Hitting and balance

I know there is a new system that includes low speed hitting as well this year, but for some reason toe dragging the puck behind you while turning still seems to shrug off a lot of hits unless you have a ton of speed.

To me it seems backwards, twisting around and holding the puck behind you should make your balance much worse and you should be very easy to push off the puck. That should only benefit you from avoiding poke checks, not hits.

  • Yeah. At higher levels of competition, all people do all game long in the offensive zone is hold the puck all the way behind them (pulling the RS down to 5:30 or 7:30, depending on the skater's handedness) and twitch around the zone. Stick lift is obviously nerfed, so you can't use that. Poke checks always miss the puck when the stick is back there, and hits are generally ineffective, unless you're able to charge at them. Makes for a very frustrating experience.

Yup! With it harder to force passes through defenders, now you've gotta twist your way to the PowerPlay to earn those automatic 1-timer scrum-draw goals.
