I can't believe the patch didn't address this hilariously bad issue...
not my video, but I've had it happen / be a problem:

As a software engineer, I'm normally defensive of the complaints about EA's devs, etc... but how did this get past QA, let alone past a patch? Who's working over there?

Also the fact that this issue only crops up once you get far enough in an EASHL Club which I doubt any tester would've been able to get to before the game launched.
this happens even without the hat addon - it happens with every single entrance item you can get AND even without them (the flag is in the way, just to a somewhat lesser extent).
Literally all it took to spot this was playing an EASHL game in any arena besides the very first one, using the classic camera. that's it.
Does that mean there IS no problem or that it's not important? No. I never said that. However, I kinda see why something like that would slip between the cracks as opposed to something like... EASHL games crashing before they load.
Please stop making excuses for them
This is the same dev team that allowed clubs to be locked out, the same goals to go in every time, **** anyone who plays goalie or defense (the top 100 averages a 4.00 GAA), their servers are the worst in any game I've EVER played, etc.
This game is a travesty. They can't get little, medium, or large issues taken care of. They're the most incompetent group I've ever seen. It amazes me how they all still have jobs
I never said that makes it 100% ok. It's something that obviously needs to be fixed.
You're right, but take it from someone who makes video games, you're also incredibly wrong
1st: Theres a finite development time in hours, period. If you cant properly allocate time to properly fix your game, you failed as a developer. If your features are buggy then STOP ADDING FEATURES AND FIX THE BUGS. Thats literally the first thing they taught us at school
2nd: Game testers dont actually test the progression of the game. Testers absolutely had access to 100% of the stadiums, 100% of the time. If they didnt, then EA failed in their duties to debug their game. The fact you're saying "an issue that would necessitate you playing for a VERY LONG TIME in order to unlock the ability to put props up in an arena" shows you dont how how testing a game actually works. If this is an actual explanation of the problem, then EA is incompetent. There is 0 reason not to give your testers actual access to your game. Testers arent their to play the game like me and you, their job is to SPECIFICALLY and THOROUGHLY stress the game in all situations to see where bugs arise
I know how testing works. Tester don't just get the game and are told to "find the bugs". They're given SPECIFIC SCENARIOS and see if the game breaks under stress. One tester might be given the totally enjoyable task of taking his player and ramming him into a particular part of the boards to see if he gets through. One tester might be told to "have fun" pressing all buttons while in the options menu to see if the game locks up.
Now of all the hundreds of GAME BREAKING scenarios they'd have been given to test the game, I doubt "Skate around the arena with PROPS hanging from the rafters to see if they block the camera" would've been part of the list. It just doesn't happen that way. Testing prioritizes issues that could BREAK or LOCK UP the game, not things that OBSTRUCT your view... Maybe it was part of the things they needed to test and they just didnt' get to it because they ran out of time before they could get the more mundane tasks in their list?
Look, I'm not saying that it's ok that this bug made it through. In an ideal world NO BUGS make it through into the final product, but this is not an ideal world is it? And to be honest, something like the props getting in the way of certain camera angles is pretty tame when compared with things like the game failing to load during Drop-in games or the goalies/players getting stuck in an animation. Heck, how are the in game menus still so UNRESPONSIVE after so many years now? Like, that doesn't even take testing, just using the game and you see how bad the frickin menus are!
Last night my club played a game against a team that had a HUGE prop (a devil's head) hanging from their rafters. None of us experienced any issue with visibility. Although one of us was experiencing lag issues almost all night until it just cleared away on its own. And trust me, that's not an issue you can make go away by changing the camera angle.
So I'm with you that it's an issue that needs to be fixed. But it's not something that I'm sure the devs or testers would have necessarily seen during development.
Then you're not familiar with how proper QA test plans are written or executed.
It's fine. We'll agree to disagree. You find EA's QA process to be excusable here - many of us don't - some of us with relevant industry experience.
If it's anything like any other Quality Control at any other industry, then yes.
I work as a Computer Technician and we have a QC list of things to do before the computer is handed to the customer. Things like checking if the sound works correctly. Making sure the drivers are installed and there are no conflicts. Testing out the media drives (if there's any). Making sure the system powers on normally from both a hard and soft boot status (this is done several times). And that's just a few of the things we check for.
But then the customer takes the system home and he installs a software that crashes the system...
Why? Because sh*te happens. And as much as we'd like to, we can't test for everything.
Once again for the peanut gallery; I didn't say it was ok for this bug to be in the game, just that I can sort of understand how something like this could've passed under the radar.
Are you a game developer?
This argument is invalid because you don't have to unlock them in the Team Creator. You can create a team and test the features that way. That takes literally an hour. You don't have to go through unlocking it in EASHL.
The customization is nice but there are still some issues with that too which is unacceptable. Goal songs are way too quiet compared to the horns for an example. No highlight section to see what you're changing on the jersey which is a minor issue but still one none the less.
I agree that's not even 1% of the games issues but something so minor and so easily fixable still remains is pretty funny. It's like how they had the Caps helmets as BLACK instead of Navy for YEARS. Heck, they even messed up the Penguins jerseys in regards to the shade of yellow. They had it right in the beta but somehow changed it?? Hilariously bad.
It could just come down to bad developers who don't know or don't have the necessary experience to make a ideal game. Probably because the NHL budget is so low, I wouldn't be surprised if they use fresh out of school programmers based on the fact that they know this game just doesn't sell despite all their profits coming from hut.
If you know about programming, I have some sorts with java, is that not two programmers are going to write the same code while looking for the same result. So for the menus being so slow and unresponsive, it could be that these programmers are just not up to snuff when it comes to programming a current gen video game.
The thing is, as I've said about two programmers being different, is that an experienced programmer will write 10 lines for a menu and it will be efficient, while an inexperienced programmer will write completely different code to do the exact same thing, but his is 25 lines and the CPU takes longer to digest and to respond to that. So in a sense, an inexperienced programmer could bottleneck a game. I'm not saying that is what's happening, but you never know.
So if they still can't get quick moving responsive menus in ps4 and Xbox one, I just think they don't have experienced programmers to do this job. And that inexperience leaks into other areas of the game, hence the camera issues...etc.
uh, no. I play defense. I want to use the classic camera.
Why would I expect features added into a game to work correctly? Really? that's a pretty funny question...
