Ya put the cards back in for drop ins, all the heroes and selfish players can create their Danny Devito and dangle themselves till they puke, just don't bring it back for club.
it's funny to me how EA took surveys and also has internal data on how many people play what game modes, prefer what, etc... but people in here insist that they have a better idea of what makes up "the majority"...
the majority of people wanted a class based system - it's an objective fact. You can tell yourself all you want that "the majority" preferred the old attribute system, but then you're just lying to yourself. you don't get to make up facts... well maybe if you're the president, but that's not a conversation for this thread.

I'd love for EA to do a blind test where you all play with a player and aren't told what build it is, and after 5 games with that player you have to guess what build it was.
I guarantee almost everyone who is so into "customization" would massively fail that test. They'd have no idea.

That survey did not ask if people wanted a "class based system". It asked if people would prefer an MMO/RPG style where the more you play the more points you unlock and get to use on your player, or a MOBA/Esport style where it is an even playing field and there are no 'artificial advantages' gained, where the natural game skill you've learned by playing is the largest deciding factor.
MOBA/Esport was the more popular choice. There was nothing about preset builds or class based.
As long as it was balanced well (and better than what old gen was), and all the attributes were important so that people couldn't just 'game the system' by completely ignoring multiple categories, I think it is safe to assume most people would prefer the ability to customize their player over bland preset builds, eh bud?

#trigglypuff is the epitome of the snowflake millennial generation.
Don't expect a fix dude. Like that troll pointed out (more/less), this game is built around casuals and VG/LG league play. It's not an RPG. Either enjoy the watered-down hockey experience that is NHL 17 or play something else.
You're kidding me right. What's your clubs name? Wanting to "customize" your player's stats shows that you're not able to hang on an even playing field. Even capping each attribute at certain levels and total capping points makes sense, but the 99 horse **** from the old days is gone for good.
Why would a troll who's hell-bent on his own argument to even bother reading or interpreting properly what other people are saying care what club I'm in? You want to look at my stats so you can come back here and stroke your ego? You think that will validate the argument of whether players should be able to customize their own players attributes or not?
This debate has come back in soooo many threads. So for everyone stating that most people want it one way over the other for this reason and that reason you are all wrong. It's very obvious that there are quite a few people passionate about an attribute and/or progression and the same goes for the preset builds. Due to this, IMO, they should offer both. Let the players decide. It may water down the number of guys online by dividing into 2 but at least it would appease 2 obviously passionate fan bases.
For myself I truly enjoyed the attribute system because I loved tweaking stats. If they had a better less exploitable system I would be all over that. But after having played 2 years with preset builds I would probably play both ways. Depending on the situation, who is on and what I felt like.
Bottom line is that we'be all been arguing since preset builds were introduced so I don't think there is a way to please everyone unless you offer everything. Its more game development but hell we all pay 80-90/year for this game. We deserve a great game.
Ok ok, I'd be ok with everyone being able to go +3 or -3 in every category...but please...no builds under 5"10...was so sick of playing a team of Danny Devitos every other game.
No + 3/5/7's whatsoever. Everyone gets X amount of attribute points to put into whatever categories they want. If people want to build 5'6 speedy little danglers then others can build 6'6 big and strong players to crush and potentially cause injuries to them. Then it would be up to EA to design a system that would restrict people from building a player that can essentially have ALL those attributes.
I wish I good thumbs up this. I think the old system was flawed. A new system built from the ground up should include the ability for EA to 'tune' the system if attribute exploits are found. Also as mentioned if I want a Johnny Gaudreau player I should be allowed to play with him...and if I get steam railed by a Komorov player I should be injured. Small speedy players are easier to knock off the puck when you connect and in the corners. Big players should in general not be able to turn and and move as quickly. Just like in real life. If done properly small players will not dangle end to end as often.
I was a massive fan of Ea Sports NHL and had been playing the game since 2008 now I have not purchased the game since NHL 15. Why? Due to the fact people **** about the fact that on EASHL the majority of players could not get Legend 3.
THIS GAME ABSOLUTELY 100% NEEDS TO BRING BACK LEGEND 3
This archetype **** is stupid no one player in the NHL is the same
Bring back customisation I want to build my own player like I used to be able to. Let me create a Center a LW a RW a Defensive player and a Goalie. MOST OF ALL LET ME DECIDE WHICH STATS I WANT TO PUT ON MY OWN CHARACTER THAT I PLAY WITH. then let me choose his height and weight and how he looks.
good players like myself who reached (without boosting i may add) Legend 3 have lost out on these past couple of years due to people who cant play the game well the fun is out of the game now, I feel like I'm an AI player whenever I had the chance to play.
ALSO bring back the +1 +3 +5 boosts you used to have that you got for playing well you have ruined this fantastic game that once was my favourite game for 3 years running now I don't even buy this ****.
Just please please bring back Legend 3 and all of the customisation basically bring back NHL 14 with better graphics some game play tweaks updated rosters and better physics maybe try frostbite like FIFA and Battlefield? I Understand you have a small dev team but surely you must read that the majority of players no longer enjoy this game because of how you made the most played game mode.

