So you don't want the CPU to be able to tie up, stick lift, poke, or body check in online VS games ... just play position?
My only beef, and someone mentioned it, is that it's harder to tie up as a user whereas a CPU has a much higher "magnetic suction" ceiling and masters tie ups giving the CPU an unfair advantage.
BECAUSE THE USERS SHOULD BE FORCED TO PLAY THE GAME. Not sit back in 1-4 and let the A.I do all the work. If I wanted to play the CPU I'd play offline instead of online.
Once you find a way to control 5 players at once, you let us know.
Strangely enough, adjusting strategies is one way to 'control' your A.I. players. Your frustration seems to be that users can control their A.I. to defend your current attempts at gaining the zone: skating in with possession of the puck.
I wonder how much of an impact the crappy player switching has on people "letting the AI play for them"?
I know on the odd occasion that I do play VS I find myself switching players a lot less than I would have back in NHL 09, 10, etc. Back then I played a lot of VS and switching players was fast and intuitive. In the more recent releases it seems like a crapshoot and usually takes a few attempts to get control of the player you want. Combine this with TPS making it difficult to quickly get the player you *do* get control of skating in the direction you want and it's a pretty lethal combination. I'm not at all surprised that people are shying away from continuously switching players in the defensive zone.
I'm not saying that pre-TPS was a "golden age" or anything, just the combination of un-intuitive player switching plus TPS makes it pretty risky to be constantly switching players.

Because in those days if you didn't switch to a defender you knew that the CPU wouldn't play the game for you. And it would basically be nothing more but a pylon. So you were forced to switch to the defense and...Get this concept "PLAY THE GAME FOR YOURSELF"
EA has made the game for the casuals. You are basically playing "CPU vs CPU" with human controlled players only truly taking complete control when they are on offense.

Agreed but then you add the input controller delay crap and Player Switching has become laughable at best.
I don't know.. this whole thread made me laugh because it's exactly how I've played HuT since TPS. I find switching players to be a crap-shoot all the time and obviously position locking doesn't let you do what you want on offense. So whenever the other team is on the rush I leave it to the cpu to play D and I back-check hard with whichever fwd I'm controlling.
Does this not make sense? I mean AI controlled D-men aren't hard to get around most times but they can face the puck a lot easier than a human d-man can.
No one likes it but everyone plays it cause it is the highest percentage chance to win...Div 1 is trap and skillzone which is depressing....I don't play the trap unless my opponent does
I thought the game caters to offense, skating ability with the puck, puck protection ... and then there's outrage when the opponent plays shut down D. EA is danged if they do, danged if they don't.

Why do I get the feeling you didn't really read my post?
To reiterate, I find myself switching less because:
A: Switching to the player you want to control is seemingly random.
B: Even when you switch to the player you want by the time you can get them skating in the direction you want they're already out of position.
If player switching and responsiveness of the player when switched to were the same as years past I'd personally switch to the player closest to the play every time. But as it "functions" right now it's more risk than reward and I find myself being more selective of when I do switch.

its because people forget to let go of the stick when they switch players, if you are pressing the stick anywhere but the direction the computer player you are taking control of is going it makes them go wonky.
Which is why they should allow the user to toggle through all the skaters (except the goalie), stop with the "closest to the puck" garbage.
Secondly, I hate to say it, if you play skill zone against me I force the issue, and start ragging the puck. It's only fair.
Are you saying you can't beat the ai players? They are really easy all you have to do is hold the right stick out and let go every once in a while for a half sec and you can pretty much glide unabated around the zone for minutes on end. If they are aggressive you will draw penalties and eventually open up countless opportunities out front. Then you will turn a skill zoner into a rage quitter.
If you don't know how to beat the trap, then learn hockey. Simple as that. Spread your players out wide on the blue line (AKA, don't skate up with the puck into your own teammates), bring in one of their defenders to you, then pass to the open wing. Skate in, past the blueline, draw two more of their players, ring it around the boards to the opposite winger. Works like a charm.
Or, learn how to beat the AI if you're frustrated skating into them the entire game. It's very easy. You just don't skate into them and slow the game down a bit.
I'm sorry that you're not finding success clicking R3 the entire game. Such a shame.

were did i once say i didn't use these techniques and were once did i say i couldn't beat them? Please Show me were such was said.
All ive said is it is a simple exploit because in a game mode where you should be forced too play defense manually people are exploiting **** so they dont have to actually play defense.
Also the trap is also extremly op. you say draw a defender to you? i can show you countless videos of me standing 100% still either at the red line or just behind and the computers do not move at all.
As far as drwing the players when you enter the wing. trust me i do, but the bull part about it is even if that defender i decide to blow by on the wing is standing still he manages to mach my speed (by than i should easily be at top speed) in the matter of half a stride maybe 1 and hes able to squish me on the boards in mere seconds before i can even react to ring the puck around.
the fact that it is ignored at how overpowerd and exploited the ai is in any Vs mode is stupid. If you were a game dev would you not want to fix an exploit int he game ASAP? Would you not be ashamed/Dissapointed in the community for exploiting something and therfore wanting to weaken it so it cant be exploited? Wouldn't you want people to have fun playing your game rather than someone get frustrated running into exploits??
But no for the past couple years we have had the "skill zone" where the player just takes control of his centre, sits in the middle and does nothing while his AI does everything for him.
Now we have the trap, were again the player takes control of his centre and instead of being the 1 that should be pressuring in a 1-4 he turns it into a 0-5 by sitting on his blue line.
Again its all exploits and ruins the fun for everyone else. and by veiw of this thread alot of people agree with me.
If I'm up on the scoreboard running the trap defense, and you refuse to adapt - you deserve to lose.
see i dont mind that at all, thats situational hockey. Thats exactly how it should be played. If your up 2-0 in the third or 3-0 in the third i fully expect the trap. my frustration is with people who will play the trap from the drop of the puck.
And these same people also will never pressure you if you decide to sit in the neutral zone. (Hate the phrase "puck rag" Because IMO if your not pressuring me when im sitting still in the neutral zone thats not my fault nor is it "ragging")
Again i dont mind situational use of the trap. But at the same time its still extremly overpowerd and really needs to be looked at because the AI should not be making plays for you, you should be making the plays.

I think being able to adjust strategies is unfair. You should have to choose from 4 strategies at the start of the game and that's it. And playing a trap is unfair and shouldn't be a choice. And playing protect net isn't fair either. Basically i think the game should be 3 on 3 and a shootout after the 1st period. And you cant shoot "those" goals on a shootout either.
Thanks for listening EA. Please make this game more fair.

you know this trolling is kind of pointless.
Im not complaining about people using the strategy's given to them
im complaining about how overpowered said strategy's are
If this isnt an attempt a trolling and your actually being 100% serious. please never ever have any input on a sports game ever.
