I have brought this up in the past; one has to ask: exactly what issue are we trying to address here?
Because almost consistently there are different messages:
1) "I want a meaningful progression system that allows me to customize my player to my playing style."
2) "I need more of a reason to play than just the game itself and unlocking meaningless cosmetic items"
3) "I feel I should be rewarded with strategic advantages for playing better/more than other people"
I dont think the solution to all these things is to necessarily bring back the old card system. Discuss.
The great thing about classes is, nobody is at a disadvantage.
You know who or what team is better, there's no
"Well they are all LEG 3, that's why they won."
I personally don't need a carrot to chase, if they keep expanding on the club unlocks and customization, well...even better.
Club isn't dead because of the lack of customization of our individual players. Club is essentially dead because of the increasing popularity of online leagues like LG and VG.
I myself liked the legend card system better, but I understand why it was changed. I never had to boost or cheat to get mine, but it made it so that weaker players had trouble getting it, which made sense to me since if you play like a jacka** and quit games constantly you would have terrible grades and never improve your player.
This new system is also why most of the drop in 6v6 games you play end up being 6v2 by the end of the game, theres no incentive to stay in the game, or punishment for leaving.
I think the reason a lot of guys don't like the old system isn't because of the amount of games you need to play, but the amount of skill needed to keep your grades up.
It is good for when your buddies get the game late in the year though, they aren't being handicapped by a terrible player when they are already terrible at the game.

There was little skill involved. A+'s were given out so amazingly easy, and one game of A+'s cancelled out the next two games where you quit, so I don't think that arguement is very strong.
Given out easily if you're good, you were bragging in your last post about how your club wouldn't have enough room for all your banners, so you're obviously not the type of player I'm talking about here.
A few turnovers/bad passes and your A+ for team play was gone, don't get at least 2 points and no A+ for offense. Like I said, for good players you didn't need to boost or cheat to get it, I know plenty of the average players on my club at the time that took an extra 50 to 75 games to get their A- overall for legend 3 and they weren't even that bad at the game.
So like I said, for players that aren't very skilled it was a major grind just to keep grades up. It wasn't the games played that was hard, it was grades.

Yes this is basically what I was going to respond but you beat me to it. As a responsible defensemen I was always struggling to get that A- in teamplay.

1) I don't think the class system inherently makes this true... for one, not everyone cared about grades, I certainly recall a lot more griefing in the game under the card system. TBH I am not sure I care about punishment for quitting early. Lots of times I stayed in terrible games just to get my grades... but is that necessarily a good thing? I play videogames to have fun. If my drop-in team (or the opposition) is filled with a bunch of griefing morons, I dont want to be punished for that by having to stay in to get a stupid grade. Conversely, I am happy for our club to take a win because we are beating the other team so badly they quit.
If you want to punish anyone, punish the people who play like idiots. And provide more in game and in-practice coaching and teaching for people who are genuinely trying.
For another, the unlockables they replaced the boosts with just weren't meaningful enough for some people, which btw I totally understand. But that isn't a problem intrinsic to the class system.
2) I wasn't the best out there, but I wasn't terrible either. For me, and many others, what I hated was always that slog I had to endure to get my teamplay to A- after I already had the required number of games for Legend 3 .

The bolded was us. We were skilled, we won enough to get up Division 1 or 2, but then we ran into guys who did nothing but play the game all day and we would get destroyed. It def took longer to get L3. Im a hardcore player, when we sit down we go all bloody night...just once or twice a week because of other obligations. I think that having both systems would be great TBH, the cookie cutters for the Hardcore league players, and then the progressive system for the regular guys who just play EA league games and weekly playoffs
Was it a lot of the league players that pushed for the preset builds because I know a lot of them that preferred the grind/progression/customization.
I'd say the LG community was pretty split. Using leagues as an excuse to cry seems like a popular tatic on these boards though.
so is the "LG McDonald" or whatever he is not a Gamechanger? is he not either running that website / league or a manager of it?
did I not see "Ben" / EA Dev not comment on one of Venom's posts where the discussion was surrounding whether or not a goal or a game or whatever in LG would or wouldn't count?
this isn't some "grand conspiracy" here.
it appears to me that the people that run that league or site are on the Gamechanger board and it sure looked to me that one EA Dev is in that league.
having players overalls "the same" and having EA dictate their version of parity sure seems to line up with the needs of a 3rd party league / website.
and like Kory said - it's simply an area of preference.
I am not saying you guys are wrong for your opinions on the matter - I am simply expressing my opinion that compared to years past, EASHL is very bland. many many many others agree with me.
the way it is now, absolutely fits the needs of a 3rd party "league" gaming website and if that is the route EA goes, that's the route they go.

I've played full-time defense since 09 and never had a problem with grades lol...
OK so you played for 4 years before I even started. And you were better than me when I played 13/14 - do you want a cookie? Jesus. I found that going for hits all the time which gives you good team play can also back fire and is not great defense. But again, I have already admitted I wasnt the best at this game. I kinda fumbled my way through the first couple years (13/14)

Stating you prefer builds over grinding isn't 'crying' - it's just a preference and should be taken as such.
I was referencing the "e-athletes" and all of the other garbage that gets mindlessly tossed around when people are attacking people like me who like the class system. Considering I didn't quote anything, you have no idea what I'm referencing. Since you don't know what I'm referencing, you can only make an assumption. When you make assumptions, well...you know where this is going right? You are a mod? Mods on this forum are taught to make assumptions than accuse off of those mere assumptions in order to moderate the forums? Hmmm. Think EA needs to invest in some training.
So, becuase the "leader" of the LG is a gamechanger, that means all 3000+ people on the website mindlessly follow him? You blame the whole community, even though the whole community wasn't on board. There's been many discussionos on LG over this topic, but you wouldn't know, because you're not a member, and you sit on the outside an make false assumptions.
Man, reading is hard for so many member on these boards
1. "So, becuase the "leader" of the LG is a gamechanger, that means all 3000+ people on the website mindlessly follow him"
Not sure what the relevance of this point is.... what difference does it make what the grand 3000 think. He is the Gamechanger, sitting there on the board and he is going to give input with regards to his position and what can help him achieve his goals. Not that complicated really.
2. "You blame the whole community, even though the whole community wasn't on board. "
What difference does it make who I blame? EA is making the game. Not you. Not me. Not "LGMacdonald". You don't like that fact that I point out that pre-set builds make managing and running a 3rd party league site easier or more desirable, tough.
3. "There's been many discussionos on LG over this topic, but you wouldn't know, because you're not a member, and you sit on the outside an make false assumptions"
Nor do I care to be a member of the 3000 strong split across multiple consoles.
Preset builds were coming whether there were gamechangers or not lol. Remember that little survey that went out years ago about progression or balance? Yeah..

it makes LG great and easy to manage. for that it's wonderful. for Christmas kids, it's wonderful.
but there are quite a number of us that liked it the way it was years ago. a lot of us.
just give a lobby system with preset builds to the LG guys. i cannot fathom this part of the project takes too many cycles.
