    1st goal:

Should be easy save but since the goalies are not 100 on all attributes sometimes they don't catch **** like that. It's part of the randomness that should be in there. You D man wasn't first to take rebound so your D has to be more on track of opposing offensive players. There's offensive guy is alone in front of the net and there happens to be a rebound and they get the puck first.

    2nd goal:

Should have been called interference. that's a bad goal

    3rd goal:

If you see someone having so much open space at the blueline you better be ready for the shot and press R2 when the shot is fired.. Believe it or not but sometimes 5 holes go for real goalies as well. Being in the right spot doesn't guarantee save % of 100.

    4th goal:

That is strange angle shot and an animation bug. Nothing to do with the goalie. If the player would have been other way around slapshot from that distance would have VERY high percent of going in.

    5th goal:

You are making minor move to the side when the shot goes off which makes it harder for the goalie to take it. I KNOW it should be quite easy even tho you are moving but as soon as you learn that moving in situation like that is bad the better off you'll be. Also if you have problems with auto covering the puck put it to manual. Also you are way too much out of your crease and if there would been a pass to the side you would have been way exposed.

    6th goal.
Great job avoiding the puck. You are literally dodging it the other way.

    so in summary:

2nd and 4th goal has nothing to do with goalie animations.

1st,3rd,5th and 6th are your mistakes. well first is defenders mistake but anyways.

If this is how people **** and moan about "GARBAGE GOALS **** EA". Then you better just learn how to play.

SURE garbage goals happen rarely even tho you defend well and position yourself correctly but more often than not it's your and your defenders fault. Kinda fed up explaining people how this game works.

You do realize this is the AI goalie, right?

Considering he managed to dissect every mistake you made in G, I don't think he does.

I feel like with good defense the scores this year have been much more realistic than 16.

No way. At least in 1v1 modes, many more goals are scored this year, and the weak goalies are a part of that. Horrible rebound control, weak on unscreened shots from blue line, and an incredibly high number of own goals or just weird garbage in the crease. And they're still much better against point-blank one-timers than anything else.

Sometimes it feels like as much as half the goals that happen are just due to random chances like you mention. I don't mind getting beat by a team that's clearly out working me, but some of the goals are the equivalent of this, but they happen way more often:

Didn't even consider that since it's EASHL lol.

Don't play with AI goalie problems solved.

This right here are why these forums and this community are awful. The entire point people were making are that AI goalies are bad, and should probably be better. Then you have people like this who's entire argument is "well just don't use AI goalies, problem solved" that's literally not solving anything. It's ignoring the problem. User goalies are just as bad if not worse btw. I haven't seen a user goalie consistently steal games. Every single user goalie has been burned and has let in a horrible goal because they couldn't control their goalie properly. When people are discussing ai goalies, why they're bad, and how they could be better, if your only input is "just let that dumpster fire keep on burning and ignore it" you're providing absolutely nothing to anyone.

No, no. Tell us again how this game works, please. It's always good to listen to someone post complete nonsense, and then act self-righteous about it.

Better yet, how about you just don't post for a month, in penance for being simultaneously incredibly obnoxious and completely wrong at the same time?

I'm really fed up with people explaining how this game works who actually have no clue at all how this game works.

It's utterly useless advice, and more important, it has nothing to do with the game EA has built. 1v1 modes are the foundation of this series. It's what most people play, and it's where nearly all the money EA makes off this game comes from. For that matter, most people who play EASHL don't play 6s. So the AI -- not just goalies, but also players in general -- is crucial to the experience most users of this game will have. If the AI is terrible -- as it is this year -- then the game is going to feel terrible, too.

  • I agree with the OP but I wish I didn't. I was really hoping this would be a good year. It's just become too frustrating to play. I'm already playing less and less and it's only been 1 month since release. I'm sick of battling the controls, sick of outplaying teams in EASHL and HUT/VS but still losing. I see people saying AI goalies are terrible but why are there so many games where I'm dominating my opponent but their goalie is stealing the show, while my goalie is a complete ****.

I played a game of draft champions yesterday. I had Joseph, the opponent had Holtby, from puck drop I was all over this guy. My buddy was watching the game and couldn't believe I hadn't scored yet. My opponent scored in the last minute of the 1st, the stats after 1 period were 13-3 in shots. I had 4:35 in TOA and he had 0:37. I had 76% passing or something and he had less than 50%. I out hit him and lost only one face off. He then scored another goal in the first minute of the 2nd. Anyway I lost the game 3-2. The whole game was a battle of me vs Holtby, gameplay wise I was strategically murdering my opponent but I lost 3-2 because of Holtby and Holtby alone.

The game has just become so inconsistent, it's too frustrating to play. The first 3 weeks of release all of my buddies were online every night. Now, only 1 or 2 each night. It's so crazy EA has let this series get this out of hand.

Just remember that when 18 and 19 come out.

I skipped 16 man. I did buy 16 but I was able to sell it for a decent price at the time after playing it for 2 months. I've learned not to trust my experience from the beta, I never played the 16 beta so I wasn't tricked like I was this time around.

What's next for the advice on this forum? Maybe I get a flat tire, so I should just sell my car. Problem solved, no more flat tire. This is life changing stuff right here.
  • This game is a massive turd. I don't know even where to begin. Its all so frustrating but I think defence might be the root of it. It takes 3 players to knock the computer off the puck and even after he is finally down, flat out on the ice, your players still will not take possession of the puck. 3 players to knock down the computer, afterwards 2 will skate away to some useless area of the ice and the one guy that stays will be on the weak side and computer will get up and get the puck back.

    This thread, in a nutshell:

    "This is my opinion"

"Nope. Wrong. My opinion is the right one."

"Wrong. This is actually how it's supposed to be..."

"Agreed, but only on one thing. Your opinion is wrong about everything else"

    So on, and so forth.

Cool, so what do we do about it? Maybe we need something like an arbitrator, but less contentious. I think the word I'm looking for is "moderator".
  • total agreement with OP, and thank you to nickythewop for posting those AI EASHL goalie clips.

Some of this game has been improved quite a lot, im really enjoying the offensive zone cycling this year. Working the boards and behind the net has never been this smooth.

But games arent decided by Time on Attack, theyre decided by the score, and the score in NHL17 so rarely has any correlation to the game going on on the ice.

Soft wristers from the blueline are deciding games. Rebound control needs to be affected by the difficulty of the save. If its a no effort save, there should be no chance of the free rebound goal.

of the 5 goals in my last game,
2 were skated into the goalie
1 was a Shovel snipe (neither backhand nor forehand) bad angle.
1 was forehand-backhand-shot from terrible angle
1 was a shot off an offensive players pants that fell to his stick for the easy goal

None were from the offense creating something.
None were from the defense making an error.

The Quality of goals in this game is the worst i've seen. The cross crease tap in days were better. The skate down into the corner and then across the goalie days were better. They were created, and the defense failed to stop them.

It's kind of embarrassing that you had to start your sentence off like that, and the month of October isn't even half way completed. The games been out officially for what now, 30 days? I honestly hate to have to talk about the negative things when it comes to the game because there are some great additions, but they're completely and utterly overshadowed by the bad parts.

One of my favorite things they've added is the changes to Auto-Zoom for EASHL. I used to always turn that feature off, so I may be wrong in thinking this is the year it chanhed, but it adjusts where your camera is focused on for you so that you don't have to keep hitting the touch pad to switch from your player being the focal point, to the puck being the focal point. It basically does it for you now and works great when playing with the Overhead camera angle.
