Servers are bad tonight

Prev1
EASHL servers keep crashing mid to late game. Happened 5x in a 2 hour span between 930pm est to 1130pm est. Also, keep getting network error messages upon starting the game and entering the world of chel.

They've been like this for 2 weeks now. Before I get a response from EA telling me to troubleshoot, people living in different parts of the world and with different ISP's are having connection issues.
  • Was in the morning for me but during the day I never felt so amazing gameplay..

Servers in general, whether they be in game servers, console servers or anything else that uses a server really, are going to be spotty with the influx of traffic due to people self isolating. Please try to be patient if you are experiencing issues and myself or a CM will do our best to post any EA specific outages here to let people know.

while I agree with the sentiment of this post. In this day and age resource demand should dynamically be addressed almost immediately. we are no longer in a time where increased demand should have any real impact.

that being said, while i've experienced the issues myself its not that big of a deal in and of itself. of course you combine it with the general feel most NHL players have on a nightly basis and its just one more thing ruining our experience.

for me it was another night where almost every game of drop in I didn't have a single team mate that could even pass straight (almost every single team mate under 500 CR for 3 straight days). combine that with trolls and anti griefing measures that fail to kick a single person (other than myself because I was AFK after a penalty for 10 secs). 2 of the 3 games I was able to win didn't count thanks to this broken system. I'm sure I could rant on but I won't.

so... getting booted from a game for bad servers was just another drop in the bucket of bad experiences I can blame on EA.

You do realize there's a pandemic going on, yes? You do realize there's way more people online due to quarantine and self isolating and what not, yes? And finally, you do understand that the isp infrastructure is over saturated, and that will effect games, even with great servers, yes?

No need to trouble shoot. It's pretty darn obvious.

The whole world is home streaming movies and downloading games right now fellas, things are going to get wonky.
  • What, because of a pandemic EA all of a sudden sold 7 million copies of NHL? The numbers are the same when you connect, which is, rarely over 15k users.

I could maybe agree that it's the ISP's that are overloaded, but needless to say, there is an issue on EA's end right off the bat when the game tells you it can't connect to the servers, yet online you go and play.

That many new sales, yeah not likely, but given that the vast majority of those who already own the game are home and have a lot of time to play, its likely more people are playing at any given time than in the past.

Like I said, I haven't seen any numbers that are much higher than 15k users on the PS4 side. Have you seen higher numbers? Maybe I just haven't seen them

And the servers to behave this way because all 15k people are playing.....come on, what is there 1 server...period? Lol

definitely not. they more than likely use AWS. And if done right the resource capacity scales dynamically based on demand.

last night was the first night I didn't have any episodes. to be clear every time I have this issue its the same thing. Ping doesn't really change but packet loss sky rockets to 80%. Every single time. And each time every other person on my team experiences exact same thing.

Increase in demand like this will not cause this kind of symptom. again didn't happen last night, lets hope it was something weird happening while they adjust some things.

If the whole country were to go for a drive at the same time there would be some traffic problems that might effect your commute. This isn't rocket science.

Exactly, EA servers are just trash. I haven't had problems with COD Warzone, GTA, RDR2 , SFV, and MHW to list a few. I expect connection issues given what's going on in the world but it's only NHL that's giving me problems.
  • They should put out a 'pack' in store, were we could donate some $$ to new servers around the world. I would most deff share some for that reason. Alot of the issues we all experiencing comes down to that problem.

That's a great analogy I'm going to have to use in the future.

Verizon reported a 75% increase in video game usage during peak hours since this started. (Source)

1st parties such as Xbox and PlayStation are recognizing this trend and we are also working to improve everyone's experience with EA games. A lot of people are jumping back online into games.

I played COD War Zone over the weekend and experienced lag myself in that game, but in NHL 20 I only had a few games out of hours of playing that had some speed up lag. I noticed it more in 1's than anything. Didn't notice much in 6's and 3's. We have all different types of hardware, ISPs, locations in the world where we play from, so results for everyone could slightly vary.

I always recommend power cycling your console and network if you start to immediately notice lag within a few games. A quick refresh with your network and console should improve connection while we work to make efforts on our side to reduce lag as much as possible for you all.

That's exactly why I made the troubleshooting comment lol.

Just to add to this, xbox live has had issues at times these past couple weeks too. People not showing up online, only seeing partial lists of online friends, problems joining parties etc.

Given the increase in traffic games have been pretty stable for me but there have been trouble times for our group, usually by region. Such as east coasters struggle for an hour connection wise etc. while the midwestern and southern guys are fine.
