What is the main thing the majority of players want when they go into a 6’s drop in game?

As for myself I’m hoping I don’t have any trolls and scrubs on my team.

I’m sick of losing RP’s and games because of trolls and scrubs no matter how well I played. So I suggest a matchmaking system where trolls, scrubs and quitters are matched up with and against each other and similar for good players that actually want to play the game the way it is meant to be played.

Maybe sort players by the coaching grades (this obviously needs to be fixed/redone probably) over the average of 5 games.

Sort players by A-F grades. A’s play A’s and below, B’s play B’s and below and so forth. If there isn’t enough A’s then B’s are added and so forth.

Trolls troll to ruin the experience of those that actually want to play. If they’re mainly playing with and against other trolls then that kinda defeats their purpose.

Scrubs (ok lesser experienced and skilled) can play with and against each other. If they want to move up to a better class of players then they’ll learn to play better much quicker.

Now you might think the good players (higher classes) will constantly beat up on the lesser players. So if lesser players want to not lose then they’ll try to learn and play better. Most importantly not quit. If you quit then your grade stays. Even if you lose if you don’t quit and play better then maybe your grade improves and you eventually rank up after 5 games. If you quit a game you get an automatic F grade.

Same goes for good players (higher ranks) moving down a class. If I play an average of 5 **** games then I move down a class.

I think a system like this will motivate and encourage players to play better at all times and most importantly not quit games.

Punish the trolls, quitters and scrubs by making them play with each other and reward the better players by putting them with each other.

    That’s the general idea.

EA can even rename the teams accordingly like The Aces, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Win or lose if you play well enough you stay on The Aces or The Good. Win or lose if you play bad or troll then you stay on that team. You quit regardless and you get the lowest grade possible and stay or move down a tank accordingly.

Its a good idea except the dwindling population and excessive amount of game types won't give you enough people to find a game with your grade group. Maybe with/if crossplay but I'm not holding my breath on that happening either.
  • Open the mics up for everyone on the ice, not just your team.
Add a mute opponents team option if you never want to hear them.
We already have individual mutes to take care of those odd bad apples.

Trash talking is a part of sport.
Positional 3D audio for all players would be optimal, but probably not realistic for a patch.
  • Eliminate the ability for goalies to fight! It’s useless and only punishes the RW.

    Eliminate Enforcers too! Also useless.
  • Eliminate the ability for goalies to fight! It’s useless and only punishes the RW.

    Eliminate Enforcers too! Also useless.

In relation to this, kick anyone who starts a fight within seconds of the opening face-off.
It is already clear at that point what their purpose is; give them a game misconduct and get rid of them.
  • When my friends and I play this game we call it the best terrible game ever made.

Dropins 1. Why do they keep a goalie in so long after they goto the middle of ice 8 times? Take them out for continuing to ruin the game

    2. The party system in this game is terrible. Whey does it make it so difficult to join a game as a group and then you can leave as a group with a leader? Have a leader choose to start the game and leave the game as 1. After a drop in game dont put us in a group together automatically give a 10 second as. All it has to say is "Party Up?" you can click yes or no. Then you not stuck looking at a guy in end of game waiting that is somehow now the party leader so and you can't leave as group that you were in. Now three of us have to leave. Checking roster, one guys start invites, checking roster again. Why is the barrier to play as a group so high.

PS how do we get into droppin games and it separates the group. That bond should be tight.

    3. The Club play. Stop letting a two man group be in a 6 man clubs, they can play 3s, 3s eliminator, dropping and party with with someone( leave as group and play with him in clubs, view groups in #2). It doesn't have to be exact but you should be able to find a team to play that is in 1 person either side your group, eg (you have 4, play either 3,4 or 5.) another eg (Your have 5 play against 4,5, or 6) Revelotionary!!. Your can leave exact there for people that want it.
We have a club stadium that is fun to build and his different things where places feel different. Why does we play a season then a Final that lasts just as long as the regular season. Have the time spent not in stadiums but out door on a plain rink. The season should be 5/6 of the time, playoffs 1/6 the time. Teams are too tough to find that aren't the same amount of group since we have to go exact with five to not play a 2 ( refer to part 1 of #3).

Stop Letting Away teams switch to home jerseys. If I have to play the same colored team 1 more time I'm going to change all my jerseys to solid black.

Give me some hope we are trying to make this better.
Who is in charge of this department of EA NHL???? Do you need help with an improvement Ideas guy???

    Sincerely
    Jimmy Fishsticks #20
    Frog Lickers (PS)
  • If you play enough Drop-Ins, it becomes pretty clear that a large part of the player base wants to dictate who they play with or against.

Just give them what they want and add lobbies.
Let people see the games and players avail to play, send challenges and such. More like what you had going on PC in 2007.

Did you recently update your player's look? It's possible there's a bugged item you've chosen that is causing this. Is it just hoodies that are causing the crash? If so, are you able to choose a parka or jersey instead?

I feel like the vast majority of quitting comes from:
    • trolls who got bored
    • people who got fed up with trolls
    • very lopsided game
If you fix trolling and matchmaking/balancing then the quitting issue should be more or less a non issue.

I think this is the wrong attitude for Drop-Ins.
Drop-In should be a place people can go to play without stress, be able to experiment and try new things and they shouldn't be discriminated against by a community of people that take things a bit too seriously.

You have to play with what you get or get a team together and play in the EASHL.

I'm hoping that through this discussion people are starting to see the harm it does to have RP connected to a open ice environment.

