Wow, just played first EASHL/Drop In

I took the game pass for a $1 deal to try out EASHL since once again they've forsaken Franchise, and HOLY COW!
What have they done to hockey?
Is this how people want to play hockey? It's too fast for its own good. It's terrible. I don't know what to call it. It's like everything is floating and ping ponging around.
I guess it's its own thing now, but I think it's a disgrace. The things I like about hockey are not present at all, but that can be said of any of the modes in this game. So, disappointing.

Isn’t it funny how they basically like threw shade at pre-TPS games for “floating” and “not being realistic” then tune 20-21 into a not fun version of those games? 09 floating paired with 21 incidental skate/puck contacts + seamless puck pickups = game speed that’s too fast for its own clunky animations which strips the fun/control out of 09 while using 09 speeds.

If you turn acceleration down to 0 offline, you can see how turning your hips at the wrong time or stepping up at the wrong time leaves you completely burned/turned around. I’m not saying 0 acceleration is the ultimate answer, but it shows that lowering acceleration creates more of a “skill gap” than 65 acceleration ever will. That’s just comically high and makes the game more of a reaction-based experience than a read-based experience. If I take a wrong step without the crutch of 65 acceleration I am burned. If I take a wrong step with 65 acceleration, I will still challenge the play easily as I will reach top speed before the carrier even has a chance to truly “breakaway” which is what all these LG “pro” clowns are always crying about which is why defense gets gimped every year.

They don’t even under The game they’re “pro” at which is nothing short of embarrassing. Pros should know their trade inside and out and it’s clear these guys know absolutely nothing about the game nor sport with the direction WoC/EASHL continues to go in.
  • I think one of the things this year's game has shown us is that the marketing department needs to rethink their slogan of "it's in the game".

Yes, I couldn't read much if anything at all. Luckily, playing as LD, I played with a couple of forwards who got in front of the defense to receive passes in our zone. Other than that, is was just Hustle Button to net the whole darn game.

The funny thing is though, as fast as it was, and as much reaction as it required, it was as boring as heck. I mean, I'm used to how the game is rigged. I know I'm going to poke-check the forward 4 or 5 times and he's going to keep the puck (especially if his team is losing) and we'll rinse and repeat this until the game is tied, buy my dear Lord, as soon as I adjusted to the speed (coming from offline, it was a bit of a jump) my brain turned off. No thinking required.
  • I think you're all insane.

The game is actually pretty awesome now. People just don't know how to control their skaters very well because they are bad players that refuse to adapt to new control methods.

The only thing ruining Drop-Ins/EASHL is people.

    Nope.

No one was talking about controlling the skater. Infact, untouchable_BF1outlined how the skill gap was reduced, made lesser, handicapped the weaker players, by the way things are tuned in '21.

The skaters are much easier to control. The problem is, the game is not hockey. It's bumper cars. It's fine if you like it, but as untouchable_BF1 mentioned, if they made the game more like real hockey, I bet you wouldn't understand it well enough to like it. If you think this is anything like real hockey, you don't understand the parameters of real hockey.

It’s not real hockey. It’s a video game. I agree with the post above this one. Community is a large part of the problem. The game can always improve. But if you want “real” hockey you gotta go to your local rink and get off your couch

This is a funny discussion and I see these havent changed.

Considering Ive been coming to these forums since before 2008, not a single thing has changed about the discussion.

This game is the most realistic NHL game to date.

Im sorry other then golf, tell us which sport is a "real based experience"? Your saying the game is reaction based, ummmm ya thats hockey and every other sport. Tied into see the full ice. Before the plays happen, taking away the highest probable play. I'm not sure what problems one would have when placing your body in the right position?

Discussion is about drop in...which everyone knows is a gong show and never going to represent anything close to a skilled game.
Let’s keep it on topic and not throw shade at anyone please.

Drop is more fun than club, that right there is an indication of a problem.

