This Game Desperately Needs Lobbies Back

Replies

  • Back to the Legend 3 grind...

Last gen, when you finally reached L3, you have 2500 points to edit your attributes for offense, defense, and athleticism.
Instead of grinding for that, have everyone start at 2500 points, and make the grind for the +3 +5 +7 boosts, so there's still motivation to play.

Also, bring back the stick/skate options to further tweak your player. The more options we have the BETTER!

I don't agree with the +3 5 and 7, but I absolutely agree with the skate blade/flex/stick curve. That needs to come back.

Instead of +3 cards, maybe have the option for a 4th and maybe even a 5th perk to add on?

I'm open to all sorts of ideas, anything is better than what we have now!

    Agreed.

I would love to see the stick and skate customization again. I definitely think the EASHL perks need a rework. Both those options are reasonable.

EA Aljo. Good point on the ole grinding to 350, but it was fun. Like u said, give a reason to play and people will play. Maybe tweak it a bit somehow. Theres a few guys on here with giod suggestions, filter through them and who knows?

One last thing I'd mention for drop ins, couldn't we have the option to play indoors as well as outdoors?

On a final personal note to you, i would like to apologize for a post a while back directed at you. It was poor judgement on my part. I guess we'd all just like a great hockey game to play and connect with others.

I prefer not having to grind out 350 games, but I for sure understand how that can give you more motivation to play.

It would be great to have the option to play indoors and outdoors. Maybe something like map selection that some games have.

All good, man. I definitely get the passion for this game. There are times I've rubbed people the wrong way unintentionally myself.

But as Hoodhoppers suggested, maybe if you don't grind you still get like maybe 85% of all available attributes and get the other 15% through grinding.

Or maybe all attributes are available, but through grinding you can get maybe a few special attributes that are not available without a grind.

Anyways, something along the lines he is suggesting would be a happy medium I would think. Makes sense, isn't game breaking and you wouldn't be severely handicapped if you didn't put the grind in.

Map selection is an absolute must imo.

To be fair, I think every one of us has been guilty of rubbing people the wrong way at one point or another. Even I may be guilty of having done it like maaaaaaybe once or twice

He posted some great ideas. I love to see the constructive input on ways to improve WoC. I know the dev team reads this feedback as well so it's always possible something could change because of it down the road.

Yeah, man. It happens. Text can be a tough medium to accurately translate your thoughts through. It would be good if we all took a step back and tried to look at things from different angles, maybe confirm what the OP's intent was as well. At the end of the day, we're all here because of a shared love for this game and the sport. Even if you're not happy with the current state of the game, you wouldn't be here if you didn't care about its future.

  • "If there are concerns of a lower population for this mode at the moment, instead of players queuing up for matchmaking you now have players out of matchmaking within a chat room/lobby not playing the game, thus potentially extending the wait times and limiting the matchmaking pool."

I think you have this backwards, the reason that people have had to resort to discord, reddit, etc, etc to try to find game is because there ISN'T a lobby system in the game. The drop in mechanism to find a non club game is a dumpster fire. I guarantee if the game had the old OTP lobby rooms that would be the main place people would go to find games.

    EXACTLY!!
  • Not sure I feel about the grind to get to Legend 3.. On one hand it was very motivating and gave you something to play for(way better than playing for bags with clothing), on the other hand it sucks for new people starting off at 56 overall and having to play against players with way higher attributes.

That's why I proposed starting off with the guys we have now and then grinding to get to customization. You don't start off at a disadvantage, you just haven't gained the ability to customize past these presets yet.

aren't you describing what we already have?

We don't have customization really though. We have traits that alter a few stats but you still can't make a whole bunch of builds.
  • Not to mention that 1's and 3's really diluted the online 6's crowds. Wasn't that long ago that this time of year would still be seeing over 1000 players online. Once 3's was introduced, those numbers started dropping exponentially to the point EA removed the player counter so we couldn't see how bad it was anymore. 6's needs a huge overall...especially drop in, the red headed step child of EA NHL for some reason.

Every year, it gets worse and worse...first you diluted us with 3's, then you sent us to an outdoor rink and removed all options for teams/stadiums. Then you forced us into other outdoor rinks with shadows so bad you had to remove some of them from the rotation. I won't even get into the matchmaking system you broke so bad in last years version that you literally gave up trying to fix.

Ya'll need to take a good hard look at what you're doing to your player base.
  • If lobbies come back it should have a similar star and hockey club tier system that plays a role in who we can challenge within the realm of our skill level.
    Madden fan since 93.

As much as I like that idea, how would you implement it without dividing the community?

Please God, divide the community up.

Today solo online eashl 6s players are forced into a single mode, drop in. Today that mode is a dumpster fire that almost every decent skilled, semi intelligent human being avoids like the plague. Unless they can get 6 friends on that feel like seal clubbing. And the main reason they avoid it? Trolls and the fact that a good portion of the player base are complete subhuman morons.

Breaking up eashl dropins into tiers could possibly eliminate trolls. Most trolls are horrible and have sub 300 cr. Even if you are a "legit" player if you are sub 300 you basically are so bad you might as well be a troll. Group those people together. They won't care, none of them care about winning or losing or how they play the game. If they did all it would take is working a little bit to improve their game and they would start winning and crawl out if the basement "beginner"tier in a matter of days.

Obviously the cr system needs major improvements to make this tier system more accurate but it doesn't mean you couldn't start implementing this right away.
  • Man I cannot find a damn 6s game tonight to save my life. :(

Yea I think having "tiers" in dropins could be a very good idea. If you play enough games (like just 5 or 6) you can easily lose 125CR in a single night because your teammates are just that horrible.

    Good suggestion.

As long as it's not based off wins/losses like it is now. Should have WAY more emphasis on position and stats.

Oh absolutely. But for now I would accept as is because it couldn't be worse than what we have now.

Ding Ding Ding....Tell him what he's won Johnny
  • It's called Competitive Rating for a reason - wins/losses should play a large role but I agree there should definitely be other factors.

Skill ratings in games like Battlefield are near worthless/pointless because there are just so many misleading factors to consider, but it's fairly cut and dry when it comes to hockey imo.

Yes, ragging/lag/dc/# of players and the like can affect stats like ToA, faceoffs, difficulty etc. but I'd like to think we can all come up with a designated "weight" for each category
