NHL 22 - Same fat-man lag as always

Prev1
What the title says....In the past, If you have had fat-man lag/delay problems where your controller input doesn't work properly you will have much of the same this year. Warning...don't buy the game. Your experience will suck once again.

EA doesn't care enough to make the game work for everybody. If you need clarification what I'm talking about just look up my conversations from NHL 21.

Are you playing offline on PlayStation? We have a report of that here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Laggy-gameplay-on-offline-modes-PS5/m-p/10821519#M6

This was on the Series X through EA Play...HUT mode. It felt identical to the problems I have had over the years on XB1, XB1X, and PS4. Latency is the same upper 50s with a flat line. Charter Spectrum is pretty useless in resolving it too. They just blame it on your server every time.

I have Spectrum also in FLorida and they aren't the best at taking the blame for things. They tend to have poor routing.

Sounds about right. I check a route to the server and it seems by the IP that it's a lot of back and forth, and where I live I have exactly ONE option for internet, and nobody (EA or Spectrum) seems to give a backwards TIHS about what we have to deal with when we have NO other options.

How would you even get them to change the routing....or is that even possible??

Sadly it isn't really possible . But I very much feel it's a Spectrum thing when it comes to EA type games. Cause my connections are pretty much the same for all their sports titles. My brother lives like 5 miles from me and has ATT Fiber gigabit and it's great connections.
  • Seriously, this game is terrible when both EA and Charter won't do ANYTHING to figure out the problems. There's nobody left to talk to in order to get things resolved correctly.
  • Yep was smooth as could be the first few days. Now it’s the same as usual delayed garbage. Time to shelve the game for the year within the first week for the 3rd year in a row
  • Oddly enough, of the 7 rivals games I've played in hut, they've felt like the smoothest games I've played in years.

If you want to go through some troubleshooting, try putting up a post on the NHL 22 boards here. I'll try to help find out why you're lagging so much.

Maybe you guys there could put some pressure on the ISPs that can't figure out the best way to route your game servers to your players. I have 37 hops in mine. My final latency shows upper 50s, but a trace route shows a SINGLE HOP jumping from mid 20s to mid 50s while everything else looks very good. This is an ongoing issue, and I can't seem to get ANY resolution from EA or Charter Spectrum, and I don't have other internet options here. From what I can tell there is a SINGLE hop causing 30ms of lag, which is more than half of my total latency. NOT cool, and Charter will not even listen to me, and it's about the same with EA. I'm sure this game would probably be pretty kicka55 like back in the day, but EA and Charter don't want to make that happen.

  • I wish that all these people who have never had or experienced FATMAN LAG would because this time I’m most likely done with this game.. for the last like 3-4 EA NHL games I’ve had this.. it makes it unbearable.. I can barely control my player.. The worst part is most of the people on my team don’t even know what I’m talking about.. The worst part is that this randomly picks people to happen to I swear because it makes no sense why it’s happening to me all these years. People think I’m lying all the time when I talk about this. If I didn’t have this problem I would be a totally different player. It’s like playing with the five monkeys on your back. I’m absolutely sick of this and now I know that EA WILL NEVER EVER FIX FAT MAN LAG.. so badly I thought 22 would be different but that’s where I made a mistake..
always thinking EA is going to fix something. They literally never do.. I feel like the people working on NHL come into work like once a month. I can change my Internet provider I can change everything and I will still have fatman lag. EA needs to be sued.. it’s sad we can’t do anything about this.. I HAVE GIG SPEED INTERNET..380 modem/router… Series X.. great monitor.. but the one thing I want is for FATMAN LAG to never happen again to any of us.. they will never fix it unless they make a new game from scratch.. and we know you guys aren’t capable of making a brand new game.. you Gotta keep using the base layer you have used the last four years or so because you guys are lazy.. there are like three updates for the game a year tops if that. Tired of giving my time and getting nothing in return from you guys. And I dare you to say it’s something wrong on my end and not you guys.. you guys are terrible And need to be taken to court. Quit putting out the same game.

I appreciate the offer but I’ve put way too much energy and time into this over the years to waste anymore. I’ve lived in 2 different cities, gone through 3 different ISPs trying 1 gig internet, swapping to Fibe, different modems, all with no luck. I’ve had a completely new line run to my house from the node, as well as opening the ports needed for nhl and PlayStation.

