same rink, same teams, same nonsense every month "Playoffs" what about any of this is a playoff.
It's almost as if they're in a bubble! At any rate, the feedback is appreciated. I don't have any details on the future of playoffs currently. I know the dev team is keeping an eye on the constructive input we're receiving on this so, please keep it coming.
Why not just bring back the traditional playoff format and add it as an option once a month? You can still keep your other mode that no one likes and let clubs do both. Perhaps EA could listen and throw us a bone here.
Is there any hope for playoffs to be returned to normal this year? This format does not make any sense and it’s really not properly explained anywhere. It doesn’t feel like playoffs at all anymore. It’s just a crappy outdoor game and theres no chance of ever winning a cup unless you have the free time to play multiple games every night. It just doesn’t make any sense to me. My team has just stopped playing all together until the playoffs end because it’s a waste of time.
Previous gen consoles were great. You had fans waving towels, the volume was turned up slightly, it felt like a playoff atmosphere. On top of that you only had one shot at it, which made it feel way more intense, especially when you got to the 3rd or 4th rounds.
This game mode has been around for like 10 years and just some small tweaks to the old system wouldve made it way more enjoyable. Instead it was completely overhauled for a format that makes no sense and doesn’t give anyone who doesn’t have their whole life dedicated to the game any chance at winning the playoffs. Not that I REALLY care about winning the playoffs on a video game, but it would be kind of fun.
I’m sure there’s been a million threads about this, but I don’t really care. Clearly EA hasn’t decided to change anything so I feel I need to state how horrible of an experience it has been so far. Sometimes it really feels like EA is intentionally tanking this game so they can justify not producing it anymore. This company has spent more damn time this year worrying about offensive names than the quality of the game. Pathetic.
There's a couple of threads about it and its all negative. I think intentions were good however 20 days is way to long, especially since (once again) they too away the choice to play playoffs or regular games.
I play with several clubs and random ones each night and nobody cares about these playoffs. They just want them to end so they don’t have to play on this outdoor rink and can get back to playing indoors on theirs or their opponents where the atmosphere (fans etc) is a more enjoyable experience.
Fact: the majority don’t even care about this mode. I never hear any teams I’ve played on caring about winning the playoffs, winning their division or even who’s club to use.
The top 4 reasons the majority play it are because of:
LG and other leagues whether it is to play actual league games or just to practice with your team.
To play and have fun with friends that in most cases actually know how to play hockey and/or a team game without the trolls, quitters and scrubs that are in the majority of drop ins.
The human goalie factor where a team automatically loses if their goalie quits unlike drop ins.
The indoor rink/ice/atmosphere factor unlike the outdoor rinks in drop ins that the majority are sick of and don’t want to play on anymore.
Once again EA thinking they know best and not giving the majority of players what they want.
Completely agree with the original post. The new playoff format is an absolute failure. It's went from limited and exciting to long-drawn-out, losing all immersion, and no chance for most teams to even win anything, so why even bother.
I've had talk with many players and many clubs and no one AT ALL seems to like anything about it. The only positive comment I've heard was that it was nice to see EA finally put in some effort/work into EASHL and trying something new (but just hope we aren't stuck with this now). Besides that, nothing good to say AT ALL.
Also SO much hate, and not just dislike, but absolute HATE for the outside rink gameplay. Everyone in agreeance that the outdoor rinks lose all feeling of immersion and playoff atmosphere. (not to mention that no one, in general, like them for any game mode). No fans going nuts, towels being waved, arena audio, goal horns, sound effects of big hits all completely muffled or silenced, etc. The overall feeling and immersion is completely gone.
EA needs to either go back to the drawing board and/or go back to the old format. No one likes the new format. Not anyone I've talked to and I've talked to quite a lot of players and clubs.
Literally cannot find a game! EA clearly not listening to player feedback.
They haven't been for awhile now. Even the CM deleted his Xbox Account due to being hammed at for certain issues not fixed within the game. It's safe to say this games not going to be worked on being this far in and no real gameplay fixes since before the New Year other than little stuff like Jersey's, Rosters.
LGHL is the main thing I have been playing recently due to not being able to find games in regular club. Private lobbies are also the only way we can avoid this stupid outdoor rink gameplay that barely anyone likes.
Franchise mode is still broken, considering I played it for the first time in months. On Authentic settings I can run players at full speed, and they can do the same with no penalties.
Also in Hut Rivals I get charged at constantly with no penalties called and can do the same in some situations. In IRL you take more than 3 steps and run someone at full speed it's a penalty.
I'm already getting prepared for MLB. Though I enjoy hockey and have went back to NHL 14 because I enjoy it better and still have friends in lobbies playing it.
My friends and I sat in a lobby waiting for nearly an hour and just complained the whole time. EA doesn't care. We tried a drop in but ended up playing just 2 humans. We're basically forced to reset our club so we can go back to div 10 and find games or find a community of players that are on par with our skills. Absolutely horrible planning by this development team. Perhaps the worst decision they've made in a while and that's actually impressive..
We almost only play the weekends so it took us a while just to unlock enough to get decent uniforms for the club but we might reset the club to find games next time. Sucks EA has made us even consider that.. I couldn't be more displeased with the direction this game is going.. it really does feel like they're purposefully alienating their player base.
EA: alright what can we do that says "we don't care"
Exec 1: let's just put a bunch of pop music in that no one will like!!!
EA: brilliant!!
Exec 2: let's split the player pool by flooding the game with as many modes and lobbies as possible!
EA: LOVE IT!
Exec 3: people might continue to play club too much, let's create a barrier where people can only play within their division for half the year!
EA: OMG!
Exec 4: people seem to want online franchise.. actually I forget where I was going with that.

