Okey, interesting thought. But can you explain it further?
If a good chunk of that HUT revenue comes from the top players who love the fast-paced-arcade style of hockey, then I would guess that is who is going to have the most influence on how the gameplay is in future games.

A bunch of the top players you see in GWC don't really spend that much money in HUT as they earn majority of their rewards and get tons of packs.
Also all the money that the NHL series makes off things like HUT doesn't all go back into the game. It is used for various things including other new projects/games and of course those pockets of investors.
Are we ever going to get NHL 22 news? You would think with next gen consoles and apparently frostbite they'd be excited to release news. It's the end of June you would think we would have heard something by now. I'm still not 100% sold were even getting an NHL game this year. It would be nice to know if I should be on the lookout for a PS5 considering how limited they are.

Game isn't coming out til late October/November. They got plenty of time to talk about the game. EA Play event is in July I believe so at earliest that is info.

Yeah as Follisimo already mention. I dont think elite have to put out that much money. It run by itself.
'Grinders' put out the cash. The once behind..
And ofc also people that just enjoy the game and feel it's worth a few bucks of your money.

Even when it was a sept release the info trickle didn't start until well after ea play. This year is an October release so I wouldn't expect anything until around mid August.

By way of tempering expectations... last year the first news we heard of NHL21 was July 20th. I do think we are in somewhat less unpredictable times this year so I am optimistic we will hear something earlier...
EDIT: Though with the confirmed Q3 release date (probably Oct 12) presumably the reveal will also be later. Not sure if this is now the new norm for NHL - getting an October release instead of September.
Historically - pre-covid at least - We got a preview at the NHL awards in June. Last year at EA Play in late June we got NOTHING. I recall the disappointment vividly.
EA Play has been pushed to July 22 this year so I would assume that we would hear something this time since it's around the time they released the NHL news last year.

This is from the CEO via the May 11th quarterly call:
"More than 20 million players played FIFA Ultimate Team in the last year, and FIFA Ultimate Team matches were up an incredible 180%. Madden. NFL had its biggest year ever, and games across our EA SPORTS portfolio continue to acquire more players than ever before. We'll now build on that strength with a massive year of innovation and expansion. All of our new EA SPORTS games in FY '22 are designed for next-gen console platforms including FIFA, Madden, NHL and EA SPORTS PGA TOUR, our return to golf that is set for Q4 of this year."
There haven't been any announcements on the next NHL game outside of that. Stay tuned for more news to come from official EA channels.
