Why I Don't Buy Packs With Money

Replies

  • If people keep buying packs even though the product is far from perfect, what motivation does EA have to put more resources into the game, or trying to improve it? They know it's never gonna be as big as FIFA or Madden I expect, so for as long as investment X brings in the sum of Y, they're content?

What would happen if people stopped buying packs? I dunno, they might make a better game, or they might drop it altogether, who knows? This game's management doesn't make much sense to me anyway, except for the greed.
  • I quit buying packs and started playing VS. Sure you aren't playing with your ultimate team but the game plays much more fluid and consistent. Even Gamechangers say HUT feels "off".

If you are waiting for a perfect game, settle in, the wait will be long. This game is far from perfect but it is still fun to play. As a die hard hockey fan, I support EA as much as I can because if this game goes away we have nothing. If people stop buying packs, this game goes away. If their profit margins drop below a certain point (no idea what that is) over a couple of years, this game goes away.

If people stop buying packs, HUT will be no fun to play as the market would dry up and anything available would be way over priced. My first year in HUT (2012) I easily spent over $1000. Over the past couple years though I have been more picky with when I buy packs. I dropped a couple hundred and change week 1 and then bought a few and plan a few more MOV packs (about $200). That will be it for my cash purchases this year. Not over the top IMO ($500) because I can afford it and enjoy my time spent playing the game. The last time I went out on the town I spent over $240 for the wife and I to eat and another $150 at the bar and had nothing to show for that but a headache.

I absolutely feel that if you can not afford to spend any real money on this game it can be really dangerous. With this point system now it is a bit difficult to keep an eye on how much you are spending. Of course, EA are going to be greedy, what company doesn't want to make as much profit as they can?

There are many things that can be fixed but this game is still fun if you don't take it too seriously. Those that are putting the call out to boycott all purchasing of packs better be careful what they wish for unless they are prepared to be without any form of a hockey game to play. I guess you can always dig the old NES out of the basement and fire up Blades of Steel but spoiler alert, it is not nearly as good as you remember...

The movie etc. analogy kinda falls down because with those forms of entertainment, you at least get what you paid for. And if you follow things even a bit, you know which movies will suck, so you can avoid them.

In HUT the 'enjoyment' gained is directly related to the pulls you get, and you don't know what you get in advance. But the odds are against you.

The "enjoyment" gained is unique to each person then because I don't care at all about pulls I jus

I've spent more than $1500 on HUT packs and they don't listen to me or care if I leave. The people who run and work at EA Hockey are obviously the stupid ones in the EA employee family. I'll bet the FIFA and Madden people make fun of the NHL ****.
  • lots of valid points here, i agree with some of them. but if there are enough people that are willing to spend over a $1000 on a hut team, it only promotes those kind of players to the game, everyone should have a fair chance at the best cards in the game without large amounts of money to acquire... regardless if thats how you people choose to spend your money... it doesnt affect me, it only shows that EA can screw people into spending a lot of money and them get away with it.... eventually there will only be a few thousand gamers that will be interesting in playing HUT.. i guess if that what EA wants..

    Jesus.
  • How would you want hut ran if there wasn't cash involved to make it fair.

ha I thought my $pending was excessive

i would like them to reward gamers for playing the game.... not to mention buying the game... HUT nowadays all about buying your team... not earning it.. cheaper packs would be the simple fix... let 30,000 gamers have an unbelievable teams not only a couple hundred... its call "ultimate team" not mediocre team. i don't know why i keep posting on here, but i guess i'm trying to be heard.... i have sold my coins and no longer own the game... its just disappointing cause i love playing hockey on ps4, but EA has the only NHL game.. so i guess i don't play NHL
  • I don't understand how 'cash involved to make it fair' works, but on the other hand I don't see EA dropping their money making machine any time soon. :#

But I guess troychwaluk is not so much saying they should stop selling packs, but that they should start rewarding players for playing games more. Better rewards, and more to do than just grind the divisions.

Of course, what's really needed is rewarding good hockey some how. But that would require that good hockey worked in HUT as well... I hear the upper divisions are pretty dire with their glitch-masters, this isn't anything new of course.

  • exactly... make it more like madden mobile... lol

how does a mobile game have better modes than a console game?

    make challenges:

    1) down by 1 with 5 minutes left in 3rd.. need to come back and win in OT on SUPERSTAR
** win a free gold pack

that kind of stuff... right now all we get is a measly 1200 coins per game (if you're lucky) ... that's terrible
  • I guess some of you weren't around when you would only get 600 coins a game. In all fairness it is easier to acquire a better team faster with increased coins per game but ultimately it means nothing in this new "synergy" day n age because special cards have multiple synergies making them more valuable and more expensive.

Let's not kid ourselves. This mode is nothing more than a cash grab that feeds on people's gambling addiction, greed, and desire to have an advantage on the opponent. Every year packs get more expensive but the mode is more and more broken. Apparently there is a bug in Single Player Seasons that whenever you play a DC game, you get a loss in your SPS. But it's all good, let's drop another $1500 on packs.
  • Well Madden in general has a better ultimate team design. You can actually complete sets for insane cards without putting money into the game. There are also those single player challenges that reward you with players I want those in hut! Even if it is a boosted Brandon Saad or pastranak let's see it! Give us rewards for playing!

One could say draft champions does just that. Then update the players within it. Give us more op free agents/retired players that you have the rights to. Technically they have the rights to datsyuk but they don't put him in the game at all! Thank you Arizona for being a contract dumpster.
  • I think getting a boost for a player would be cool, but everyone complained about boosted players. In all honesty, it seems this community is all about complaining. Last year everyone said they wanted better players. EA gave us that and now it's everyone has a loaded team. I am enjoying this setup with the sets and synergies. I'm playing players for synergies who I would never play otherwise.

Now I've never played madden UT or fifa or mlb. So I don't know what they're about. I'm not sure what you get for doing what. More rewards would be cool. Tournaments, leagues, special games etc would be cool.
CAN'T wait to see who comes out tonight
  • Maybe there will be a datsyuk movemeber!
  • brooooooooooooooo stop ittttttt
  • Just pulled skinner and subban in back to back packs. Holy fack!

So lucky 10 packs 0 mov 0 collectible. Got reg shneider, bishop, and mcdavid. that is all. and 60k quicsell. bought 3 collectibles and finished parayko at least, bit what a waste.
  • It was a rough go for me too. As I said before I pulled Burns last week and that was it. I opened 2 last night and got 1 collectable. Did 5 today and had nothing until last 2 packs. I wanted skinner as his 2 synergies fit perfect. Subban doesn't hit other than HH, but I'm gonna put him in anyway and give him atry. He's bound to get an upgrade or 2
