The only people that want legend 3 are the cheese balls that think they are pro because they nail a cheesy shot from the slot after failing miserably 10 times , but when they hit that **** , they are the best around... People that don't want the challenge, or to out skill their opponents, or out strategize. Those straight cherry picking punks.
Preset classes make you actually play as a team, and want to cycle to right person, or actually play hockey , not just an EA cheese fest see who can't walk in past the blue line and slot snip the most ... People who can't understand that are probably just riff Raff trash
If you think there is no point playing because you can't progress to pick on low levels , you are trash, as someone said this isn't an RPG like that... Go play league play if you think there is no point or seriously take your cheesy **** and go play baseball , make a slugger and enjoy.
Yes, everyone who wants control of their eashl player are all "scrubs trash and cheeseballs" or whatever.

lol
Solid sweeping swing there.
If you want control ask ea to get rid of automation, not make it so you can create the ultimate cheese machine ... Go back to cherry picking and trying to make your cheese shots, go to OTP, put all the high ranked players on your line and get out of eashl.
Yeah, it's a video game. I don't see what's wrong with wanting full customization over your player; attributes and all. That was what was fun about last-gen NHL. Reaching Legend 3, and messing around with your player. Trying to find the right build, the right size for your player, etc. etc.

I mean, you do the same thing the other way with your "e-athlete" thing lol...Don't throw bricks from a glass house.
And his comment qualifies for the e-athlete moniker.
"Small Attribute Changes- While the new player classes create an even playing field, it still **** just being stuck and not progressing. It would be nice if you were able to progress pretty much from an 84-89. While the difference is not a game changer, hardcore fans can easily tell when playing with a player between those attributes. This is just an incentive for players to keep playing, and can really only benefit EA without hurting them."

The hardcore fans need an attribute system to keep playing.
The same hardcore fans who maxed out their legend cards in the first week or two the game came out.

The attributes didnt change much.
But it was easy to tell who had legend 3.
Not contradictory at all....
Love love love this post. Again, I am 100% in support of the MOBA style system, but I've also been trying to be nicer and listen to the other side to find a compromise that'd work. My problem with cosmetic progression systems is that you'll run out of stuff to do without making the playing surface look like an open community skate. Nobody wants to see NHL 10/11 equipment again, do we?
I personally like the direction they are going with unlockables. it probably takes longer to unlock all sort of stuff in arena mode than it did unlocking attributes, offers a level of non-gameplay impacting customization and gives bonus perks to play beyond the great gameplay (well maybe not today but hopefully when they get back to nhl 10 level of gameplay) .
I think you have to seperate the "unlockables" such as legend cards from the "ability points / customization of character abilities" arguments.
If you MUST have flexible attributes, why do you need to unlock them over time and create unfairness?
You can have a card system independant from the attributes system. The reality is a lot of people want the unfair advantage. Im a hardcore gamer and each year I would play a lot at release and I would win tons of games by crushing opponents who had like half my speed. This would last a few weeks until people caught up. Why do we need those few weeks of unfair play level? we dont. The attributes in my opinion led to imbalances but this is debatable. I wouldnt be so against them if everyone had them from the getgo. But thats not what people want. it also would do nothing about giving incentive to play beyond the gameplay itself.
I'm not saying I don't like the unlockables right now, but in terms of unlocking stuff for your player, they can only add so much before we start having racecar and spider helmets again which was simply an abomination...
If they can keep chugging arena stuff out, I'd be more than happy with that, as I think that is pretty sweet. It'd be nice if there were some more ice surface customiations like wording right inside the bluelines or something. Also, behind the net wording could be cool too.
I could go on forever about jersey customization. Text logos diagonally/arch would be a welcomed addition as well. Also front shoulder numbers, middle chest numbers (like under an arche text) would also be very cool. I still think we need more jersey templates (and fix pre-exisitng templates with more color zones, and **** add the blackhawks' sock design if you're going to have the jersey...DUH) to have even more jersey variety in the EASHL.
And I absolutely agree with the character unbalance. Those first couple of weeks are so stupid, and people that get the game around the holiday's need to get beatdown for their first month due to their characternot skill? That's not a good way to attact new people to the game, and if they are new the series, you're thumb skills should be able to handle them pretty well...
I was pretty shocked at the depth of the customization they added this year all at once out of the blue. Now they have a system in place so they can tweak it a bit and they have a great bulk of customization elements which they can expand on.
As for the spider helmets and **** like that....im torn now. I used to hate it but the game was different back then. I think that today, if they did this, it could be cooler if they opt to go a real custom eashl experience. I still think they could and should drop the NHL branding out of EASHL and just make it full custom. Its more like a beer hockey league than a real NHL league. I think you can simulate real nhl in other modes with real players but in this mode, everything is a custom experience. So perhaps they could add funky and cool stuff. But im still not 100% sure on it. I think they have tons of room to add to arena and uniform customization though.
I also feel like they need to work more on the player level perks and rewards. The icons you get for leveling right now are not that great. They could also add cool fonts for team name or player names for players or teams who make it to XX top positions or who win the playoffs etc.
Look at games like overwatch. its repetitive and one of the only perk you get for levelling is that your nameplate gradually change to add more stars and eventually changes from bronze to silver and I assume from silver to gold (havent seen someone that high yet). Similar story in diablo 3.
I think thats pretty cool and makes it fun to reach higher levels.
I had a big thread about how NHL 10's 'clown gear' was ahead of its time on the old forums.
Create a crate and drop system with this kind of stuff and a market where people can trade/buy/sell their equipment items, people eat that sheet up. Suddenly EASHL generates constant revenue just like HUT.
Purists don't like it at first, but it doesn't take long for them to get used to it and actually start liking it. Just look at csgo.
I tend to agree but im still torn.
Most games that uses those system do well. On the flip side, most games that use that system are already completely made up and not based on any specific reality / movie. Having flaming stick or lazer skate trail might sell like candies in EASHL but would it ruin the look of the game too much seeing as its meant to look like real hockey?
If its just logos and mask / pads special paintings then perhaps thats good without crossing the line. Im not too sure. Id almost have to see it to decide. It could either be groundbreaking cool or a huge turn off.
Thats the gamble with going in somewhat uncharted territory.

