The servers are TERRIBLE
So... I spent $79.95 for a title that doesn’t allow me to play online, the whole point for why I purchased this game. I’m playing in a city called Edmonton EA, I’m not playing in India. I’m playing in EDMONTON. Why is my ping 185 ms?? Every other game it’s much much lower???? Who do I need to contact to file a complaint? This is getting ridiculous

How embarrassing. Why should the average consumer need to worry about port forwarding? LOL do you realize how silly that sounds?
And as a disclaimer, I have opened all ports on my router ... what a sick joke. What happened to spending $80 and buying a game that doesn’t lag? That should be the bare minimum expectation. Good grief
My best ping is 25-30. when everything is ok, but often 45-75, bad :-(
My ping is 180 and I’m in Canada lol
Hockey Ultimate team and EASHL
How many years is this going to take EA to provide a good online experience
Tried that man, I’m extremely adept with networking and the issue lies on EA’s end. Myself and all of my friends who live in Alberta experience game breaking lag. It’s unplayable
Listening to feedback from your customers and responding to issues are 2 different things. Did you try emailing their customer support? I doubt that will help you any but it's about the same as posting on the forum, you'll get the same response.
They will tell you it's on your end no matter what you try to tell them. EA has always been like that. I wonder if it's in and around that area though because the guys I play with in the east have no lag issues at all other than one guy who doesnt turn his VPN off sometimes has an issue. Other than that, none of our crew has anything like you're having at all other than the odd game so I wish I could help more.
I appreciate the response. My wish is that I can enjoy the game and play with no latency because I’m really good at this game and want to pursue it competitively but can’t when I lag so darn hard
That is very confusing, because I’ve switched ISP’s, brought in network specialists to configure my network, and all of my friends say the game is unplayable with the latency.
Maybe your friend isn’t getting these times, but I can guarantee you he lags and it’s out of his control.
High ping times means you are being directed to an EA Server or an Opponent ,if you're playing P2P, that's too far from you (like Eastern Canada or Europe). There used to be a way to verify what server EA would saddle you with in the previous gen games, usually it said what server EA "recommends". To fix it all you had to do was reset your console until the desired server was highlighted.
We've been asking EA to give us the ability to manually override the preferred server for years now, but to no avail.
Run a couple of connection/speed test on your end. First pick a server near you (edmonton obviously) and then pick one that's further away, like Montreal. Compare the results. you should be seeing fairly the same download/upload speeds, but the telltale will be your ping times.
I just tried it on my end and when I use a local server, ping times are 2ms. if I pick Edmonton, my ping jumps to 70ms, which is about right. Up/Down speeds are fairly the same. Nothing you can do about that, that's just how the internet works; the further away you are from something, the longer the time it takes for data packets to travel to and from.
