Speaking of which - as someone else noted - why AREN'T goalies getting a poke check on pucks that cross right in front of them through the blue paint?

Poke checks from goalies are dependant on different variables. Their poke check rating, the time to react as well as the relative speed of the puck. Also, goalies are vulnerable when they're poking so we don't want them to commonly attempt this.

I feel like you could work some logic in to the game so that when a team attempts a certain threshold of cross-crease passes right through the blue paint - the goalie should learn that's the 'go-to' and risk exposing himself in order to negate something that's being tried over and over.

I would take it one step further and say that any goalie worth their salt should be getting a stick on a pass going through the paint, really very little risk involved.

In the event the goalie misses the poke check, he'll be unable to move out of that animation quickly enough to attempt a save on the one-timer.

    Eventually, that could be abused.

There has to be something in the engine that can track player tendencies. In this case, a player (or team in EASHL) consistently forcing passes through the slot - that's something the game should be able to pick up on and introduce that pattern to the goalie; meaning they read it better and negate it more often.

  • If the goalie is trying to get his stick on a pass it shouldn’t be a full-blown poke-check where his hand moves to the ****-end of his stick. Yes, he should poke at pucks that go through the blue, but his hand should stay on the paddle.

Yeah very good idea kid. The mission should be to create a game were we would have to renew our ways to attack if we start notice that the goalie/opponent seen through our plan.

Earlier I shouldn't have said - and do not mean - a full on "poke check". I simply mean get a stick on it as I more recently phrased it. It is a trivial movement to simply slide the stick blade out a little if a goalie tracks the puck through his paint. (My son plays the position so this is something I have at least 2nd hand knowledge on and a lot of hours of observation LOL)

I agree that an AI goalie should be able to read trends like you describe and adjust accordingly.

Yes. This is what I mean.

  • Well, I am a sucker and bought the game half price over the holidays. I really hope they patch this mess though. Otherwise I can see this might be the last one I buy for a while.

Has EA actually acknowledged how bad the cross crease situation is?

Ice the game is playing exactly as intended , Cross Crease passes are op because the defensive AI was programed not to pick off passes around the crease or slot area I heard one of the game changers say it on his stream while he himself was complaining about the positioning of the defensive AI ,and that's another thing if you play the game enough they never improved the offensive AI to look for passing lanes they just made the Defensive AI more stupid .... remember this game is rated 2 stars for a reason and from what I heard confirmed what I wrote in a previous post

This game was made to favor the offense ,I've posted clips just like a bunch of others showing just that

The 'situation' being that people still haven't figured out how to defend it?

Someone on Reddit posted the best comment about cross-crease:
    You 100% can defend them.

People confuse not being able to stop it while it's currently happening with not being able to defend it.

defending it begins before your blue line

Yup people refuse to fall back, no mather what they do. They rather run through your side of the board then to fall into a backskate and defend.... 100% offens and 0.1% defense.

But the worst part, it still works pretty good..

I am one guy on a team of six random people. There is only so much I can do.

Even so, there are passes that are getting through and cleanly buried that really have no business doing so.

Can you provide a video of a goal that you feel has 'no business' being scored?

And if you're seeing the cross-crease so much in 6v6 - then you need to have a discussion with your teammates about playing defense.

    1) Many have posted such videos. I have no interest in doing so.
    2) I play drop in - there is no "discussion with my teammates"

Are you disputing the assertion that there are noticeably more passes getting through bodies and sticks for clean shots? I really feel this is true based on what I have seen. This really needs to be addressed, irrespective of the fact that yes, teams should be playing better defense to prevent the situation from unfolding in the first place. Both of things can be true at once: they are not mutually exclusive.

I get what you are saying. If the cross creases were legit this would be 100% a valid argument. But I have seen too many videos of pucks getting through razer thin passing lanes - or even no passing lane really - to unerrantly go to an opponent's tape, who then seems to ignore any body or stick contact by the defender and gets a *clean* shot off.

As the game stands, this argument is a terrible one IMO. I mean it works on one level, but really the core problem needs to be fixed. Telling people to avoid getting in a situation where the opponent is set up for a cross crease is partial solution but it's also a band aid.

@KidShowtime1867 this is one of the more extreme examples of the kind of stuff that I am talking about. (Courtesy of @Sega82mega )

I care not to argue whether this is good defense or not, but the fact this puck made it RIGHT onto the recipients tape at all is the sort of nonsense I am referring to. I am not for conspiracy theories but it's almost like there is a "pass gets through at all costs" programming logic at work here.

Sorry man - but you are wrong. The only video I've seen is one that was posted after release showing the puck going through an LB kneel - and then more subsequent videos came out - which forced EA to patch it.

    That's it.

There has yet to be a legit video on these forums showing a pass 'going through' a player where there wasn't a mistake made by the defending team.

If 'many have posted such videos' - then it shouldn't be hard for you to find one to prove your point, no?

Forming an opinion of this game based on drop-ins is the most rookie mistake you can make.

    No.

What I am disputing is that this is solely the fault of the game.

:/ Look there are two things going on here.

    1) Bad defense. I get that, so please stop beating me over the head with it.
    2) Issues where the puck seems to ignore physics and cruises through places where it has no business being able to do so, which has ZERO to do with bad defense. See the video I linked above.

See above. Pucks ignoring physics is, in fact, solely the fault of the game.
