Defense getting shredded

Anyone else having this problem? I’m a pretty damn good defenseman and I keep getting obliterated in 20. Seems like players can snipe from anywhere, puck control and balance is ridiculous for forward classes and terrible for defense classes. Goalie doesn’t seem to make any attempt to get over to stop cross creases either..
Feel like goalie and especially defense got short changed

I have to agree..I’m usually able to neutralize the offense pretty well...offense seems pretty OP at the moment.
The lack of bumping people off the puck ...weak poke check...mixed in with the slow passing ...add in the grey sweaters on ponds with big shadows...it can get really frustrating..really quick
Guess they want HUT players in Eashl. I dont know, but I will pass until a patch comes out
He’s right ya know! ^
Yes!!! That’s the GIF right there bro!!! Morgan freeman knows!
Pokechecking seems frustrating though, often times you hear the stick hitting the other stick, but nothing happens. The puck is like glued on the opponent's stick. I think it was a bit more loose in 19? And with hitting you really need to be more careful than last year. Like I said, the increased pace and agility is very demanding for the dmen this year, and gives a skilled (twitch skills) opponent a big edge.
The same applies to the goalie, even more so. I played one game as goalie so far after release, and it seems goalies are more passive than before. What I mean is, they dont' seem to extend a limb as much as before, so you need to position yourself more into the shot than before. Otherwise you get sniped real easy. I gave a couple easy goal by just sitting in the butterfly and watching the puck go in - previously I'd expected an easy save there.
I experimented a little in practise, it seems like you need to use the right stick a bit more than before. Use that movement to get the goalie to kick the puck with their pads etc. Seems like the right stick is a little more responsive this time, and you can move a bit more accurately by little nudges, unlike last year. Might be wrong though, this needs more practice. But at this rate, I won't be playing the goalie much at all. Feels like I am Swiss cheese there right now.
Most defense is done backskating. EA defense is skating forward. So as soon as possible, disable auto-backskating because you're going to get burned and burned a lot. Second, don't wait until the puck holder is right next to you to pivot around. As soon as you can turn your back to him and try to match his speed coming in.
Yes it's stupid, but that's the way EA Defense works.
As for the goalies... I have something I'm working on. Should go up soon I hope. But let's just say I'm extremely unhappy about them.
It feels mostly the same as last year, but I can bump people of the puck with greater success.
I’d imagine it all comes down to the power ups you had at the end of 19. If you don’t have them yet in 20, you’re probably feeling crippled because of how much they actually do for you.
We fixed a few issues where the puck would stop and not continue it's current momentum and we also improved pickups as well as allowed pickups to occur while skating. This has made incidental puck loss from stick on stick less of a jarring experience as players can lose the puck and pick it up again in stride without as much delay. We may want to look at tuning for reaction time to reacquire a puck but it works equally for all skaters. It can actually help defenders and players in their own zone to have responsive pickups as well.
If you make contact with the actual puck, it works the same as last year.
We also improved the consistency of pokecheck speeds so that none of them fell below the speed of the best ones when poking to the front. This was mostly felt last year on loose pucks but it would have impacted all pokes depending on the relative angle to the puck.
I definitely wouldn't suggest turning your back to the offense as others have suggested and would fully suggest being goal side, backskating with a good gap, angling players to the boards and towards their backhand when possible.
If you are complaining about defense in 1s or drop-ins then it's not really even close to the same as AI can only do so much and drop-in isn't exactly organized.
Go watch the best teams play and you will see.

LOL - this looks like the furthest thing from organized hockey I've ever seen.
First off this is impossible.. cannot make a larger PMD or a smaller TWD
Secondly it is way too often that sticks to through pucks and other sticks only for the puck to be not knocked loose or knocked loose and then simultaneously regained. I use a PMD with 90 DA, 95 OA, and 89 puck control and can’t pick up anything. Stick checking attribute should reflect mainly the success of stick lift, as well as penalties caused by stick infractions. It should NOT reflect the success of a physical object moving through another physical object. If I make stick on puck contact with 55 stick checking compared to 99, it should be the same power and effectiveness of knocking the puck loose. Right now there is no window where the offensive player has to wait to regain the puck (even a second), based off their attributes, and anything the dev team says otherwise is a blatant lie. Period. There is no reason why an enforcer should get the puck back immediately when my attributes double his and my player is in a better position body and stick/hand wise to pick up the puck
Speed doesn’t always equal fun. It’s nauseating playing any position other than forward. Even with perfect connection its extremely difficult to have a human response time that fast to make the smart play, add to the fact that the controller is often unresponsive due to slight button delay and you get a recipe for disaster. It’s broke...
