Oookey, beta is running late, time is over.. Startin by sayin these words.. "Because this is truly a Technical Test, versus betas run in previous years, the experience will be less representative of the final game".. But from my point of view thers no shame in this beta.
Put it like this, I had one great game, it was pure hockey,(evidence it's really there, if both player want, and connection good), we both GG each other, I had a bunch of games that was pretty close hockey, and I had games that was no fun at all.
Biggest problem as I see it, 4-5 years we have been schooled to play a certain way, its deep pattern in our minds, 21 beta its still there, you can get away with the same type of play you did in the last couple of games in this serie, it's still a good tactic to go full power without having to think to much.
And if this game ever going to 'wash off the stamp of being just the same game', our same play on the ice cant work as good as it does, need to shutdown this plays.
Flat-footed players is a genius move, probably the beginning of something completely new, keep going on that track.👍👍
And this beta played in versus was no dedicated servers, some games where pure magic when it comes to control over things that happen on the ice, and other's not so sweet, so it's hard to give a fair judgement. If dedicated servers will mean even more control, maybe it's easier to stop 'same old game style'.
Cause when connection was good, and the opponent was in for hockey in is right meaning, it was a blast.
AI back you up better, puck had some interesting bounce's, could lay some heavy hits that dont exist in 20, passing, skating.. Yeah well, everything is more tight.
You still got some time left to do some tweaks, looking forward to see how things turns out.
Almost abit disappointed, not one singel attempt of the lacrosse move.. Sure its in the game...?
I now take back all what I said about 20...20 is not good, NHL 21 Technical beta is, in is best moments! 😏👍
There is also a survey at the top of the General Discussion boards where the NHL team is surveying the community on their Technical Test experience. Takes less than 5 minutes to complete. We are thankful if you're able to do it.

Stop saying players are getting "flat-footed"... It's not that. What McDavid did to Reilly? THAT was Reilly getting flat footed. Connor was just skating along, all nice and easy. Then BOOM! He turned on the After Burners and Reilly got caught tripping over his own feet cuz he was just standing watching McDavid.
What happens in this game is both the forwards and the defense are skating at full tilt, but the Defense is too slow and the forward just blows by them. And when the d-man tries to turn around to keep up, he gets caught on the Chocolate sauce on the ice. No change of speed, no after-burners, no hustle. Just Offense is overpowered compared to defense. As was every other year of EA NHL.

No... It's actually not. Maybe you want it to be. Or others say that it does and it sounds nice. Maybe even plausible. But that's not what happens. They're not going 50%, and then the offense turns on the Jet and gets by. They're both at 100% and the forward just goes by like nothing.
Even the AI gets smoked by this. There's no weaving, no juking. Just straight line around the d-man. That's not "getting caught flat footed". This is:
1 especially sliders for face-off separately:
| pass from center speed 0-100
|| bounces puck intensity from center 0-100
||| pass accuraccy from center 0-100
|||| pass reception easy from center 0-100
especially sliders for human/cpu separately for all of them categories
--->PASSING
Manual Passing: On/Off
Pass Assist: 0-100
Min Pass Speed: HUMAN 0-100/CPU 0-100
Max Pass Speed: HUMAN 0-100/CPU 0-100
Saucer Pass Speed: HUMAN 0-100/CPU 0-100
--->PUCK CONTROL
Inci. Cont. Puck Loss : Sticks , Legs & Body
Incidental S. C. imm.: HUMAN 0-100/CPU 0-100
---> CHECKING
Board Effect N-P C: HUMAN 0-100/CPU 0-100
Board Effect Carrier: HUMAN 0-100/CPU 0-100
and the most need this category will work. My ask is when???
--->SKATING
Back Skating: HUMAN 0-100/CPU 0-100
Hustle Type: AUTO / hustle / burst
Puck Carrier Agility: HUMAN 0-100/CPU 0-100
Puck Carrier Skating: HUMAN 0-100/CPU 0-100
I do not need anything at the nhl21 except this sliders separate.thx EA

