Why Did They remove the Ability to Dangle?

No, holding it backhand or pulling it all the way back on forehand is not dangleing.

I'm really curious as to why they removed it ? Makes playing forward a bit dry.

I was reading some posts in another thread when a forum member made mention of this subject and I thought I would ask.

Replies

  • simple, they dumbed down the game for the casuals. i remember doing the patrick kane shootout move back in 12', now if you try that your guy pivots 90 degrees once you put on the breaks and like you said you can't really dangle so it looks like poop.
  • Try passing.
  • Try passing.

Lol. How does that relate to my topic?

    Try reading ?

I assume that "dangling" was cut down in an effort to make the game more realistic, as "dangles" just don't happen that often (in fact, dekeing is still far to prevalent in this game as compared to the actual NHL.). I imagine the "try passing" comment is said to implore you to try playing the game as it is actually played in the NHL, as opposed to the arcade game shenanigans that "dangling" represents.

I knew the motivation for his comment, I was trying to bait him into declaring that motivation. Was going to then rip apart his wrong assumption of thinking I'm a selfish player.

Also, your comment comparing what people do in NHL 17 to the actual NHL is a dangerously foolish one.

I don't see nothing foolish about his point.
    Can you elaborate?

Are you one of those 3 guys with 6 accounts that wanna go back to the "Nhl12 glory days"?

You don't see the potential foolishness of comparing what your average joe does in a video game to what talented trained athletes do for a profession?

I am one man , with one account and NHL 12 was trash.
  • I don't understand why they changed the skill stick on next gen. It was very good on old gen, now they replaced it with these awful auto dekes.
  • Your average joe isn't dangling anyone but the rookie difficulty cpu.
  • I have a feeling 5 years from now, we won't be talking about the "glory days" of NHL 15,16, and 17. Old gen wasn't perfect but it did things far better than this gen. Controllers worked, things were simple. The game was fun, popular, and won awards.

Why stray from a formula that was clearly working pretty well?

So Billy can play with the big boys. So Billy can dangle easily instead of learning how to dangle like the big boys do. All about catering to the casual. Sucks but that's the truth.

This auto deking is absolute trash, though. They need to bring back the old skill stick where you aren't deking unless you're holding a bumper to activate it. Can't tell you how many times I've been sucked into a stupid toe-drag that I didn't want to do b/c that's the simple **** they added to the game. I'm not calling for the crazy dekes, even though they were hard to pull off and took time and practice to master, but I think they need to add a skill stick that is better than the garbage now.

For once, lets cater to the hard cores instead of Billy.... Please! (And if you don't agree with me, then you're just another Billy). So to any "hard-core" who decides to quote me and tell me they like the new system, kindly go back to the closet and give yourself a few more pumps. I will not believe you.

    Classy.
I was actually assuming you were referring to the game in general, not EASHL or OTP. I only play HUT in this year's game, so it's hard to be selfish when I play by myself.

They removed the ridiculousness to make the game more realistic.

Arguments that all boil down to "well the [skating engine, passing, shooting, etc.] in this game is crap and unrealistic already so why make the deking realistic" are non-starters. If realism isn't relevant, then the players may as well fly and carry guns and shoot each other. The point is to make the game as realistic as possible. Failure to achieve that 100% doesn't mean the devs shouldn't even attempt to make it realistic.

You just used the word ,"dangerously" in the context of a discussion about video games. There is one foolish person here and it's not me. Don't you have some "ethics in video games journalism" posts to make somewhere?

Yes. Seems to me you're taking the term the term too literal. I was talking in the broader sense of being able to take you serious as a poster. What we write in here are our credentials.

Personally speaking , I can't take someone serious if they compare what actual nhl players do to someone who plays EA NHL 17. It's foolishness. I've seen your posts before in other threads and rather than break down why it's foolishness step by step (from your post in another thread), I was giving you a chance to take a step back and realize why I was cautioning you, not only in this thread, but future ones as well.

Seems you took what I wrote very personal and it in some way offended you. For that I apologize as I didnt mean to offend. Take care.

You are entertaining, I will give you that. You also have delusions of grandeur, but that's not uncommon on the internet. I find your fallacious statements regarding how I feel about things to be amusing. Whenever someone states their speculation of someone else's thoughts or feelings as if they are fact, you know you are dealing with a fake intellectual. Sigh. I can't take someone serious who does that. Thanks for the "chance" though slugger, you are very magnanimous. I will pass on that though. You might want to work on your reading comprehension a lil bit while your at it. As far as apologies go, you have no need to do so, as I never take anything said on the internet personally. Peace.

I don't like how's deking done right now. But I don't think it was very good in last gen.

LS should be ONLY used for analog 1:1 stick movement. For offence and defense.

Anything above that should be made using modifiers. Any super fancy move should be successful based on player attributes.

Defensive stick agility should be based on player attributes too.

    Edit:
Wow, "a.na.log" seems to be forbidden word here. That says something lol
  • I still throw in NHL 14 on my PS4 and throw some nasty behind the back/one handed dekes. Nothing is better than now especially going east to west across the O zone and doing a one hand jump to the left. I miss that!

Ive read they did it to make it more realistic, but i see videos weekly of people doing dirty nasty dekes in every level of hockey.
