Is the LTing officially over..? Feels so.
I'm currently ranked 50 in OVP and I am still seeing LTing but not as prevelent as last year.
Still trying to develop a defensive strategy for it. I'm very glad DSS is more active than last year, that is definitely helping.
Also, poke checking from DSS is very pleasing this year. Last year, I felt like sometimes it would target the skates for no reason - maybe poor positioning on my part - but this year there seems to be some forgiveness on that aspect as well as more accuracy based on where you're pushing RS.
It also seems you can pre-emptively aim your poke checks by pushing RS in a direction immediately before pushing poke check. Aiming a poke check using DSS comes with more accuracy but requires a bit more dexterity with the fingers - but I like it.
Defending this year seems far smoother - there's even more importance on body positioning which is very good to see. With the locomotion engine from the UFC game - you can really feel the weight behind getting positioning on someone who has the puck and stripping it from them.
Previously, this felt cheap - you just hit poke check or stick lift and strip the puck.
This year it feels you need to do those things in coordination with your body - and that is stellar. Absolutely love it.
My fear is users will complain about this - not having a deep understanding of body positioning importance in stripping possession - but also being used to just having to hit one button to obtain the puck.
I sincerely hope the development team doesn't cave in to the flood of complaints that will come from users who previously realized success in the NHL series by using just the actions (poke, stick lift) with no thought to their body positioning.
I am having a blast with NHL 21. And this is coming on the heels of being handed a 15-0 loss by the #5 ranked player in OVP. He dessimated my defence and instead of trying to keep the score low I pushed my team to try and generate offense.
Although it may sound strange, I was glad to see that a user like myself in that position (down by too many goals) was held to 0 goals because I was rushing things too much offensively without getting any puck luck.
The randomness of luck can be abated by playing solid D - which this player did and shut me down completely.
It's nice to know I have those same tools in my tool belt - I just need to utilize them better.
I would have been furious to lose by that score and cussing the game out instead of accepting the fact that I stunk that game so I can respect that you accepted the loss so well.
I like a lot of what I read in your reply, it was nice to see something positive said about the game for a change. The board is filled with negativity.
Oh I was mad. But in all of the goals my opponent got behind me, I honestly couldn't find an explanation that didn't begin with 'I was pulling my D out of position' or 'I turned the puck over.... AGAIN'.
Although a goal or two would make me question the physics calculations or the goalie animation the game decided to pull from the database - in the end it was a poor decision by ME that started a process that ended up with a puck in my net.
The positive side of being the victim of a **** whooping like that is knowing that had I just made a few better decisions early on - I might've hung in there a little better.
But he was good and played by the book of hockey or did he cut corners and 'cheesed' you out..? Im honestly respectfull against people thats better then me, but I dont like to loose against people that.. Hmm.. Don't really follow the rules of hockey, but im okey with that too.. At least they know what there doing.
I'm curious about this, it sounds like his opponent might have been a bit of a cheater, 15-0 isn't a normal behind whopping. It takes a special player to put on a display like that.
God it's nice to don't have to worry about contacts.

I mean there were more cross-crease one-timers than anything else - some people may consider that 'cheese' - but I feel it's just open season for one-timers when the human plays poor defense.
The only 'cheese' this paricular player pulled off on me was an in-tight forehand/backhand on the goalie.
But again - I let him get there. It's hard to stomach a goal you see so often, but if I can shoulder the blame it makes me hate that aspect of the game less.
I hate to say it, it sounds like he exploited the game to no end. It stinks having to play players like that. There's literally no fun in playing players who use exploits all game. Luckily I'm more of an offline player. That stuff isn't an issue there. I have no problem losing straight up, but if someone comes at me with cheap stuff that's where I get annoyed with the game.

Yeah, but 15-0? Something is up there. We both know it. The only way I get my behind kicked that badly is players like that. I can hang with the top players who play something that resembles hockey. Not that cheap stuff that a lot of the top players use.

A 'problem' I had with 20,and play top rank games, it wasen't never really a clean game, no beauty in it or what so ever. But of course it had good quality/high standard of moves that was made.
But I wish it to be, if 2 high skilled players were facing, you were in for a clean good hockey treat without headache.

