My theory is that it matches you based on raking and how many stars your team is.

Unless it just happened, Before the update, I was getting matched up against a lot of scrub teams I shouldn't be playing

No it does not at all. I face teams way better than my 86 - 87 overall team. I got 3 games in a row last night where my opponents team was all Kane, Ztterburg, Lindros, Tarasenko, Hall, Burns, Subban etc. So now I think it's a coincidence.

Yesterday I played a team in which the two worst players had 93 overall. The rest had 94.

I was in div 7 and had played with my starter packs in div 9 and 10 and then bought a new team for like 30 000 pucks. Not really the same level as my opponent
