Yeah, the more recent teams will be easy because of all the players still in the NHL.
The older teams won't be that hard for me because I already created the All Time Greats roster and a lot of those players are also on the All Time Teams rosters.
As I create a team I'll play a game or two against another created team to have some fun and test the team out. For instance: I played the 74-75 Buffalo Sabres against the 73-74 Flyers last night and it was a helluva lot of fun. The Sabres fell behind 0-2 but came back to tie it 2-2 on goals by Gilbert Perreault and Jerry Korab. Bobby Clarke won it for the Flyers on a rebound goal late in the game and the Flyers won 3-2.
This is by far the most fun I've had out of an EA NHL game in the last 10+ years.
No Maurice Richard on the Habs alumni? Not to mention Harvey, Lapointe, Dryden, Vezina, Moore, Lemaire, Gainey? Yet Gomez, Gorges, Quintal are in- I don’t get it. How in the world did you Make this list? All you needed to do was to take the roster from the Habs Centennial team from NHL10...
Sure, if you play alumni games with just the players EA created it won’t be that fun. However, I created all the players you mentioned, and many more, and am able to play all time greats vs all time greats for each franchise and it’s a helluva lot of fun.
So sure, it’s easy to find something to complain about if you’d like. It’s also possible to find the positives and make this a really fun game if you want.

I agree. However the problem for me is we can't create players without helmets and that takes a lot of fun out of it. Maurice Richard with a helmet just isn't Maurice Richard.
If only EA would give us the option to choose no helmet this would be extremely fun. I would create full 50's, 60's and 70's teams. Now I can't be bothered.
While I also have created many, many Alumni players, I have a massive problem with this game in that area specifically.
I didn’t make Bobby Orr, or any other player from the 50’s-80’s who didn’t wear a helmet. Like Sven, I can’t give these CAPs helmets if they didn’t wear them IRL. It just looks super weird to me.
The other issue is the fact that we HAVE to assign a “play by play” name. Because of pretty much the same reason I omitted helmet less Alumni, I also omitted any player whose name isn’t on that list. I personally can’t have Alex Kovalev score a goal and the announcer says whatever name I picked that’s kinda close to “Kovalev”.
I truly hope that EA brings back, that’s right, brings back the ability to not assign a play by play name, as they had had in previous games, but decided to remove the option because of reasons.
Then I’d be able to have Kovalev and not have to cringe when the announcer says some garbage name I was forced to pick. It would just be silent, or if EA did a little extra work, maybe they can make the announcer say the jersey number of the player who scored.
On a side note, you would think that with the two omitting factors I mentioned that my Alumni teams would be lame, but they’re not by any means.
I was still able to create well over 450 players whose names are in the play by play list, and my teams are strong! Could they have been better, sure, but it’s not hindering my enjoyment.

Yeah I get annoyed by the play by play as well, it's just one of those stupid things that doesn't make any sense.
I know there are many added names to play by play this year but 450 players, that's really cool.
Hopefully EA adds to this alumni roster every year from now on, making it better and better, and also add more vintage equipment, jerseys, logos etc over time. Vintage arenas would be amazing as well. And again, please let us remove the helmets so we can create legends that aren't in the game like Bobby Orr, Esposito, Bobby Hull, Maurice Richard etc.
I don’t disagree at all about the no ability to create players without helmets or having to assign a name even if none match. I’d also like to see some more old time equipment like old time goalie masks that I can assign, long leather gloves, more brands of wood sticks, etc.
All that notwithstanding, it’s still possible to create all time teams and have fun.
