Well considering the poke check **** in this game I think he did a pretty good job eh bud?
That's just the thing, knowing that the poke checking is horrible (at best) in this game, why even try to make a play like that?
For the Thousandth time: defense is about CONTAINING the attack, not COUNTERING. He tried to be a Hero, thinking he could strip the puck away and counter attack in one fell swoop. He failed.
I'd say lesson learned, but he probably learned nothing... Like 98% of the people that see this play and blame the game instead of the user for a boneheaded decision.
Not necessarily. There are several different strategies when playing defence. Some like to "contain" the attack and some like to play aggressive and to also "counter" it. It depends on the team and players I'm playing against and with but in general I like to play aggressive D to try to not allow the attack space and time to shoot and set up plays. Also to counter attack to keep them on the defensive as I have found the best strategy when playing this game throughout the years is to be aggressive and always keep the opposing team on the defensive.
Furthermore, when my team gains possession of the puck I almost immediately switch to offensive mode as I believe in a 5 player offence and a 5 player defence.
@Leckaroo Yes he missed it, but why?
He missed it by a fraction of an inch, and that is out of the control of the player.
I don't know, but I believe it comes from the RNG, they have put into play, to keep us from being like a rocket league car, like B-Bunny stated.
This is where I think they are going in the wrong direction.
We (or at least I), don't want RNG in play on pokes, bodychecks and so on.
To have that on shots, though, is a different story.
That would resolve the ever-present glitch goals.
I think the most important question here, is how the fact that pokes like OP put an example of in this thread, are driving paying customers away or making them fans of the game.
At least, that is the language, we as players, need to get across to the suits.
And if anyone was in doubt, I think this kind of RNG on checks (or pokes), are totally devastating to the customer base.
I need a turbo boost, ideally a plus 15 backward boost.
Please EA, looking for my stick to light on fire after 5 consecutive successful poke checks as well.
This game is just sooooo boring, spice it up a bit.
I'd like a "be a pro ice girl" with a +15 shovel boost as well.

Turn it around, would anyone feel bad if that poke made it?
I know I wouldn't, if I was going in on offence like that.
But it feels very unlogical that this poke doesn't do any harm.
Exactly!!!
Good to see this topic is still generating attention. Clearly this is something EA needs to address.

Lmao, show me a clip of Duncan Keith making stick on stick/stick on puck contact and the puck carrier keeps skating with the puck in the NHL I will pay you 10$.
The point of this clip was to highlight the fact, the defensive stick is non existent. Players auto deking and in this case just skating up the ice and they dont have to worry about the opponent. Thats not hockey. EA is trying to make this game fun by doing this. It does the complete opposite.
Its pretty pathetic and takes away any fun, this game can deliver. I have always had this issue with this game. This game continues to get better but for this game to get to the next level, these little things which have huge outcomes need to be addressed.
technically it wasn't a bad poke, but the physics of the game didn't even move the oppositions stick. There is much wrong with this game and the goals are just terrible. I know that there are bad goals in the NHL but come on man! Let me hold my stick out and when you stick lift it is a slashing or hooking or whatever penalty. It does get old after awhile. I went down 6000 in rank over a three game losing streak in competitive seasons. I can't even imagine how in the F that happened! ****?
This game is so fvcking broken right now, and it is MORE so broken when you try to play it online with ANY form of latency. This is the way it has been ever since they went to the PS4/One, though it was kind of shady before that on old-gen. It just wasn't quite as noticeable then. Before TPS is was BARELY a thing. You were rewarded for skill and penalized for being a dvmba55...just like it is supposed to be.
So since it's impossible to eliminate all latency online they ought to be making a game that doesn't struggle under normal online conditions. I honestly hope they don't make a game for 18. At least that way the temptation to give them another chance won't be there if they don't make a game.
I think the mistake commonly made around here is thinking EA cares about making this game great. They are likely handed a small budget, a release schedule, etc and basically no real accountability for making a great game. Just keep this small but likely consistent cash cow rolling in. Release a full priced game every September, follow that up with limited patches a couple of times a year (unless there is something truly game breaking). Rinse and repeat.
So they constantly take two steps forward but also two steps back and essentially stay the same and it's been that way for a long time. Every year I find myself saying "oh this new {whatever} is nice, oh god that old {whatever} is still horrible, oh **** now this {whatever} is garbage".
Yes if you compare this game to 10-20 years ago, it's changed a lot. Overall it's mostly better. So it only took 15 years of development, 15 new versions of games, 15 years of the same people paying full price, every year ...15 times. To do what most game developers do in 1 or 2 releases.
This is why most EA sports fans are continuously frustrated. This is why i only buy fifa/madden/golf every so often. I'm forced to keep buying NHL because I play that online and everyone moves to the new game every year.
Can someone explain how the passing works on this Game? I have been playing this game all my life, and I'm 44, so since Sega and 94 I have always played hockey games, and this one just has me wanting to hang up the skates. I have spent hundreds on players, hundreds of hours of practice, and I still can't keep passes from going directly to the opposition, which leads to being scored on and the game taking over and just making it ridiculously difficult to come back. I also can't seem to pick off the puck anymore, but let me get the puck for one second and it's in the other players pocket. I realize there must be something I'm doing wrong there, but there is no excuse for the passing, I just can't for the life of me figure out what is going on there?

Turn off Pass Aim Assist. It's in the Customize Options, Controller Setting. It's set to 100% pass aim assist by default, I would recommend you try 50% or 30%. I myself have had it at 10% all year and I rarely have problems with passes not going where I aim them.

Thank you sir, I will try that, he'll I will try anything at this point. I did turn it down to 70 as someone else had suggested, but that didn't work.

I found that even at 50%, the game still had too much control over where I was aiming my passes. 25% started to make things better for me but I went down to 10% shortly thereafter and I've never looked back. BTW, I'm 44 as well, so I feel ya buddy!

I hope so.
Weren't you the same guy laughing that the Oilers got slammed by the Ducks? What happened? Where are they? Golfing?
Their backwards skating turbo wasn't working.
