Examples of HUT suspected balancing engine

Replies

  • So, what if 2 equally skilled players match up, other one has starting pack team, and other has TOTY team with loads of synergies. Should there be some balancing or the weaker team just get completely slaughtered? This is an extreme scenario, just wondering what people think.

From my experince, there definitely is a balancing factor in HUT, just go in online versus and take a match between NHL All Star team and AHL team for example. AHL team is quite surely going to get blown out if players are about equally skilled.

There's a bigger disparity in the versus example you provide. Nobody would last in division 1 with an AHL team unless they were insanely good, and everybody in division 1 can easily throw together a team of 86-87+ players just from the pucks they get from winning and advancing divisions.

It seems a lot of people think their 90+ rated players are training wheels that can make them win without them actually playing well. A player who’s better than most would have similar results running 50 games with a team of 86s, then doing the same with a ridiculously stacked team. It comes down to how you play the game.

This is ridiculous also...we aren't supposed to be talking about ice tilt on this forum. There is no way you can prove this being a real thing. Whenever I upgrade my team it plays better. This is just people trying to justify their loses. When the fact is you simply lost to someone who is better than you. Possibly even lost to someone who got a few lucky bounces that's hockey though.
  • @eyebrowz84 Fair enough. But yet again the question arises, why does this not occur (atleast with the same frequency) in VS. or EASHL?

Making an invisible slider for AI related to the teams stats would not be an all to difficult task. Say that team A has an average stat of 85 and team B 92, then team A's AI gets a 15% boost. I could see that being easily implemented. It would also undermine the whole point of teams being Ultimate.

Kinda where we are now, I suspect.

EASY? WHAT IS THE ONLY MONEY MAKING FEATURE IN THIS GAME TO MAKE MATTERS INTERESTING FOR LESSER PLAYERS, OR GIVE THEM INCENTIVES?

This is a clever way of dancing around the "ice tilt" debate. I truly believe there is an unfair advantage, but mainly thats because of the response time/lag. If you're on the short end of the "tilt" stick your game experience will be slower, reaction time will feel like a second slower, your opponent will "appear" to be faster than you, but all in all, it comes down to your connection with the opponent.

What I will say is that my very fast team with team wheel on and a ton of speedsters is not any faster than when it was just regular player... In fact I find Steve Sullivan to be very low for his stats while my Bobby Hull (that was pack luck) can deke through anybody.

I can't tell for sure this year but it's weird, in previous years tho no doubt there were a balancing engines I've lost a game with 44 shots to 3 after all (12min of attack vs 30 seconds, 2 goals in my own net)

The people that state balancing doesn't exist either have poor recognition skills or exploit the hell out of the game. There could also be a hidden streak/slump/morale attribute that screws you if a bunch of your players slump at the same time. And why are there team star ratings and salaries?

If I ran EA I wouldn't want anyone to ever be satisfied with his ultimate team because that would help to eliminate any desire to buy a pack.
  • there is no doubt ea sports HAS ICE TILT involved in this game. i have plenty of examples to list but i would run out of characters. ANYWAY, that is the least of their problems as this entire game is flawed once again and these people could give 2 **** about it, as long as people continue to buy packs. thats how theyll continue to make their money. STOP BUYING PACKS PEOPLE, MAYBE THEN EA WILL LISTEN
  • I don't believe balancing exists. I do believe there's a catch up engine - when you're winning by 2+ goals, you might let in a soft goal or get an AI penalty. Also, late in the game more shots go in. But that's not balancing in the way people are describing here (stacked teams weakened versus less-stacked teams before the puck drops).

No to all of this. Writing this won't change anything. This game gave you everything you asked for and yet all you do is complain still. Make packs better give us draft champions give us this give us that. All you do is cry and complain if I was a developer I would laugh so hard Everytime I read these forums, which they don't read them, because you are all entitled little babies.

The problem is most of the people who play this game aren't smart enough to see these things. When you're spending an entire game running and gunning down the boards, dangling around the offensive zone with one player, and throwing the puck out with your goalie past two defenders, you're not really the target demographic for "proper hockey".

These people don't notice blown defensive assignments. They don't see the AI crossing each other up and leaving one side of the net completely abandoned. They lack the comprehension to understand why the pass they just rocketed through three defenders SHOULDN'T have gotten through cleanly. You just end up with garbage on top of more garbage.

And then they'll tell you to look at the scoreboard...because naturally, that's the only thing that matters. Who cares if sticks are passing through body parts, or people are defying physics to maintain possession of the puck. We are literally playing a game where your stick will pass through the boards and cause you to fan on a slap shot. And it has been this way for YEARS.

This game is broken and it won't be fixed until it's rebuilt from scratch by a new development team. The current team is not capable of doing any better. They've proven that by now.

Great post. Tape to tape backhanded passes with no backswing are also considered realistic by the NHL team's standards.

I don't call them EA anymore; I call them the NHL team, because comparisons to the Madden team for example are like night and day.

  • Skill gap compression. This is why the physics change based on momentum. It's accountability that's the issue. One player bounces off checks the other gets beat and the ai can nudge them off the puck. This game was made for casuals plain and simple. Skill usually prevails but they made it's so predictability random that any shot regardless of quality or location can go in. Hut game play feels very arcade like this year. The base line for the game is fine until the puck has a will. When the puck has a will accountability and the physics go out the window. This game is real easy when you can bounce and fumble the puck from one end to the other and somehow find yourself maintaining possession despite reality and end up one on one with the goalie.

All I see is more crying and people trying to justify their loses...
  • How is this thread not locked...
  • Because it's a real concern...

I mean it's not normal to lose 40% of the games you dominate (as in 2 times more shots and/or 2 times more TOA)... 20%, maybe but 40%? no.

Screenshots with proof over 50 games of this happening plus video to prove you're taking quality shots, please.

Because all the good mods are in the General Discussion. I haven't seen a dev here in years either.

This isn't of concern and this is such a stupid thread... I know when I lose a game it's my fault. TOA and SOG don't matter if you are taking quality chances. You have to ba able to tell a difference...

I will say this though there are odd goals every once in awhile but that's hockey
