Hey guys, not sure if you've seen this, but I googled around and found a Linkedin profile of an EA software engineer who says this on his job description:

Platform and infrastructure
Working on: NHL Frostbite Migration & NHL22

  • Ohhh!

And if I understand, switching to frostbite will mostly/if not only, mean a boost to the graphic side of the game.

Which of course would be really cool!

Good find. I was trolling around for this a bit ago and found nothing.

I wish I were more excited about this BUT everything I have read about Frostbite indicates that the animation conversion process is a nightmare. The move to a new Engine would be fraught with difficulties and it's really not apparent that it will be of any real benefit.

Also, it's not like we are getting a "new" engine. The most recent iterations of FrostBite and Ignite are about the same age.

BTW: Looks like poor Jerry got a talking to: this no longer appears in his job description LOL

If you google Frostbite to see how it turned out for FIFA and Madden, the prognosis isn't particularly compelling...

I get why they want to unify under one engine for all games but as I understand it, FrostBite has not been kind to the sports titles... The Anthem team at Bioware also complained about its complexities.

  • Yeah there's probebly some obstacles in the way..

But I would much rather take the risk, by going over to frostbite, then to never tried it out or seen the visual differences.

I really like what I saw in that video. But will it effect the players movement/animations, I dont know..

    But I like this news.
  • Yay, more bugs.

Hehe hopefully - other - bugs, and not more...
  • This “unified” engine has made for worse games as far as I’m concerned, this is nothing more than a graphical leap for even, if not worse, gameplay. Unless of course the sliders actually work consistently in frostbite, then maybe I’ll consider it a win.

Yeah I thought of that. Maybe you (with everyone else) finaly gets functional sliders.

    Think of that Bf1! 😎👉

    I’ll cross my fingers lol.
  • I am hoping the transition wont be as bad as the NHL15 debacle but honestly people would do well to temper their expectations. I wont post any links but I will leave it up to you to google about the issues various games have had moving to Frostbite.

    LOL my apologies to Jerry!
  • I think the gameplay in Madden got better after they switched engines. This year's game has been a wreck but that's mainly to do with questionable gameplay decisions.

I'm glad NHL is going to the Frostbite Engine. I think the gameplay will be better at least. Hopefully not too buggy. No game is ever perfect.

Sounds good that thing about madden. In what way did you notice the improvements in gameplay, more smooth in a way?
  • Skeptical but at the very least we could trade in some long term problems for new long term problems. It least its a change.

Hehe exactly, thats the spirit! 😏

    Something new.
  • With Frostbite becoming a reality there is hope for a PC release in a couple years.

    Very underrated statement right here.

It's hard to say because at the same time that the Madden team went to the Frostbite engine they also decided to try to implement more of the fan requested gameplay features. So it's hard to say whether the game got better because of the game engine or the revamp of the gameplay. Possibly a combination of the two.

All right, thank you I understand.

For me personal, just the graphic look of the players, the crowd, the ice... Gooooals.. Maybe the net will look far more realistic when the puck hit the net... This all, will mean alot for my own experience.

So tired of this old 'engine', im so desperate that I even looking forward to see some new bugs.. Im ready for whatever frostbite will bring.

    😬✊

If they don't allow cross-play will it even matter?
