No news at EA play

I was hoping for a least an announcement for NHL 21. But nothing. Just a short mention of Madden and FIFA. Is there any news on NHL 21?

It made sense the last time since the jump from generation to generation was much smaller. 360 isn’t that much worse off than XB1. It’s not even close comparing XB1 to Series X.
Many more people are going to get one of the new consoles when they come out than the last time. Other than myself since NHL is pretty much all I play.. this is a bad decision
I don't think NHL or any of the sports titles are having cross-play probably so they can double dip.
I do think NHL will share the servers of PS4+PS5 together and XB ecoysystem together.
I am also guessing there won't be a next gen version, which will pretty much kill off the series. I know I won't be buying it if it isn't on the XSX.
Expect a carbon copy of NHL20. It will be NHL15 all over again, and I am not certain that the franchise ever fully recovered from how terribly poor that launch was handled.
Would be nice if @EADev could at least confirm if the game is going to be on next gen. People are losing their minds right now and if it’s not, it needs to be announced sooner rather than later so people can blow this steam off
The fact someone they literally featured in Squad Battles is trashing him lol
Hyped!
That's not how EA works. There will be complete silence until the marketing team does its thing.
Thats not how it works. It will be playable on Series X. It's like the Xbox One X. It just likely wont have any optimizations or features for the Series X.
My 2 cents.
1) I'd be surprised if the double-dipping numbers are significant enough to make a business decision like that on. Most people either have one or the other.
2) Maybe not THIS year, but I do think CrossPlay is coming. Switch and CrossPlay were basically the undercurrents of the whole presentation last night.
3) With so many game modes fracturing the community I think that they would have to be looking at CrossPlay as a way to keep the franchise going.
If true, it might just mean they're there making sure the PS4 version works on the PS5? And/or that they're really working on the 22 version?
Anyways, I got a feeling NHL21 will be a mere roster update, maybe some 'fun' game mode to present as a new thing. Given the yearly cycle of game production, I really don't expect anything more.
If crossplay wasn't announced at the event for FIFA or Madden then I can't see it coming to NHL. While it would make the community bigger it just doesn't seem like it would happen before the giants.
I doubt they said they are working on next-gen stuff. That would be something marketing wouldn't allow them to say.
What have you heard that would make it feel very exciting? I remember just last year a developer on the game was interviewed and mentioned they have no desire to build a new game from ground up. We are likely just going to see some graphical improvements and same gameplay we've seen this gen. As excited as I am for new gen, I feel EA sports games are just going to feel more dated than they did before.
I am not saying you are wrong, but did you watch the presentation? The FIFA/Madden announce was total fluff, they literally announced nothing about the features of either game. Also I agree they would likely get it first - and I even agree it's unlikely to be this year - but my statement still stands, it seems crossplay is a direction EA is going. I literally said "Maybe not THIS year, but I do think CrossPlay is coming."
