Arena customization in franchise mode

Does anyone know why this option i greyed out? And how can it be unlocked?

  • Off season?
  • I tried that, still greyed out. Kinda weird.
  • I've been wondering this myself. Is there no way to edit a current NHL team's arena while in Franchise Mode?
  • Anyone found an answer for this?

This is from the official NHL 17 blog:

"ARENA CUSTOMIZATION – As you progress through Franchise Mode you’ll be given the option to improve your stadium through Arena Customization. From here you will be able to improve everything from the architectural design of your stadium to the in-arena presentation of music, special effects, scoreboard, and lighting."

So, you maybe have to play several years first? I played one season with the Oilers, and wasn't able to customize anything. Even with my relocated team the option was greyed out.

There may be a setting before you start up your franchise... read stuff carefully before starting
  • I haven't seen any such setting and am still wondering about this myself. Someone must have the answer for this...
  • I have it with a relocated team, but for an actual NHL team, nothing yet. Might hop on my Red Wings franchise later (I didn't pick Detroit, but got fired from my last team: Columbus) and see if I can get it to work at all.

I moved the Canes to Hartford and after the relocating process was done, I wasn't able to change anything on my arena, even in the offseason. I'm not on twitter, but maybe someone could ask a producer how to unlock this option?
  • Wonder if something is broke
  • I tweeted to the nhl 17 tweeter profile and they haven't answered me but they will answer other tweets... Since no one can find an answer I'm wondering if they know its broken but won't admit it.

    Wouldn't be suprised
  • Man I can't believe no one can answer this and I have contacted EA through twitter and facebook with no response. Anyone know any other devs on twitter that I can try contacting?
  • I just contacted them via Facebook as well. We'll see if they respond.
  • Anyone have an answer yet??
  • They never responded to me so I have no clue.

It's only available on created teams. You can't alter a current (existing) NHL team arena due to licensing. I would assume it has to do with the NHL teams signing on for authenticity and not for people to change their arena. Same goes with building a new arena in current NHL cities, you can't do it because there is an existing arena that is licensed.

Hope that clears it up for you. It isn't ideal but it's not EA, it's the NHL teams.

That makea sense, but what about the quoted part in post No.5, which I took from here, btw: https://www.easports.com/nhl/news/2016/nhl-17-gameplay-series-franchise-mode

There's not a word about created teams.

I would guess that's a mistake on whomever wrote it. That sounds more like what EASHL offers with the customization. I can say with a certainty that you can't change any NHL arenas due to licensing.

Okay, thanks! Would be cool if we could at least change the goal songs of those teams that don't have their authentic songs... That shouldn't be a licensing thing, I'd say.

This does not make sense when yo decide to relocate a team. EA led us to believe that when you relocate a team, YOU decide on the arena customization.