I don't think you'd want to take it as far as having actual flames coming off your skates or stick or any kind of skate trail. That is certainly too far.
If it was just limited to equipment skins I think it could stay under that absurdity threshold. So instead of having flames coming off your helmet, it just has a flame paint job.
I think EASHL as a game mode is already inherently past the point of 'being realistic'. And with the current customization players/teams can already look like complete clowns with horrific jersey colours and tape/skate colours.
Whats it matter if some dude unlocked/bought a pair of golden gloves?
Again, the purists would initially call foul, just like you saw with the celebrations, but would shortly get used to it since it has no effect on gameplay.
There is a river of constant money ready to be undammed if they do something like this correctly, eh bud?

Man, I have been saying this for a few years now. Just boatloads of goofy stuff for players to unlock/buy. Why not, does not affect game play. Make OTP/EASHL more arcadey(aesthetically). EA gave us a lot of crazy hairstyles this year, I would like to see a "No Helmet" option to flaunt that flow all game.
Cowboy hats, motorcycle helmets, tutu's, who cares.
Taunting after whistles
keep gameplay realistic and just put crazy stuff in there to customize
Personally how anyone thinks this game the way it is has any longevity is beyond me..every game every class feels the exact same..I snipe bar down with grinder and I miss wide open nets with sniper all the same speed it's so boring ..and ripping people for using "cheesy" builds is just dumb the reason y there cheesy is because 90% of the attributes are broken and do nothing blame ea for that...In saying this the "grind" is a valid point for ppl without the time to do it so like stated very easy fix ditch the useless otp and have preset and custom eashl and hope ea actually fixes the attributes and stops the 99 speed cheese

This is my problem this the class-based system as well. There's such a lack of variation with what each class can do and it does lead to a boring product. If my sniper can only shoot marginally better than a powerforward, why the heck would I use the small build at risk for injury!? If my dangler can't do any extra dekes than an enforcer, than why the heck is the dangler useful!? Basically, this game tried to bring in a MOBA style class system, but forgot that MOBA characters actually play specific roles because they CAN'T DO what other classes CAN do.
They totally messed up a system that really could've added a strategic level to the game. All they've done is given the people who needs a 15 better overall player to win a game (with their “unique” build) more ammo to switch back to the carrot-on-a-stick system because they actually think classes (not the mediocre gameplay) is the main culprit behind low player numbers...
Agreed. Enforcer shouldn't be able to pull off at least 90% of his dekes. Shots should be powerful but have bad aim. Same for passes.
The other classes need a rebalance as well. Severe lack of variety in their skill set.
I definitely preferred the old way better. I liked the customization and I liked the grind as well. I enjoyed the reward to time invested being a better skater.
I don't by the crap excuses about 99 speed or super builds. A) those issues are very exaggerated and could be resolved with better game design.
Speaking of, there were certainly a lot of issues under the old system that could be fixed by better game design. I'm not even speaking of way more work to fix it, just making better choices. Things to mitigate stacking on a few offensive and physical stats and ignoring others. If all stats were in one category and you had to choose between making a speedy skater or a rocket shot, it would have helped. Higher penalty increases to max out a stat would have also done great. Explaining the attributes properly and their effects, as well as making sure every attribute you could customize actually worked would also fix a lot of people's problems.
On and on people lie about rookie skaters having to be beat up by legend 3 teams like matchmaking didn't exist. (That is a matchmaking issue after all, not a custom attributes/grind issue). If you were a team of legend 3 getting matched up against a bunch of rookies, then you sucked and no attribute advantage would help. Unless of course you just made a new team...
And speaking of that, I really do like the club unlocks. I enjoy the arena stuff, even though the player unlocks bore me. Here is an interesting question though. What's EA's plan next year? We all know things don't get improved two years in a row. How are you all going to feel going from an NHL stadium with flashing lights, beautiful colors, thousands of fans, lightning shooting off in the rafters and smoke blowing out of your stanchions to playing in front of your moms in a dead quiet drab arena and only the same improvements to unlock you had this year.
I want the grind back, and no, I didn't cheat to unlock legend three in the first week. I played every game and wouldn't unlock l3 until January. During the grind I'd play every night, several games a night. Afterwards, id play less, take nights off, much like I've played all year in NHL 17. That carrot I. The stick certainly made me want to play more.
I want the customization back, and no, I didn't make a guy with 99 speed. I didn't have a 5'5" grinder or playmaker. I liked that other people did though, because I enjoyed shutting them down. The speed differences made the game more exciting in my opinion.
As for the survey people keep referencing, it was poorly worded. The specific question relating to this asked if we wanted the game to be more skill based. I answered yes thinking they were talking about random fluky stuff like stick breaks and dumb puck bounces. It never asked if we wanted a class based system. That would have been an emphatic no.
The mode started as a sports RPG and that wa a brilliant and revolutionary. Now the mode is stale and boring. I ply here and there to get my video game hockey fix, but I could not by NHl 18 at this point and be fine. My whole enthusiasm for the game has waned, poor quality is a large part of that. Lack of interest in the classes is another.

And his comment qualifies for the e-athlete moniker.
Just sayin.
Bwahahaha! I can see it now. Just like in Counter Strike back in the day. Players tagging topless chicks on the boards hehehe.

We just need one build.
Uh, no. Missing a medium and a skinny
