LTrs still going strong in this game. They're evolving to keep up with EA's weak fixes. LT and using speed wasn't really the issue. It's the lack of penalty to pivoting at said speed and the unrealistic movement of your body moving almost 90 degrees. Makes it difficult to check and since EA's "fix" for pokes, doing that will pick up a penalty. Now it seems like the LTrs are using the animations for quick pivot stutter steps. Speed is maintained. I'll get a video of it when I see it again.

i agree that is the biggest area L2 breaks things. In theory you should be able to do similar things on skates going backwards as forward. But the same physics apply. You can come in forward, spin to backskate then pivot 90 degrees either way faster than you could do just going forward.

its like 2 things are getting mixed together. a skater can absolutely skate forward rotate to backwards and eventually back to forward without losing gliding speed. but that is all in general "vertical". In the middle of this to transition to horizontal movement would require quite a bit of transition that would cause you to lose some momentum, some balance, some puck control for sure and it wouldn't be 90 degrees horizontal change but closer to a 45 degree in the general direction of the original momentum.

world class skaters can do this kind of stuff and even make it look smooth but looks can be deceiving.

i will say this, 75% of the power of this move is that players are too aggressive defensively in areas they shouldn't be. If you give them a little space it nullifies most of their power. its another tool that allows offense to posses the puck which gets frustrating. but it all comes back to EA's terrible stick play. Every time a real hockey player gets within 3 feet of a puck carrier he will relentlessly harass with his stick making it nearly impossible for the carrier to do anything other than get rid of it. In real life that aggressive stick work leads to a penalty 1 out of a million times that happens. Probably less than one penalty a game. in this game, if you play that way its about 1 out of 4 against good players.

so i'm all for little more nerfing to L2 but only while transitioning with the puck in extreme ways. but the real fix is the same its been for years now. stick play.
  • @EA Devs

Since the last update the release of the passes is not instant and feels delayed and awkward.
  • Back skating is what you guys fixed ???? HAHA so many problems with this game and the back skating is the one.

How about fixing the below list of issues

1 Tie up on the face offs, you get locked in and can't defend or change players
2 The high slot shot that goes in every-time
    3 passing
4 handicap system, including the CR point system & ranking System. ( win vs a higher ranked player get 7/8 CR lose vs a lower ranked player down 9/10/11 CR and it take 5/6 games to get back. beat a lower ranked player get 3/4 CR. 3's and 6's are much worst.
5 Opening ice hitting and pushing, the 1on1 dekes was installed to help combat this but the player still get a part of your players body or can go rite into the push.
    6 SPAMMING of all kinds.
7 speed of defenders ( tons of video when Defenders skated down some of the faster players in the game) this doesn't even make since.
8 One hand tuck, poke checking and left sticking. <---------------- ( its all a joke)
9 clapper from 64 feet out with zero screens blow by goalie. ( this happens about 5/10 a year in the NHL)
10 speed of player when doing a action, rather its lifting a stick or poke checking. speed should be curbed by the acting.

Last one, NHL 94 control and hybrid controls should be removed . holding down a button for checking isn't a skill. this isn't NHL94 .. EA should get the game right and stop **** in the face of the players and telling them its raining. you guys have a full year to make a NHL that plays and feels like the NHL we all watch. but you just copy and paste NHL15 over and over with updates to only nurf its all in the 1st two weeks.

60 Dollars for this game isn't worst it. plus i believe its free this month on Xbox game pass.
  • This game needs serious tuner
  • Their is still issues. When simming 2 periods in BeAGM then playing the 3rd, Announcers still say its the first PP of the game, then immediately say what the team has done in the simmed periods.
Players get listed as their first career goal, then shows they've scored x goals in the season. Other graphics get mixed up, goalie records, etc.
  • Another day and nothing fixed to this horrendous game
  • Well almost the New Year and still not a word of a tuner
  • They are "comfortable" where the game is at, I'm sure.

I guess their happy with that big two star rating ...

"The game is in a good place gameplay wise" I believe is the term they're using.

