Online VS Strategies and Lines

So I just realized that I can change the Lines and Team Strategies prior to entering a VS game. I was very excited to see this as it was something that was pulled in previous iterations (maybe it was in last years).

Anyways, I also realized that these settings don't save the next time I come back to play. Is this supposed to be the case? I would understand if there was a roster update or something, but why would everything go back to default? It's really annoying to keep going back in and changing the strats to my preference.

  • EA intentionally left that option out in order to get people to play HUT, which does allow you to save lineups.

I'm sure that was the reason...

At least it should be an easy fix then if the option is already their for HUT.

I understand that versus is not where the majority of the player base resides, but it's disappointing that this mode gets very little attention when it is the only real "NHL" mode other than franchise...which I hear didn't really get an upgrade either.

I think I put "edit lines" on the wish list back in 17 or 18, so I was really excited to see it today. It's just a shame that it doesn't stay permanent after it's done.
  • I'm right there with you on this. I came back to this franchise last spring after five years away and I exclusively played versus for ~1000 games until I was totally fed up with having to spend 10 minutes or so editing everything just to play. So I've been playing HUT since then but I haven't spent a dime on it and I never will.

Versus really is a great mode but EA hasn't found a way to monetize it yet that doesn't include turning it into a bogus fantasy league.

I don't see how they could monetize Versus. Other than gameplay, there is a limit to what they can improve in this game mode.

Anyways, I want to try and stick to the topic in hopes a higher up see this. I am going to be very optimistic that this could be patched in, because HUT is not something I am interested in playing. I just want to be able to play with my team and the lines I feel will give me the best opportunity to win...I mean, I'm already playing with a handicap with the Sabres...

This has absolutely nothing to do with it. The reason is that when it comes to online games, rosters are saved on our servers and the game checks every time to make sure your using the same roster as your opponent. I'm not saying there's no way to build a feature to edit and save lines, but it's a lot more complex than people realize and is in no way done just to force people to play HUT. If we really wanted to monetize everything, you'd see more than the 1 way to spend money.

This has been a constant complaint from the community for over a decade.

The fact it remains unresolved is incredibly frustrating.

Understandably - the current setup has some type of limitation preventing us from saving lines and strategies but you’d think after 10 years of hearing about this issue there would be a fix developed.

This feature did exist in the past though. Any reason why it was taken out?

I don't recall it existing, but that's entirely possible. I don't play much Online Versus. Regardless, if it did exist, I don't have any details on why it would have been removed. It most definitely had nothing to do with trying to force people to play HUT. If that was our interest, HUT would be the only mode available.

I only play Versus and I can say for sure this feature was in the game. Our edited lines were saved until there was a roster update and then we could go back in and edit them based on our preferences.

I don't recall being able to edit strategies outside of a game though, so I believe this is new, but I could be wrong.

Cool. I'll take your word for it then. Unfortunately, I don't have any details on why this isn't in the game currently other than what I've already explained. If I hear of anything else, I'll let you know, but I know the dev team is aware of the requests for this.

Thanks! I remember requesting it years ago, but I couldn't tell you which year was the last time it was in. Fingers crossed for a patch haha