I read 14 Ms on the in game graph and it’s basically flatlined at that, yet I feel like I’m playing on European servers the majority of the time.

This has happened since nhl 15 for me and that’s across Xbox one, ps4, and ps5 now. At this point it’s nothing more that I’m willing to spend trying to play the game

I mirror what this guy says, except I have a single ISP in the same house, and my latency reads in the mid-upper 50s most of the time. I don't have another ISP option here, nor do I feel like moving to "where the internet is" so to speak.

I have played on PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, Xbox One X, and now Xbox Series X since NHL 15, and it's an every-year problem for me. I'm putting the onus on EA at this point to do something because complaining to my ISP has been about as useless as the troubleshooting steps I have done for both EA and Charter Spectrum.
  • ......and in typical fashion, the folks at EA offer NOTHING to help out players with the same problems all of the time. (Can you hear the crickets?)
  • What the title says....In the past, If you have had fat-man lag/delay problems where your controller input doesn't work properly you will have much of the same this year. Warning...don't buy the game. Your experience will suck once again.

EA doesn't care enough to make the game work for everybody. If you need clarification what I'm talking about just look up my conversations from NHL 21.

Their network architecture is garbage and causing issues but they wont properly test or admit to it or they dont care or have budget to fix it....one of the above.

Its been like that forever and instead of acknowledging the issue and trying to find ways to reproduce / fix it, they just let it ride while giving you "troubleshooting tips" akin to "did you reset your modem, plug a rj45, did you check your internetz"

Yah Its my setup, you know, my setup at 2 addresses with several different xbox, cables, routers, modems, ISP, controllers ONLY in NHL and never in any other games, while at 20ping and almost every single time i play vs QC teams on the montreal servers. Its REALLY obvious its not an EA issue.

Also issue being described clearly as impacting passing, shooting, agility, hitting and speed and feeling like you are playing with a 40overall player against 99 overall opponents. Feels pretty much like a desync with server somehow where what you see is not what is actually happening. IE where you see a player you pass to is not where he actually is leading to inaccurate passes pokes at a puck that is not actually there, etc.

How many years must we go through this....who knows. I guess until someone else makes an NHL game that magically my internetz work with.

Yah but did you try to use an RJ45 and turn off your brain and turn it back on after 60 seconds? Cause it cant be EA!

out of curiosity, where about do you live? Do you play with the same people a lot and do they live in the same area as you or further away?

I've heard of several people from the Ontario province having issues with fatmanlag especially frequently when paired with Qc players. I personally play with 3-4 Qc Friend but am in Ontario and about 2 hours away from them. I get fatmanlag TONS and seems VERY consistant when playing vs other Qc Players. Impossible to win any faceoffs, passes go all over, impossible to poke while they are poke gods, hits bounce off, shots are less accurate, agility and accel are basically non existant. its pure trash.

Its 100% something with how they manage connections. I still think that one player is sort of a host. It was basically proven when they used to make a "random" person the Captain of the room a couple years ago when starting games and the same person was ALWAYS captain and the same other person if that first person wasnt there. So they did have a criteria to select a captain maybe based on ping? And guess what, I was captain like 99% of the time and I was having fatmanlag all the time. Why? I dont know. I can tell you that the hints are there but there is nobody savvy enough to know what to do with them.

Why would they have code to give the C to a specific player (no it was not alphabetical or based on jersey number) but have no host. Of course they will never share how they manage their transfer of data during games but its dead obvious to me that this is where the issue reside in some shape or form.
  • I have check the latency and ping on ps4 hockey and computer and the same time. I don’t care what any speech of your modem, of wired connection . My computer Pings at 13 and ps4 60’s

It’s always On your end, your connection your InternetAnd the same spiel I’m going through your connection crap

Same exact time I checked them

I have the exact same problem. Fatman lag in 90% of my games. Passes all over the place, sometimes it's like I'm not even controlling my player. I play this game almost daily. This has been happening since NHL15. I've had 5 different ISPs, and lives three different places, all the same. I've tried two different PS4s and Xbox 1. Each time it plays awesome for a few games, then goes to crap. I;ve tried port forwarding, static IP, etc. I've called and chatted with EA, every time they say they see "packet loss" but blame it in my ISP. It's clearly an issue with EA. So dang frustrating..........