In club you just get try hard teams twirling around like ballarenas, cross crease cheese all day. If you take a lead against a good club there is a decent chance you will be lagged out by them for a dnf loss.

At least in drop in you can SOMETIMES find an even(ish) game with 2 squads that aren't trying to exploit their way to victory.

The problem drop in is people, but also gameplay. Both of which are entirely the fault of EA.

The topic of cross crease crap has been beaten to death on these forums and still no change.

The topic of playing with real jerseys in real arenas has been beaten to death on these forums, yet still no change.

The topic of punishing quitters, implementing features to reduce trolls and quitters has been beaten to death on these forums over YEARS, and you guessed it. No change.

The direction this game has taken is thoroughly depressing. They need to clean house and rebuild from the ground up. For real this time though.

Don’t forget the 12 player private lobbies that the majority want back.

It’s ridiculous how EA takes away things we like and adds things we don’t like. That’s the reason why the community is shrinking and people are playing less and less each year.

Something really needs to be done about the trolls and quitters. Just quit a game because of it.

Right from the opening face off our LD skates into the offensive zone and crashes the net. The 2-3 of us on the mics know right away this player is a troll.

I manage to get a breakaway but barely score because LD decides to interfere with me. 4 players on the opposing team quit.

So what does our LD do on the next play? Skates in on our G and scores. Then leaves the puck behind a couple mins later for the opposing team to skate in on an easy 2-0 on our G to score.

If we had a kick feature we could’ve kicked this loser but instead we all quit and lose RP because of this loser.

I took note of this troll and he’ll be shamed in every lobby I see him in like I do to all the other trolls. That’s why a “reputation” feature would be good. A simple +/- one would work. This troll would go down most likely -5 because the 5 of us would give him -1 each. Then put certain restrictions on him for being a minus rated reputation.

Or have some sort of flag system. During or after a game I can put a flag like green (good), yellow (average), red (bad) or a specific symbol to indicate trolls beside a players name so whenever I come across that player in a lobby I’ll easily be able to decide if I want to play with them or not.

What does “real based experience” mean? I never wrote those words lol. And of course hockey requires you to read AND react, not simply react. My point when I say this is (and this was already articulated but I’m willing to help you out further) at lower acceleration speeds, it requires you to read the play 2-3 steps ahead if you truly want to be in the best position and be successful, you know, just like high level hockey.

There’s a reason why 1st line players and 1st pairing dmen are there and 5th line grinders struggle to get into the lineup. One group of those players actually reads the play and anticipates what will happen 2-4 plays/moves ahead, the other group is told be the coach to keep it simple and slam people into the boards because they have skill but not much between the ears.

So back to my point, when acceleration levels are lower, you need to be conscience of your hips when skating backwards as opening your hips to the wrong side will end up getting you burned by a forward with speed like real life. Or if I’m the carrier and someone lines me up, stopping the doing an unrealistic power turn without momentum is also not possible and able to bail me out of a bad situation I put myself in.

So while I agree that this game can be tuned into the most realistic hockey game ever, and its a point I’ve made many times here, I don’t think the online meta is realistic nor taking advantage of the potential this game has.

I think you’re definitely right when it comes to online play. Club is just way too sweaty and boring. I’m trying to play “realistic” (try not to laugh) watch some guy spin in the corner for 10 minutes holding his stick out through the boards waiting to force some pass (fully loaded, auto-aimed, auto-sauced I should add) through a few defenders who can’t precisely move due to the air hockey acceleration speeds. Oh and because this game has progressed so much, I can even defend the same exact cuts and passes I was defending against the “pro” players in NHL 09.

The problem with drop-in though, is it takes forever to find a game, most games drop 3-6 guys after one goal, and the gear makes it almost insufferable to try and defend scrambles and other hectic situations. Beats playing club against the guys who get to dictate how this game should be played, but I really think we need an expansion of custom lobbies/sliders for OTP because I’d much rather jump into a game than have to create a club and play sweats just to play some decent 6s once in awhile.