Its true. If they were actually listening to it's player base, they would know that the majority of EASHLers would like to the fully customizable builds back, which in point of fact were less broken than the current system. Or that we want a custom logo uploader/designer. 2K has a moderation algorithm at work that prevents in appropriate logos, no reason why it wont work for EA.
The playoff format, while interesting in theory, works like a steaming pile of hot garbage. Go back to the four wins and you win, or for a twist, make it three wins, then a best two of three in the finals, I'm sure you could have teams commit to a three game series/make it so that the finals are locked in against that team until the series is done.
Get rid of all the secondary EASHL modes and just keep 3s, and 6s. No eliminator, ones, or anything like that. The current iteration of EASHL has been set up for failure

We only hear from a fraction of the community so making the assumption that the majority wants the old system back isn't true. I'm not saying that the people we don't hear from don't feel the same, but claims that the majority want this feature back are pure speculation. Regardless, the dev team is very well aware of the requests for this feature. It's not ruled out for the future, but they typically won't return an old feature without updating it somehow.

No, every single forum is full of people asking for all of this and more, you only listen to a tiny fraction of the population. It's not speculation, its fact. I'm not going to get drawn in here, I will not respond to you, and please stop responding to me unless it actually violates something.

I'm not saying there are those outside of the forums community that don't agree with you, but there's an exponentially higher amount of people that play and don't post on forums. I definitely won't argue that custom builds would be great to have back, but if they return it's not going to happen in 21. You can't just remove the current build system and put up a new one overnight. The same goes for the playoff format. As far as custom logos go, it's a constant battle as it is trying to stop offensive player names. I don't see letting people make their own logos happening as that would just generate more offensive material.
I'm not saying what you're suggesting are bad ideas. The dev team is always listening and changes are made every year based on community feedback. They look at the whole community though and not just what is said in forums.

Nobody is asking for a revert in 21. We're asking for it to come back in 22, and the custom logo thing can work...2k has offensive content moderation for their logos in 2k games, so there's no reason that can't be implemented with EA's games