You're creating an environment where your players are all too guarded against losing RP so they feel the need to try to control the outcome.
This manifest in lots of different ways, none of them good for the gameplay or the game.

Here's the main issue plaguing Drop-ins, fixed games.
Drop-ins have become a place where most players seem to be using it to boost for stats/badges by having friends throw games.
This trend is occurring at 100% rate; you can't play a clean game in drop-in any more, they are all fixed.

I can only imagine this is because of leaguers that are needing to keep their RP up to either try out for teams or keep their spot on a team.

Boosting is going to happen no matter what, so just make it easier for them to do without getting in the way of legit players.

Another option could be to allow an 'Empty Net' mode.
My experience in drop-ins tells me that people want everything they put on net to go in so give them a mode for that because it's pretty clear to me the average drop-in player cannot score on AI because of poor play making abilities and the huge trend of goalies letting in goals on purpose.

Ya agree. If "scrubs" are your problem then make a club, or at least get a bunch of guys together and roll in a crew in dropins.

I literally have not seen this on XBox at least.

They already did... it's called Eliminator. Otherwise - and no offense - this is a horrible idea. I am not sure how anyone could endorse the existence of an explicit "boosting mode". A better alternative would be to allow RP in private matches if you are going to cater to these people, but honestly, I would much rather have the game detect and boot people engaging in this kind of behaviour.

Empty net hockey is real thing tho. When you don't have goalie in an open skate, people usually turn the net around and you have to score by banking off the end boards. Another way we used to play was that only post shots were worth a goal.

I'm not advocating being a booster, but just like the trolls, there will always be boosting so I am looking for ways to get them out of legit players' way.

The ultimate option, and unfortunately the ugliest one for gamers under a certain age, is to remove RP from Drop-In.

I love the addition of 3v3, the game is enjoyable and easy to play with a couple real-life friends as opposed to having to recruit randoms to fill a 6’s team.

The versatility and balanced builds this season are fantastic, the small glitchy sniper was boring after a while. The improvements to the AI are great too, if you can identify the strengths and weaknesses or each unique AI, you can use them appropriately and enjoy the experience instead of always getting frustrated with them like it had been in the past.

There are a few things that can be added or adjusted to make the experience more enjoyable though, so here are my thoughts.

    * for the love of god, add in an “open all” for the bags, this just seems like a troll job by EA at this point; but the problem is that time is valuable and it really is a huge time waster opening dozens or even 100’s of bags.

    * bring back playoffs and get rid of this mini season where you get locked into one of five divisions, only seeing 20% of the population. It is hard to find games late at night sometimes and the whole concept creates an extremely underwhelming anti climatic experience.

    * what happened to being able to customize the camera angle? I play defense and I remember being able to pan to camera angle down so I could see my outlet passes better while also having a closer perspective than overhead. Now we just have cookie cutters that aren’t efficient for defense in my opinion. Please give customization options.

    * bring back club stat records. I have to manually track our club record because me and the boys like to have friendly competition. Club records for most goals, assists, points, blocks , takeaway, interceptions etc etc …. It’s cool to be recognized and also have a challenge to beat the record.

    * should manual goalie games have a separate leader board? I think it’s a bit unfair to compare point and especially point per game leaders that mostly play human goalie against clubs that play AI. It would be nice to separate the two leaderboards in my opinion.

    * the grading system was cool in the past, when you would strive for an A+ . Now we have this RP badge that’s 100% based on wins and losses with literally zero influence on personal play. The personal grades held people accountable in my opinion. My center constantly tries to beat the defense on the boards during zone entry and is always getting smashed, creating turn overs. This coaches challenge thing where you get check marks is hardly an indicator of responsible play like the older letter grades used to be. It’s silly to have the same RP gains/losses as every teammate when some of us are more responsible and will check up and make a pass or turn back to reconfigure the zone entry, thus creating far less turnovers. I like that win/loss record effects it but the grading system criteria mixed in would be nice because it would motivate irresponsible players to play smarter once they are embarrassed by there noticeable lower rating compared to other teammates.

    * why can’t we fight in 3’s ? Fighting is part of the sport and it’s a lot of fun to be able to do it in the game. It just seems like a missed opportunity to provide more excitement and fun for the users, it doesn’t make any sense to me. We could have limits of one fight per player , or 3 fights max for the entire team. The players involved in the fight would sit in the box while a AI took over, or just keep playing without a penalty but maybe max the energy levels of the winning fighters team while giving lower energy levels to the losers for a period of time.

    * you may want to consider a shot clock eventually, as top teams can rag the puck for far too long in threes, creating frustration while allowing poor sportsmanship to continue without consequence. Basketball have one for this reason and given the fact it’s sort of an arcade style threes, it doesn’t take away from integrity since this format is already unconventional.

    * can we be honest and explain why so many of us feel an obvious shift in the game, seemingly tilting the puck luck to one team or another? It feels very inconsistent at times and it is very frustrating when the physics aren’t consistent.

    * can we have a stat breakdown or a more specific description as to what the abilities do? Does strength multiply on just about everything? Does awareness effect ability to pass, score and pickup loose pucks? Does one time wonder increase the shot stat by 2 or 5? It would be awesome if we could have a more transparent perspective on our player builds.

    Thanks for reading!

Indeed, playing as a defender, you need to have a close enough camera to control your opponent.
You need to see the puck and see the net. Now on most cameras, playing as a defender is uncomfortable.
Because there are disgusting moments when the camera runs away, the space behind the net is lost from view, and sometimes the net itself. (and this is many times per match)
