Is CHEL only available as pond hockey?

I played a CHEL game a couple weeks ago (it's awful) and it was just drop-in pond hockey.

Attribute system is nowhere near what it was 10 years ago. That's a big downer, but the thing that made me not want to play another game is the aesthetics.

I simply can't stand looking at the outdoor venue and people wearing sweatpants and a bunch of other pointless crap that takes the enjoyment out of the game.

Is there an option to play a regular game of EASHL drop-in with NHL uniforms and in NHL arenas? Or is it some kind of **** unlockable thing?

  • You have to play clubs. Drop in are “casual”

Also, you have to love aviation. Lots of shots of a helicopter . Ya know, hockey stuff, lol.
  • They eviscerated drop-in to the point that yeah, it's a big joke. Believe it or not, it's better than it was at release. We pay more today for less in the game every year.
  • What was wrong with drops in an actual NHL arena?

    Nothing.

    So let's take it away!

The helicopter shots never fail to make me lol.

I used to really enjoy drop in games. Played INDOORS and you could pick and choose what teams/jerseys you liked. Now we're stuck with the Lions and Hammerheads or whatever their name is.

The outdoor games are beyond trash. The shadows in many of them are completely brutal to the point you lose track of the puck MULTIPLE times during a game. And to add to the fun, sometimes it'll be fine at the start, but then a few minutes later the ice is full of shadows that weren't there before. Perhaps its the helicopter making its rounds.

If the outdoor games are meant to be fun, then give me an option to keep it casual and not affect my CR. Or do what literally everyone wants and put them back indoors with options to customize the teams and jerseys.

It was never in actual NHL arenas, it was some made up arena. But yes the presentation in between faceoffs needs a big change. The shots of helicopters or the crowd if playing club games gets old really quick, especially if there just a big or something that happened.
  • Personally, I wish they (EA) would just get rid of all of the extra presentation fluff in between actual game-play. Speed up the game a bit, ya know? Give the offline users the option to keep it on or off, but for online let's get as many games in as possible.

There's a reason the strength of this game is NOT the actual game-play.

Ugh.. That's awful to hear. I played just ONE game and I guess that will be the end of my CHEL career.

Drop-in was so much fun like ten years ago. I would play it almost every night when my club wasn't available.

The worst thing about this is that time and money and maybe even a bit of effort was put into making this outdoor "feature" and it goes down as a big negative for the franchise. The resources should have been used to improve the servers.

I agree but they did actually add servers this year. The central server in US is in Columbus and I think a handful more in the EU region. Still not the most responsive game at times but at least it's something better.

I'm aware they added servers, but that doesn't mean much when the end result is as bad as it is.

The servers added still have issues. I have one of the fastest internet plans in my area 300/100 mbps. My pings usually at 12 on most games. Though when I play NHL it hits the 40/50 MS mark. I have even mentioned this to EA with screen shots and they continue to ask me questions like if I reset my router or have contacted my ISP. I'm experienced in technology so I know what I'm doing.

It is utterly and insanely ridiculous how EA's tech support acts like everybody is a bumbling idiot with routers and modems.

Yep! Also I swear if indoor hockey for drop-in isn't a thing in NHL 21 I will be officially done supporting this franchise. I have other games to play instead of this sorry excuse of a game. They say they cannot make a realistic hockey game. Though look at the PS3/Xbox 360 era, it was pretty authentic then. So this is just a way to make an excuse for a poorly made game of video game hockey...

Couldn't agree with ya more here. The end of the run on the 360/PS3 with this game (NHL 12-15) were the most fun I've ever had with this game. I would play the game until it was old and time to trade in to the new version.

And this is no exaggeration when I say this. Every single version of the PS4/XB1 game has not lasted more than 2 weeks in my hands before I've had enough of it and all the flaws with every online aspect of the game. I guess the older games didn't have enough memory available to program in all the extra bulljive that happens now LOL.

Most people we talk to are not network engineers so we need to guide them through troubleshooting as if they don't know anything about it. I also can't tell you how many times someone has claimed to know what they're doing, but obviously doesn't so we have to go through the basics. We also have to make sure as much as possible that they are actually completing the steps correctly or even doing them. People come to us for help, but it takes patience and cooperation on both ends to try to get their issues resolved.
  • For the love of all things sacred can we pleeaaassseee play in normal arenas again with actual jerseys??

The unwillingness of EA reps to even touch on this issue is worrying and mind boggling.

What do you mean by unwillingness to touch on the issue? We don't have any details on what's coming for 21. More news will come as we get closer to release.

I haven't played a single drop in this year. I refuse to play one some shadow plagued helicopter infused outdoor rink. That and the clown gear keeps me away.

He may perhaps be referring to the fact that outdoor hockey is something no one asked for or wanted and people have been complaining since NHL 19 about the fact we cant play "normal" old style drop-ins with rinks and actual hockey gear. Not just a "this year" thing.

We actually had a lot of requests for outdoor rinks. The idea was that drop-ins would be in a more fun, casual environment while club games would have a more competitive feeling being indoors. Obviously not everyone agrees and we're all well aware of the feedback. We'll have to see what happens in the future.
