Was sick today so I worked the market non stop but will loading my team up with Crosby, Zetterberg, Tavares, etc. give me any advantage over a player with a worse team.
There is going to be all sorts of responses regarding your question...and since its all just difference in opinions without physical proof I'll off what my years of HUT play has taught me.
Stars can be bought with cash but skill cant. Stacking your team is only going to get you so far, but you'll always run into those people who are just better at the game...will beat you with lesser stacked teams...etc.
Ive played with scrub teams and I've played with stacked teams, it depends on your opponent, your connection, and your personal skill.
I'd stack it...it is Hockey ULTIMATE Team...what else would you do?
I will say that I am a full-on scrub HUT player. I do not spend anything on the game mode and still achieve an OK amount of success, as long as the connection quality doesn't deal me with some "fat man lag" too much. It's like the guy up there^^^^ said, "Stars can be bought with cash, but skill can't" and that is true. I've been handled by other scrub teams and then totally destroyed stacked teams on a small occasion.
If you don't mind throwing piles of money into EA's wallet for virtual cards that will be pretty irrelevant in less than a year then that helps your team rating out a little I guess. You have to decide if the cash risk is worth the limited-time reward. I personally say it isn't, but I was never much of a card trader as a kid either.
A better skilled players will always win with lower rated players against a less skilled players despite Crosby, Ovechkin etc.
On the other hand these higher rated players give you a small advantage, mainly because of the better shooting accuracy and dynamic. I played almost 2000 games last year and when I needed to score, usually I had my best chances with my higher rated players (e.g. MOV Seguin, MOV Stamkos, MOV Crosby).
So when you play in Division 7-10 and play against someone on your level, these higher rated players will give you an advantage. However, when you play in Division 1-4 individual skill will usually win. There are of course a very few games on cold streaks, bad connections, mystery game balancing issues with unbeatable goalies etc. where you might can steal a win but at least in 9 of 10 case you`ll loose.
I had a ton of time today so I just worked the market. Picking up Crosby was huge. Bought for 300k and sold for 460k
told you that he would sell for at least 450K ... nice profit right there
If you have time to throw together a quick "play the market" guide that isn't some chud youtube video chock full of dubstep and accents, I would greatly appreciate it. I think I am on the right path, but always seem to flip for less money than should be. Part of that I think, is because the Market Value of all cards isn't what it was last year, or even yesterday. It's interesting this year.
Thanks ESPO. Even if you don't have time.
I appreciate reading what's been typed already.
Chris.

I can throw a written guide or set of rules I follow together sometime tonight.
I'm starting to think not at all. I play mostly offline at the moment, trying to do draft champions to get the 92 malhotra card. But ill jump online occasionally and play a couple. Ive spent 90% of my time on the AH like prior years, hustling the cards, looking for deal to make pucks to get my hands on some higher players. oh i got them all right, but theyre doing absolutely nothing for me, nothing at all! i bought one of those world cup collectables, traded it in and got 93 bure. big buff is just as fast as him.
played a dozen or so games online, my team with players 79-83 play better then my team stacked with stars. im winning games versus much better skilled players with better teams and losing to guys who i swear are playing with one hand and players no higher then 83. we've seen the fluctuations in past years, but this is just out of control from my perspective. my guys 5'10 180lbs with a skate of ie 92 should be able to pull away from a 6'0 205lb 85 skate? no? from blue line to blue line they kept up. games a joke. i save all the small **** clips and post them on eas twitter, never get a response. even when you try and be contructive about it. as long as the game is selling and people are buying packs to try and make their team better, they dont give a rats A$s

This is why I stopped buying packs this year.
It's like throwing money away on trash.
Last 2 years was exactly the same.
The only thing that matters is buffer bloat. Players make no difference. It's the same for games like Call of Duty. The guns make no difference. It's just your connection and buffer bloat.
If you can get your scores to be an A or A+ for all categories you will dominate any game online. It doesn't matter what game you are playing. Also your speed is pointless because all modern day connections have enough speed for online gaming.
I say stack it. My team right now consists of probably 1.5 million coins worth of players combined at the least and have yet to lose. But that doesn't mean you will always win. You can have a stacked team to the top, but still gotta have the skill behind it.

Doing that surely can't hurt your chances LOL.
