  • And as usual, the support staff will start seeing that the issue must be on EA's end and just stop responding to the post and hope it dies.

We're not responding because we really don't have anything else to suggest. We're keeping an eye out for any issues on our end and will update you all if any are discovered.

I appreciate the response but it really doesnt say too much. Keeping an eye out in your state where you do not face the issue for instance will never lead to anything. I just wish I could have one of your workers play from my xbox at my address and just see your face when you realize how **** your character feels one game and then feel like a rocket the next. Its mental. Its also why your current approach with the TPS is so problematic for many of us. The more sensitive the skating, the worse it is to handle your skater. The more sensitive the tripping, the harder to avoid with delay or desync. playing defense is a nightmare. Goalie is fine usually since it requires you to do practically nothing but sit in middle of goals. offense is less costly than defense but still makes it brutal to try and keep a puck and pass properly. Sadly, I play defense mainly....

So yah, unless you got staff in ontario who can try to reproduce and somehow monitor the connection and data transfer during a fatmanlag game (its not just a few minutes or seconds here and there as normal lag would happen, but a 100% full game at a time. From one game to the next you never know if it will be or not however)...whats even the point.

I say Ontario because thats where I am from and I know it happens frequently on Qc server (North east / Montreal which I am 2 hours away from) so I cant speak of other servers and whether they have issues or not.

I also know that during these games, the Qc guys on the other team are skating like mcdavids with the agility of...also mcdavid....and definitely do not have the fatmanlag at the same time as I do. So I know its not as if the server itself is failing and affecting everyone. So again, It seems to be how the data transfer to certain users is handled. The ping can be 22ms stable and still have fatmanlag so again, not ping related. If it was related to a bad hop or local transfer issue, it would show in traceroutes or pings. It does not. So to me, its how the server handles my connection at times. Why? god knows.

Anyways, waste of time i guess even bringing it up. its just frustrating after so many years.

So far, we're not seeing any issues with our servers. If there were, everyone would be experiencing it. You have to keep in mind, there's a lot more at play than just our servers. Those are the end point. Your data is sent through your networking equipment and then routed by your ISP through various servers. That's not something we have control over and frequently where the issue is. Also, the farther away from the server you are, the higher the ping. When I play on a north or northeast server, my ping averages in the 60s. When I'm on the central server, it's well under 50. Distance is always going to be an issue. Combine that with traffic on your network along with other traffic your ISP is handling as well as how your router is configured and it's very possible all of these are causing the lag.

When it comes to low ping, but feeling lag, that's also not something we can help with. If someone in the same area has the same ping and isn't feeling any lag, it's possible they're using different equipment or have less traffic on their network, or are being routed by their ISP better. Even though you feel the other team is zooming around while you're stuck in the mud, that doesn't mean they aren't feeling any lag. Unless you're playing in the same location, on the same network, you can't really know how their connection feels. I get how that makes someone assume the problem is on our end though.

Our servers are heavily monitored and when issues arise they are very quickly investigated. We make an announcement about any downtime as well. When we try to troubleshoot, we get a very large amount of pushback and accusations that we just want to push the blame elsewhere. This isn't true in the least. We want you all to be able to play without lag and do all we can to make that happen. When we try, it frequently becomes a very frustrating experience on both ends due to the refusal to believe something other than our servers could be the issue.

I still believe there is a glitch with your code that causes the issue somehow. Its 1+1 to me.

Could be my network, but my network completely changed multiple times over the years (ISP, routing, Router).
Could be my ISP, but my ISP changed 3 times over the years including DSL and Cable.
Could be my house wiring but I changed house and had the same issue.
Could be my xbox but I had 3 xbox including last gen where this was happening too.
Could be wireless but I am not using anything wireless (controller or network)
Could be my router despite changing router 3+ times and always facing same issues, but I tried connecting xbox straight in modem and same issue.
Could be modem but modem changed several times and always disable the router portion of the modem.

And if it was something else that I cant possibly comprehend based on the above, why is it only in NHL that I have issues? of the dozens and dozens of online games i play, I NEVER had ONCE an issue outside of NHL. From rocket league to call of duty to street fighter to nintendo switch games to other Xbox games to PC games.

Now add to this the fact that the issue is one full game of NHL at a time from start to end. Its either a perfect game where I feel like Mcdavid or a fatmanlag game where I feel like Cheechoo. Not just part of the game but the entire session. Also add to that that stuff like passing is inaccurate when this happens, that shows to me that somehow my client gets desynced with the server. Who manages sync? your netcode. Add to this that it MOSTlY happens when I get games on Qc servers although thats harder to determine for 100%, I just go by the amount of times I play vs qc players (french names).

Other people have reported being in ontario and having the same issue when using the North East servers. So is it a weird issue with connections received from Videotron (Qc Cable service) and Rogers (ontario cable service) somehow the netcode not handling the info well? I wish I had more network architecture knowledge so I could fix it for you, which is what I do for 99% of the technical issues I encounter in my life.

The biggest problem in most IT places is the "It guru" that does not challenge himself when a new issue is brought up. I've been the top troubleshooter at Bell Canada for years before changing field of work and I have seen countless self proclaimed tech gurus who will tell you an issue is "impossible" and I had to go figure out the solution and share it with the helpdesk myself. When your gurus dont want to l earn anymore and think they know it all is when they get grandfathered and need to be changed.

  • Lol this is why I’ve cut my losses and moved on. There literally is not another game out there that I have ever played where the connection handicaps you as bad as it does in this game.

You can’t have a high speed game that requires split second decisions and have lag, it just doesn’t work. On top of that having just unrewarding gameplay where you outplay your opponent to the point of embarrassment and game mechanics just work against you ON TOP of the lag.

100% nothing more than just pure frustration during your whole experience playing

I like how you say "if it were a problem with our servers everyone would be experiencing it".......There are a LOT of people who are, just do a Google search for EA Sports NHL lag.

When I first dowloaded NHL22 it played awesome, every game, for about a day. I was so hopeful that the lag issue was fixed that I was seeing in NHL21 and prior. After a day lag started to creep in, about every other game. At the moment, after playing for a couple of weeks, it's every. single. game. It's worse than ever. Please do some actual work to resolve the problem instead of immediately dismissing everyone's complaint about this and saying "MuSt beE yUr IsP"!!

Same thing every year, week one starts out great, then patches roll out and the lag continues to get worse as the year goes on
  • It's also a bit unnerving when you put a lot of time and money into HuT and deal with this ALL THE TIME
  • I'm in south west ontario and constantly matched with teams from quebec. the lag is so frustrating to play with, my ping is usually in the low 20s and still have lag. It's pretty much to the point where online play is not enjoyable and offline is the only option
  • Came here to report the same experience. In the loading screen, the connection will say good. Then the game starts and I can tell the game is gonna be whack when the camera stutters zooming in on the initial face off.
  • It really makes you wonder **** does EA do in these patches. Game felt GREAT first couple weeks. It’s awful now. There’s so much input delay, it’s literally unplayable. It’s not even a lag thing. Has nothing to do with lag. I have less than 15ping every game. It’s just the input lag. From controller movement to ea server recognizing what controller binding I’m utilizing. What a joke of a franchise.

We're currently gathering account examples from those experiencing input lag in our NHL 22 forums below. I'm going to close off this discussion so players that need help with this can see this last response.

    Please report issues here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Input-lag/m-p/10917717/highlight/true#M844

Thank you in advance for the support.