I just hate this post because you didn't include separation from Left Defense and Right Defense hahahah...
But in all seriousness, I don't agree with you here. I believe the community is getting smaller and smaller because the game isn't fun. I'm talking core gameplay. It just really isn't fun to play...Now, I said this in a different post and I'll say it here too. You may be right about losing people due to a lack of progression, but you may not be as well. I honestly believe if the core gameplay was solid, nobody would refrain from buying because you can't edit your build. If a game is fun, a game is fun. Overwatch does great with only cosmetic progression, why? The core gameplay is so solid. Rocket league does well with only cosmetic progression, why? The core gameplay is so solid.
Just my two cents.
While I agree with you on the core gameplay. It needs to be fixed and NHL is getting stale. We have a new gen and we haven't had anything really new and exciting in years. As for overwatch and rocket league, let's have this discussion again in 10 years when they release a new version every year. The only way they don't get stale is to innovate which the NHL franchise is not.
While i havent played it a ton i did like the be a pro system for player progression. Maybe bring this back for club/drop in but keep the preset build system for competitive gameplay using lobbies or something.
This would not split the community and would appease everyone looking for player progression, which is most people. Its just that we also want balance. Hopefully EA can figure out a way for us to have our cake and eat it too.
Keep the club progression too, this helps keep teams from building new clubs to scrub hunt.

This can be accomplished with cosmetic progression systems, as evidenced by plenty of other games, as long as the gameplay is stellar (which this game isn't there yet).
This was just the first year for the cosmetic progression in NHL and isn't quite good enough. They have a good thing going with the celebrations but no one gives a sheet about unlocking a new bauer helmet at level 40..
If they can think of better things to add, things that have more prestige to them than some random new stock stick ie. even more celebrations, unique mannerisms for after whistle play which could be like little player taunts or ability to tap your teammates after a good play or save, individual player goal songs, individual player strobe lights after a goal, no helmet, santa toque, etc. people eat that sheet up all day.
That takes care of people need for a carrot. Then just give us a new attribute system that is fair for everybody and has no progression, it's a win win.
if what you want is "be a pro online", then maybe you should have a game mode for that.
This is exactly what I was thinking. A mode like this would be greatfor people who want the progression, while keeping eashl like it is now for competitive play.

Of all the issues you could have come up with....the terrible TPS, the imbalance between offense and defense, clunky goaltending, you decided to come up with lack of grinding for cards / rpg mechanic in a competitive sports game as your main reason for quitting?
"Small Attribute Changes- While the new player classes create an even playing field, it still **** just being stuck and not progressing. It would be nice if you were able to progress pretty much from an 84-89. While the difference is not a game changer, hardcore fans can easily tell when playing with a player between those attributes. This is just an incentive for players to keep playing, and can really only benefit EA without hurting them."

face it.
you guys are just in the minority at this point with the preset classes.
So wait. let me get this straight.

The hardcore fans need an attribute system to keep playing.
The same hardcore fans who maxed out their legend cards in the first week or two the game came out.
#2
The attributes didnt change much.
But it was easy to tell who had legend 3.
