmetic changes. None of which is monetized either. This isn't a "be like Fortnite" problem. This is the way games have been trending for a long time. Even before all the so called "clown gear" players regularly would throw on hot pink or lime green stick tape. They did it as a way to stand out from everyone else on the ice.

How does anyone know one thing was sacrificed for the other? Hats, masks, toques? That's 1 item each that the art department redesigns 100 times.

Their main talking points for NHL 20 were:
• More/Better Shot animations- To make the game play more fluid and natural
• More work on Pickups, particularly transition pickups - To make the game more fluid and natural
• Goalie AI- To stop letting up soft rebounds and the same glitch goals

And for the most part they have succeeded in that. It's hard to tell what's truly fixed since we are playing a 2 month old beta, But I have yet to see or hear or talk to anyone who has had any major issues with pickups or the new shooting. AI Goalies aren't perfect. But they're definitely improved. To me it feels like they spent most of the dev cycle improving the core gameplay. Which is what people want. They added very little in terms of new game modes and new mechanics. And since they did that the ol' "They just are selling NHL 19.2" jokes come out to play.

I don't fully agree.

Gameplay feels worse than 19 so far. Yes I know, it's 2 months old, but it still feels worse. Defense and particularly backskating is very far from ideal. Not to mention it has done little to change anything about the L2 abusers.
The overall experience for me is worse as all this presentation is just adding time it takes to complete an EASHL game. All these added cosmetics are borderline useless in 6v6 as it is still team black hoody vs team white hoody.

AI is still severely lacking. Menus are still horrible. Replay cameras are still weird and use questionable angles.

We still cannot stay with the same group of guys after a dropin. 2nd year in a row. Last year I can sort of understand, but not this year.

Coaching strats are 10+ years old, furthermore, AI ignores strats for the most part.

Eliminator mode I will not use.

Be a Pro is incredibly bland. So much so, I wonder who really can enjoy that mode.

Listen, we have different views and want maybe different things. That's fine. But from what I see from the beta so far, and all I play is EASHL, I am very underwhelmed. Yes I know the "beta fix list" is extensive, but I have to take someone's word those fixes are there since I cannot test them. Maybe the full release will be more to my liking, but guess will have to wait because the beta isn't helping sway my decision to buy.
