Hello, NHL fans!
We've been seeing some discussion about faceoffs recently so we're going to make that the weekly conversation. Let's hear your feedback on the current system and how you'd like to see faceoffs change in the future. I've merged the current conversation on this here.
Last week's Let's talk was about the return of the NHL. If you'd like to continue it, that can be done here.

I think it's time for some separation of the rules between online and offline gaming. For faceoffs in particular, the current rules should be automatic for online play and optional for offline play. Perhaps a faceoff bar that gets only slightly drained by a mere twitch - as opposed to a full stroke - and refills as the faceoff anticipation continues is a better system for offline play where you don't need to be concerned about fair play abuses.
I wonder why everyone is in such a hurry, is next game that importen...? 🙄
To many people it really is. If you have ever watched some streams and you see people blowing out a team you usually see them yelling for them to just quit because they are wasting their time. That is a big reason why people didn't like the extra time. In the 6's community many elite teams backout of match-ups to what they deem as inferior teams that simply are a waste of their time also. Also some teams back out against the juggernauts too because they don't want to waste their time either.
People really care about their time.
But at the same time they don't. I can hardly imagine this people that yelling for other's to quit are satisfied with how they spend ther time playing. Its more about to show how good they are and at the same time make the other people feel worthless. Just about a short temporary ego boost.. Thats never enough..
Slow down, be humble, try to have fun in the moment you are.
Just my idea of life.
Online - no change from 2020
Offline - change from 2020
OP states that he doesn’t like how you only get one chance against the CPU because offline has to be that way due to online trolls. He ends by saying “offline and online should maybe be different” which I agree with.
I get that the competitive and online communities can’t handle anything that can be even remotely abused because online players gunna online player, but I agree with the OP. It’s time for some separation. Would love to see offline get to actually experience NHL hockey rather than being forced to play by twirl-n-whirl rules.
Faceoffs more like 2k, hockey sticks that aren’t lightsabers, more cut scenes, more stat overlays, more announcer small-talk, better pre-game intros. I’d love all of that but I don’t get any of that because its “wasted time” to BBB n Da Boys.
I've wanted face-offs completely redone. I wish there was a way to win clean, average, and awful face-offs. Also allowing wingers and defense to move around to a degree. Either slide farther wide or into a shooting spot in the attacking zone and such. There is a ton they could do to make face-offs so much better.
Very good ideas. Would do so much more for the gameplay, to be able to have some diffrent starting points with the puck then what we have now.
A couple of years ago - the automatic loss on flinching first was a huge addition that was made via gameplay update/patch.
That being said - they feel stiff and dated, despite having the perception of balance.
It would be nice, especially in EASHL/Team play, to allow the users not taking the faceoff to dynamically adjust their position for the faceoff. Being tied to the rigid formations designed by EA - although realistic in some sense - feels incredibly limiting.
I'm not saying players should be able to skate everywhere on the ice before a faceoff. However, I feel that some type of control can be given to the users.
It's a small thing that, IMO, would add a lot to the game.
My thing was this....
-Winger along the boards can shift to the other side.
-Winger along boards in offensive zone and shift to just outside top of the ride side of the circle for a one timer.
Dman in attacking zone can go where the winger suggestion was for a one timer.
Yes my paint work is terrible but that is how I see lineups.
That’s great. Glad you’re wanting to see that as I think that’s a great idea. I was just stating that he wasn’t confused by the current system, he was simply saying that the system is rather lame for offline play.
While I appreciate your clarifications, I'm confused why this seems to be the third time you've misgendered me in doing so.
Probably not reading the name and just playing the odds lol.
"CD" is a pretty standard shorthand for crossdresser. That may be why. A male crossdresser is not a "her". If you are trans, well that's a different thing.
