Can a VPN stop IP booting?

For those who dont know what a VPN is its a program that makes your IP address anonymous, so if I use one will it stop people from IP booting me due to my IP address being a fake one ?

If you can mask/hide your IP then they won't be able to IP boot you. If they can't see it, they can't flood it.

that's one way. There's several "hide my IP" hits on google. Only thing is, it might not be worth the time, effort and possibly money to set it up, I'd imagine that it would introduce lag.