    > Disappointed with nothing about goalies. Hugging that right post and pushing down on right stick makes him zoom out. Don't see that addressed. Human Goalie still is terrible at covering pucks in front of them resulting in goals.

Close range, short-side shots are actually low quality scoring chances in the NHL, which result in goals more than I've ever seen than in this year's version of the game. It makes sim defensive positioning absolutely useless, as a defender's job is to force the puck carrier into taking short-side shots, as opposed to allowing the cross-ice pass for one timer's against. EA went full individual offense with NHL 20...great for people who still live at home with their parents (gauging their life accomplishments based on their success in a reward-less fake hockey game), but not for those who live in the real world.

EA needs to decide on which player base they want to cater to. Considering the growing participation trophy mentality in the world, I'd have to say EA is going to maintain their individual success gaming approach as a means to satisfy their stock holders. I won't even begin to discuss how horribly goalies handle loose pucks in the crease, but I could actually live with that if the above wasn't an issue.

In any event, I'm just glad I waited for the price of '20 to drop to $23.99 before I bought it, which I'm now doing every year. Sure, I'll miss four months of league gaming because of it, but that just means I'll have more quality ATV riding time (along with the extra gas money), as opposed to throwing my controller across the room knowing I got robbed out of $70. :P

I'm with ya Joy. I used to be a pre-order, buy it on the first day guy for the last 20+yrs. Never again. I'll wait as well for it to drop in price. Not paying 80$ for Fortnite on ice. If i buy it.........at all.

    "Fortnite On Ice"...good one!

I refer to it as "Matrix" hockey, where some rules can be bent, while others can be broken. :)
  • For the love of God can you just fix the goalies not being able to go cover the puck ,with all the Lting ,with the ballerina Mary's the protect the puck bubble nothing irritates me more than the goalies not covering the puck ....there is no bigger threat than the puck sitting right in front of the net ...the game needs a tuner it's not in a good place place
  • Can we please get a Spittin’ Chiclets featured squad battle and maybe a Spittin’ Chiclets event? You already have Paul Bissonnette in your advertising campaign, I’d rather hear his play by play than Snoop Doggs. I just think you’re missing out on an opportunity, because I can almost guarantee an increase in purchasing if you offered Spittin’ Chiclets cards. Players could be former and reoccurring guests of the podcast with a “Chiclets bump” to their stats and synergies. Pink Whitney jerseys would probably be popular, RA as an available coach with 3 synergies, etc. I have already tweeted the EA NHL 20 account about this, and figured that maybe someone would use this idea.
  • Dear EA, what about new alternate jerseys for NHL? Boston Bruins for example?

Agree with fix the pass interception.

You can use a fully charged pass and a defender 5 feet from the passer will intercept it cleanly, puck magnetized to his stick, no bobble, no deflection, no redirection, just time and time again it sticks cleanly to their stick, every single time.

Only longer weaker passes should get picked off clean, hard passes or when defender is close to the passer those should result in deflected pucks, redirects, or bobbles before they are cleanly possessed.

There needs to be something programmed into the game calculating pass velocity and how close to passer defender is to determine likelihood of a clean intercepted pass, these should result in bobbles, deflections, and redirects 90% of the time.

  • I've mentioned this before, but I believe pass interceptions are tied to pass receptions. Which is probably the reason it hasn't changed or been worked on. Zooming a pass up the ice for a clean grab by your teammate is the same as zooming a pass to someone on the other team. Making it more deflection and not clean intercept would screw up pass receptions to your teammates as well.

My exact thoughts as well. I see no other logical explanation and it probably explains how it is very complicated to fix and why we haven't seen a fix yet.

It's also tied to passing power. Ever wonder why a charged pass comes off weak? It's because they tied it to the animation of the receiving player in relation to how far they are from you. The game auto adjusts passing power just so the receiving player gets a "good" animation. It's a terrible decision and yet again puts in another automation we don't need. If people don't know when to zip a pass or one touch, let them learn through trial and error, don't hold their hand.
