Sounds like facial scans is much more importen then I ever thought. I have never really bother, with the idea 'a face is a face' as long as it looks a - little - like the real deal. Maybe EA and I, share the same type of attitude regarding this..
But I like you guys that care over this, you are hardcore.
And there's really no question, to have this kinda stuff in order, would defenetly be a good thing for the overall impression.
I'm not going to lie - I could settle for 50% likeness. The problem is that half the guys who 23whoisjohnny23 listed don't even have 25% likeness. They look like more Joe NHLs.
And if you've seen me around here, I tend to be too demanding lol. I'm a simulator guy - I'm looking to get the most realistic AI vs AI games out of this game. It's not easy. So yeah, I guess I'm hardcore, but I represent a very small portion of the fanbase.

Yeah but I get were you coming from.. And today.. 2020, I guess we have the rights, to be abit demanding.
And I started to think, if all this stuff would be done in a professionally way, the whole game would feel so much more fresh and new. I have a feeling next gen will give us both something to cheer for.

Me too man. I just don't want to have to wait a whole nother year LMAOOO

Hehe unfortunately we have no other option, but look at the bright side, we're alive! 😏
i am always more upset when a profile image is missing.
definitely, especially when it's an up-and-coming or semi-well known player. if they don't have a profile avi, they likely don't have a face scan either.
I'd expect improved face scans going into next gen titles. The pandemic made it difficult for face scans across all of our sports titles because of the difficulties such as travel (flight restrictions or players and employees opting not to risk COVID-19 infections).
Another thing the virus has stripped us of. RIP.
Can only hope for the best for the future, because that hair for Mika Zibanejad is NOT it.
If we had the Frostbite Engine I think graphics would become much better. FIFA has some beautiful scans of players. I don't think the current engine can put out the graphics many of you all want.
Frostbite is not an engine I want to even touch nhl after all the stuff I've heard about it. Nightmare to work with, or something along those lines.

You sir, are correct.
If NHL moves to Frosbite, I'm out for good.
Why? Because Frosbite is an animation based engine.
So, you say? It means EA is sticking with disguising their rigged casino as a sports title. Animations are easier to use for ice tilt.... I mean dynamic difficulty.... no, I meant surprise mechanics.... ahhh what ever they're calling today.
Until someone builds a dedicated physics based hockey engine, a weird version of hockey is all I think we're ever going to get.

I am deeply hoping that when they move to next gen for NHL 22, they scrap 75% of the current game, and 95% of the gameplay. You are completely right - this game is not phyiscs based at all. I was thinking of this the other day, how if the game wasn't so reliant on animations, there would be so much more room for creativity on the ice.
I just purchased NHL 21 so I haven't really looked at the face scans much. With there being 700+ players in the NHL, it'd be hard to get an updated head every year. However, there is a plugin called ZWrap for one of the major 3d programs that EA uses that could drastically increase the number of scanned heads produced each year. The factors after that are player's availability to be scanned and the processing time it takes to generate the scanned mesh/texture. Also, depending on how the players are scanned, there might be additional cleanup required.
As far as the comment earlier about hair, they could use hair cards generated from Maya's Xgen, but how it looks really depends on the engine they are using and you still wouldn't get animated hair when your helmet falls off. Generally hair physics are only created for main characters in games, so if this was Aloy from HZD dropping the gloves, I'd want to see some hair physics too. 😃

I have been desperate for a change, so I was willing to take anything.
But im mostly sick and tired of playing against this same type of 'not-hockey' over and over again until my brain rotten.