Yep eventually every game I was actually able to play turned into offense just blowing past anyone trying to keep up. Especially AI because it was like no one told them about this new phenomenon. They were keeping great gap (if we are talking pre NHL 21) and each time the puck carrier would just skate by them. Human players could fix this by playing way too conservative gaps. End result just giving offense way too much space.
Dont want to start a whole new thread for this, but one thing I often comes back to, cause I like that play in hockey, is dump n chase.
I had more success with it in the beta then in 20, but I still think it can get even better.
I would like to see some more options, the puck always hit the glas before it drops to the ice, we should have a option to make a short dump, that hit the ice before it bounce of the board.
Make it more random, erratic puck-bounce, its often so easy to expect for the defenders where the puck will go so it gets so statically.
I think defenders would get alot more problems with this play, if they had to turn around and chase the puck in more diffrent ways then how it is now with not so many options to play the puck in to their zone.
Yes, by all means let's make defending even more difficult....
Hows that? Im not sayin they should get rid of defenders ability to poke/DSS, cover up, play body. Im talking about a bigger variation to the gameplay.
I want neither offens or defense to be easy, I want it to be hard and balanced.
And the same player that play offense will soon have to play defense, thats how hockey goes.

The game does need to be more challenging on offense. Random shots from bad angles need to be 99.5% saved by the goalies. Game speed needs to be toned back down to REALISTIC levels. Auto-pass saucer needs to be removed. Dekes need to be successful by higher overall players, not everyone on the team. LT past the red line needs to NOT cause a player to skate backwards. One-timers need to have their accuracy toned WAY down (this is the same problem we've had since last gen). Defense needs to have access to stick and body tie-ups WITHOUT having to stand still. Pucks need to STOP always going to an open player so that there can be actual fights for puck possession. Pucks need to bounce and skip more and not just be immediately scooped up with 100% control. Dump ins need to STOP going over the glass unless you dump them cross corner from the RED LINE. Goalies need to be faster getting across their crease, they need access to hop steps for this. They need to be faster going post to post. Save animations need to redirect pucks MORE to the corners and LESS right to the front of the net, especially on WEAK shots.
What makes Hockey exciting is the amount of chances to score you can generate, not how many goals you score. Typical "exciting" games in the NHL will have about 15 or more good scoring chances and 2-3 goals per team. This is not Baseball or Basketball. 1-0 and 2-0 games with 15-20 shots a side should be the norm at the highest level of play, not 10-5 scores with 8 shots a piece.
Unfortunately for that to happen, the entire game would need to go back to formula... Not gonna happen.

I was on the forum so I decided to ask, I’m not active on twitter and I was out on a camping trip all weekend. haha Thanks for the information mate!
Make it more random, erratic puck-bounce, its often so easy to expect for the defenders where the puck will go so it gets so statically.
LOL. So then why does the puck inevitably:
a) go directly to an attacker off the rebound
OR
b) get picked up by the defender only to have it immediately and AUTOMATICALLY stripped from his stick blade by the nearest attacker (or the goalie).
Again, its seems pretty clear to me you must not play much CHEL.
This is the most egregious flaw with this game. Forwards who are BEHIND your d-men will reach back and strip them of puck possession like nothing. Or your D-man will grab the puck on his forehand (to the left), so you want to go RIGHT, but instead spins 360° and loses the puck to the goalie's skates.

It is so frustrating. Even when you play well, you still lose:
executing a perfectly timed poke check... only to have the puck go DIRECTLY to a trailing opponent
executing a good hit along the boards... only to be utterly unable to pick up the puck after you have separated your target from it, only to have him get up and still skate away with it
being RIGHT ON a guy in front of the net... only to have him still receive and bury a pass that he should not have been able to.
being in position to use a net tie up... only to have it inexplicably not engage
pushing a guy in front of the net while stationary... only to receive an interference penalty
being in perfect position to receive the rebound... only to have 1) the nearest opponent automatically (I fully believe this is not a user initiated action, just a "proximity detector") strip the puck from your stick and bury it or 2) have the goalie automatically strip the puck from your stick and torpedo any chance of making a clear or breakout pass... or worse have the goalie give the puck back out to an attacker (via bad pass call from a CPU goalie or just bad judgement by human goalie).

All I talked about was to -maybe- get a better tool to work with when it comes to dump n chase hockey in this game, how things are now? Almost non-existent, and why's that.. Probebly cause no one see any benefit that comes out of it.
And of course I think its sad, cause it's a really useful and good strategy to put pressure on the opponent in the real world.
