This matchmaking sucks
So tonight me and my friend decided to play 3v3 drop ins despite the current meta being skate in circles until you have a open man for a one timer. 1st time matchmaking it put me in a game and not him so i had to leave. 2nd game it put him in one and not me. 3rd game it puts us in a game finally but before the game can start we get a game configuration penalty and we get sent back. 4th time i get a failed to find oppent error and he gets in a game but again not me. 5th try the same thing happend. We settled on just playing each other and see who could get the more one timer chances to score and i cant say it was fun. It sucks spending 60 bucks on a game that you cant play and when you do its not even fun. I couldn't find any devs on the fourms commenting about this which is pretty sad but i was wondering if anyone knew any fixies so i could well....play

Hi there. Are you on Xbox? If so, do you use a custom gamerpic? If that's a yes, try swapping it out for a default gamerpic and see if you still have this issue.
Nah im on PS4
Have you power cycled everything yet? If not, try that with these steps: unplug your modem, router and console. After 2 minutes plug in the modem and router. Let them come back online completely. Then plug in your console and start it up. Let me know if that helps or not. Thanks!
This happened to me and my club buddies yesterday when in drop-in. Took a total of 6 hours for one game in which ended up being 2 players with A.I. after everyone quite. We all did router resets, and just wasn't a great night for games on PS4. Finding more users are playing LGHL instead this year as it feels more authentic. Drop-in is basically a ghost town at most.
How often are you getting that game configuration penalty? It's not one I've experienced myself, but I also don't play a lot of drop-ins. If I understand you right, you're getting an error that says game configuration penalty and it drops you back to the main EASHL screen?
With all due respect, this is a problem with your game and has nothing at all to do with his gamer pic or power cycling anything. This is an everyday occurrence that happens to everybody. Not a single day goes by where players in the same party are split into different lobbies while searching for a game. It happens every single day, and usually it happens 4,5,6 attempts in a row. You have game configuration errors, formerly known as dressing room errors, but rather than fix the bug your team just renamed it. Invalid sessions, user customization errors, error codes, and probably a few other common errors I'm probably forgetting. Fun times.
Happens 93% of the time in drop-in. Yesterday the game was skipping frames, for a bunch of us, and I have a digital copy also. Most times we also go to a black screen in both club and drop-in for us in the North Western area if we aren't hosting, and vice versa for a few of our guys from other regions. Been a problem since the BETA, and I have never witnessed any previous EA Sports NHL game having this bad of server stability.
Thanks for the details. I'll pass them on.
North America north west servers are horrid. I shouldn't have to connect to Portland as my closest location.

Doesnt matter. I play with about 25 ping on avg, but the fatman still happens, you can clearly see lag spikes in your players yet your ping meter never jumps. Also the times i do see lag spikes on the ea meter, ill look on my PC to monitor the connection and its showing smooth and steady. This game is broken plain and simple. The bad, slow, laggy gameplay happens in squad battles too so it seems to me its ea servers period. The game as a whole will lag, Slow menus etc but if i disconnect from the internet entirely, it goes away. They probably havent upgraded anything within the games code in years as far as this goes because the problem only seems to get worse.
Squad Battles require being connected, but the game is played on your console so there shouldn't be any lag. You just need the connection to send match data to our servers. I assume you're playing on a wired connection?

Yes its wired but honestly, play with game menus n stuff whike online. Now disconnect. Tell me the game as a whole isnt smoother.
I'm not quite understanding you. Are you saying while navigating the in game menus, you're being disconnected?
They change it after every season! I have been stuck at Level 1 all year because I barely play now due to this and the servers being absolutely horrid for us North Western users.

No. Im saying the entire game is slow and laggy, until you disconnect yourself. Then the game runs and loads smoothly. Being connected to the servers at all slows down EVERYTHING, including menus.
I don't have details on the speed of the menus. Yes, screens can take several seconds to load, but I haven't experienced disconnecting while navigating them. If that's happening, we should go through some troubleshooting. Let me know if you want to do that.

You're still misunderstanding. Im not saying i get dc. I'm saying while connected to ea servers, the game including menus run sloppy and laggy, but the second i yank that ethernet cable from my xbox and am no longer tied to ea servers, the game runs smooth as butter. That alone tells me your game servers are the cause of a LOT of this games problems.
I understand the slow menus. Even though it's several seconds between them, it adds up and when we don't instantly load into the next screen, it gets frustrating. However, in-game, the majority of people are not experiencing lag. There are a lot of different variables involved in everyone's connection. The game can play a lot different for someone in the same area, but on different equipment and with differing amounts of traffic on the same network. Our servers are only one part of this, but they are quick to get the blame. Even though most of the tests we get back show issues are beginning before reaching our servers. When there is a known issue, we post an announcement. So, when the majority of people are playing without lag, it means we need to individually troubleshoot the ones that are having it. If you'd like to go through some testing, let me know.