I think my ranking has more to do with the size of the current population playing the game rather than my skill level haha. In NHL 20 my highest rank was about 250 and I've since sunk below 1,000.
I wish I captured the entire game - I wouldn't accuse this player of exploiting anything other than a poor game on my part defensively and maybe 2-3 goals where they abused the typical forehand/backhand - but again, I shouldn't be letting them get that close.

Yea I agree. In '20, when facing top ranked opponents it became more of a game of 'stop the cheese' rather than an intense back and forth of generating opportunities and stellar defensive play.
I feel '21 has the potential to realize the latter - but it's early days and we still need that infamous 1st tuner-set that reduces us all to tears.
Hehe Yup I agree.. I dont really know yet how good my opponent's are, other then how they play.. Some really good games, and some more toxic. But yeah we will have to see how this turns out.
One thing is for sure.. - When- the first patch comes out, im going to be nervous, heaven or hell....
Is anyone else having an issue with previews not showing up in create player or create team? What I mean is the circles on the left side of the screen with all the logos, colours, etc for CAT and gear, hairstyles etc for CAP. The circles are there but they're empty. Will get a screenshot later when I'm on my PS4.

I think he maybe exploited a poor performance on my part and I was getting a little cocky having not lost a game up until then.
Yeah, but 15-0? Something is up there. We both know it. The only way I get my behind kicked that badly is players like that. I can hang with the top players who play something that resembles hockey. Not that cheap stuff that a lot of the top players use.
Think about it, you're a top 50 player and still lost by 15 goals, that couldn't have been legit. No way.
Yeah I defenetly with you here.. I consider myself as a pretty decent player and I never run over guys with that score.. Shots and TOA thats one thing, but the score is often pretty close. I loose Sometimes with 7-0..but the stuff that thoose guys do.. I can only laugh and hope for a more hockey mindfull-dude to play next game..
Me and my friends just finished our 10 hour trial and all of us agree this is the WORST nhl game released in a long time. EASHL is unplayable with how broken the game is. Defence does not matter anymore with pucks going threw players no matter how well covered or in position defenders are. Hopefully their is a patch to fix this lousy game.
next problem is : defenders AI is not shooting from D-point now. I am back to nhl20. nhl21 is not good game now. I did try tuner 1.00 1.01 there is no different. tuner 1.00 looks better.
I notice the poke check is not as powered this year and the AI was getting past me more easily. That might be why you can use the DSS without tripping now because they nerfed the poke just a bit so now it can you can actually use it without getting a penalty. I used to avoid using the poke with the DSS because of that. Maybe I better try using it more intentionally and aim it instead of just trying to do a generic poke.
NEW FEATURE - EA doesn't allow us to play with friends (coop) in HUT this year. Such a good idea EA !!! GOOOOODDD WOOORKKKK

I was told that they removed season's because not a lot of people played it ,but if I wasn't playing with friends online I never had a problem finding a game wether it was at 1pm or 1am ....
Definitely not an excuse to sell this as a full-priced title.
Speaking of price, an interesting trend here locally. Three major retailers are selling the standard disc version at EUR 45.00 for pre-order. In previous years they've been mostly EUR 59.00, when the PS Store version has always been EUR 69.00 for the standard version.
Can only speculate why it's so cheap this time around, maybe pre-orders have been really down this year? Several shops are still retailing the game around EUR 59 to 69, so it's not like the price is coming from importers/distributors, I guess?
So that's not too bad, especially as there's no advantage in pre-ordering the standard version from PS store, as you don't get to play any sooner. The only thing is perhaps, the 94 retro game?
I'd be comfortable buying this game for what it is around EUR 35 to 40 at release, so we're not that far off.
Strange, now the price has dropped to EUR 39.90 day before the official release? I guess the pre-orders aren't flying off the shelves like they used to?

the big problem: puck is going through the bodies, sticks, legs.
= interception passes is not working
= cross crease passes are so easy
= passes are so easy
I am still waiting for any FIX. This game has $5 value at this time.

I'm curious about this, it sounds like his opponent might have been a bit of a cheater, 15-0 isn't a normal behind whopping. It takes a special player to put on a display like that.

Sounds like you take it as a man.
One thing is for sure.. - When- the first patch comes out, im going to be nervous, heaven or hell....
